Inset Path would be great, but I think an even better (and more Affinity-like) feature would be a live version of it that you can apply like a stroke.

That plus a somewhat less-messy Expand Stroke would fill a lot of needs, I think.

Yes, an inset path feature would be extremely nice. In fact, if you wanted it to be dynamic like Affinity seems to be based on, Inkscape had a dynamic offset/inset feature that worked nicely. However, an. option to keep angles the same instead of rounding them would be nice as well.
However, you could probably achieve the same effect using the curves of an object (Make a duplicate, make the curve, expand it and then add/subtract it from the original shape) but it takes quite a while to do...

    Hi garet

What Michelangelo meant is the duplicate function (Ctrl/Cmd+J) and it's "memory" function.

Let's say you draw a rectangle. Then you hit Ctrl+J to duplicate it and then rotate and make the new copy a little smaller.
If you now hit Ctrl+J again the new instance will also rotate and scale the same ammount as the last one.

This way you can do circular patterns very, very quickly.

(I hope this was not too confusingly written... :S)
