Add a Built-In Font Creator
NewInBoston replied to rawii22's topic in Feedback for the Affinity V2 Suite of Products
Like you, I don’t know the intricacies or technicalities of creating font sets and naturally thought AD might be a good place to start, guess we now know it isn’t 😁 Though I see some font packs include SVG versions, so perhaps if only creating this export type AD might work. Set ruler spacing and make an alphabet.- 19 replies

I noticed the same thing, as did a few others. Some is absolutely organic, but most is not. Most people haven’t a clue that big corporations use forum brigading all the time for nefarious purposes. It’s well documented. There are a few active vocal “dissatisfied” users who spread into every thread like a toxic mold.

I hardly post on this forum. I’m here today to counter the trolls of which there are only a handful but who are loud, persistent, and rude to a team that I believe is deserving of some accolades. No one misunderstands anything. There is a very vocal minority here that somehow imagined “lifetime free updates” when they purchased or Serif, Ltd. is really Serif Foundation for Disenfranchised Artists dot org. The only mistake Serif made was not charging for an incremental update to help dispel the disillusion of charity.

Some of the complaints are hilarious and almost seem like a desperate attempt by competitors to discredit Serif’s achievements. This software is valuable to us professionals and as capable as anything Adobe offers with this V2 release. Hopefully the team buys a company yacht with some of the incoming sales (which likely won’t slow down for a long, long time) and cruises off to celebrate 🎉 They deserve it.

It's possible to compare price, which is what the cited quote was explaining - not feature set. Affinity Suite is a much better deal. Which software is better is entirely subjective. The conversation pivoted to this because one post stated they were switching to something more expensive rather than paying for something less expensive despite being happy with V1.

I am on the opposite spectrum and rather perplexed by some of the surprised responses I see about the paid upgrade path. Frankly, I would be shocked if Affinity were able to continue dominating Adobe CC simply by slinging books and art packs. I paid for copies of all Affinity apps nearly 7 years ago and was happy to purchase supplemental content to support them. Like you, I refuse to pay for a subscription model on core workflow tools. The alternative to that (the norm of yesteryear) was pay-per-update. Remember how Adobe used to charge 499.00 every few years? With Affinity, I think I paid maybe 150.00 for all 3 apps, but was happy to pay for them again for my new Mac when moving from my Windows machine because the cost was so affordable. Since I haven't been charged for an app update in 7 years, and ran out of ways to support Affinity in the shop due to purchasing all books and art packs, V2 was an instant buy. And honestly 99.00 is a deal, yet again. And it's one time payment, with years of updates to come with new tool. New features like live meshwarping are likely only possible because of an entire engine rewrite. I do music production on the side as well and I can tell you that Logix Pro X is free because it's subsidized by the price of their computers, which stop receiving updates to the newest OS every few years - forcing users to upgrade. It surely isn't free. Also Logic rarely releases major updates with ground breaking features. Either way, every other DAW save FL studio charges at least 199 / year for point releases. iZotope (one of the most expensive luxury plugin companies) sells dozens of different products as single purchases and bundle for hundreds or even thousands of dollars with expensive semi-yearly releases. What was the cost of the latest Ozone 9 suite? 800 bucks? What was the upgrade path? 400? On something like a 2 year release cycle. Here is Affinity with a 99.00 upgrade path for all core apps with a track record of several years of major upgrades. Since when did "own your software" mean lifetime updates? Anyways, I am delighted. Sorry you are not.

Publishing ePubs & Kindle Format?
NewInBoston replied to Khell's topic in Feedback for Affinity Publisher V1 on Desktop
Does anyone have any experience using Pages that comes with macOS? Apparently it can handle EPUB, and I was reading if I need it in Mobi format for Kindle, there is a free software called Calibre that can convert EPUB to any format. http://calibre-ebook.com/ I only ask because I try to avoid application bloat where possible, and Jutoh is yet another license to track among the hundred or so I already have! Thanks for any info, as I'd like to start formatting as soon as possible. -
I just searched this forum after encountering the problem many times including about 10 mins ago. I never thought to check Magnet, but it does seem to occur around the same time as using Magnet to resize the Affinity window. Quitting Magnet made pinch to zoom on trackpad work immediately. (2017 MacBook Pro, Mojave 10.whatever the newest is)

I would love to see an option that forces all resize selections to constrain without using shift modifier rather than the way it is now where resize constraint varies depending on selection. Current workflow is something like (off the top of my head, might not be 100% accurate) Image selected = constrained; use shift modifier to break Multiple images selected = unconstrained, use shift modifier to force. Single vector layer = unconstrained, use shift to force Group of layers = constrained, use shift modifier to break multiple groups of layers selected = unconstrained, use shift modifier to force The problem with this is that when selecting objects on canvas , I might be grabbing a variety of the above so I always have to closely watch ratios to make sure nothing gets skewed. I need items unconstrained maybe 5% of the time, thus the option to just force constraint with shift to unconstrain ALL no matter selection would be highly beneficial. Thanks for the great work with 1.7!
