  1. Heads-up, Serif: Affinity no longer belongs to you. Canva owns it. And in time you'll realize just how much in control of ownership they are.
  2. "The writing is on the wall" as they say. I used to use Ulead's Photo Impact Pro. Eventually, it was sold to Corel Corp., who cannibalized it and got rid of it. Now, even Corel is owned by a different corporation. Subscription services like Adobe's is a rip-off, and once Affinity apps become that, I will find a replacement. Serif's announcement & FAQs are Extremely carefully worded, but much of the truth can still be deciphered because most of us users are accustomed to the smart phrases they used, and will continue to use. I hope they prove me wrong, but in the long run, I doubt it. Canva cannot be compared to Serif's quality (just look at the Canva examples online). I enjoyed the idea of Affinity being real competition for Adobe, but that pleasure will be totally gone once Canva starts pressuring the Affinity division. Affinity apps will become Canva apps in time. You'll see ... we'll All see.
  3. ferrell, Ever try to duplicate a problem you're having and now, suddenly, the problem has gone away? Anyhow, I just tried doing exactly what I explained in my original post, and nothing went wrong!! I did the entire process three times and every time it came out with No problems! I apologize for wasting your time, and I am extremely grateful for your help. Now, all I can do is hope the problem doesn't return. I'd like to mention that ever since I began using Affinity Photo and Designer in 2017, this problem has been consistently happening every time until today. But if it comes back, I'm not going to post about it. Thank you ferrell.
  4. No, I haven't been saving it. After editing it in Photo, I've used either "Edit in Designer" or Copy & Paste to transfer the file back to Designer. Are you suggesting that saving the file in Photo, then opening it in Designer will keep the changes I make? I'll give it a try. Thanks.
  5. I create card stock model buildings in Affinity Designer V2. Here is my problem: I create an object such as a building wall, and add/adjust some attributes. Then I take that object/file into Affinity Photo V2 (by using "Edit in Photo") to adjust colors, etc. Afterward, I take it back into Designer. But now the object/file loses all of the changes I made in Photo! Why?! What do I need to do to keep the changes/additions I made in Photo without losing them when I return the object/file to Designer? Note: The same problem occurs when I use Copy/Paste instead of Edit in Photo and Edit in Designer.
  6. I have a similar issue with Surface Dial: It doesn't cause Designer to crash completely, it freezes up several seconds and the program becomes unusable. Therefor, there are no "Crash Reports" made, which leaves me with nothing to send you. Note: Designer goes haywire after the program has started and ready to use in Windows 10 with all updates.
  7. Carl123, Thanks so much for the info! That's exactly what I was looking for. I never suspected Microsoft had an actual option in Windows for turning off the file icons. I thank you again!
  8. I keep all of my Affinity Designer files in special folders. Often, when searching them in File Explorer, I have a need to see what is behind the Affinity symbol in the lower right corner of the thumbnails, but the Affinity symbol is large and covers much, and using the Preview Pane doesn't help. I've tried changing what program opens the files in order to cause a smaller symbol to be on the thumbnails instead, but then I lose the convenience of the simple click to open them in Designer. A search for help in Google has not been fruitful. Can the app symbols on thumbnails be hidden or removed while still retaining the Extra Large icons in File Explorer? The problem is only of minor annoyance, but I thought I'd try the Forums in case someone has any magic solution they'd like to share.
  9. stokerg, I'm satisfied that Designer is working correctly again (it's been through the ringer). Thank you, stokerg, your idea really eliminated the problem. I'll have to remember that way of starting up Designer in the future (if the problem comes up again).
  10. stokerg, I did what you suggested, and so far Designer has not recreated the problem (and I tried numerous times). However, because the immediate closing of files was seemingly a random thing, I cannot yet be sure it won't happen again. I'll continue working with the program as usual for a time and then post the results here. Many thanks for your quick help!!
  11. In the past two weeks, Designer (in Windows 10 w/latest updates) has started closing the program right after I click on any file in the "Open" dialog box. After that, I cannot restart Designer by clicking the desktop icon. I have to use right-click and choose Open. It seems to happen randomly as I never know if whichever file I click on will actually open, but the same file opens with no problem later. Do I need to reinstall?
  12. I up-vote a "recently used brushes" panel! That would be really helpful.
  13. Thanks, dutchsader. Just goes to show how much I try to understand apps I use (embarrassing).
  14. How about an optional combined Copy & Paste choice (preferably in the context menu) so that both tasks can be performed in one click. I know that feature sure would save me a lot of extra moves & clicks.
  15. Please forgive me. I misunderstood the wording at the end of the email I received today from Affinity, but all is well now. Thank you for your kind response and not pointing out my stupidity.
  16. At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot, where are the apps available for Photo and Designer on Windows? I haven't had any luck locating them on the Affinity web site.
  17. I've never used GIMP or Photoshop, so I don't know how common this feature is, but how about an option in the Edit drop-down (and also the right-click context menu) for Paste To Pointer. This would be useful in both Photo and Designer. The software I've always used it in was Corel PhotoImpact X3, and it has become a great convenience to me. Having the copied object attached to the pointer helps me when I'm zoomed in to an area where the original copied object is not located (saves having to zoom out to pick up object, move to the needed location, and then zoom in to paste precisely). It's also convenient having the object already attached to the pointer and, therefore, faster.
  18. Graphissste, I agree with you completely. I like to experiment with things as I work on a project. Experimenting usually ends up in having to Undo the action, and always going into Edit first is an unneeded extra step. Just about every designing software program out there has Undo/Redo Buttons on the Toolbar. I wonder how Affinity creators of both Designer and Photo decided against them? If they aren't for it, then put the option in Customise Toolbar (like you suggested). Ease-of-use should be a priority, and having to go to Edit first or use Ctrl+Z is not as convenient as single-clicking an Undo icon. Edit: Oval, yeah, I forgot about the History Panel. Using it to undo actions definitely is as convenient as an undo button would be. Thanks for the reminder!
