howdytom reacted to abra100pro in Affinity and Canva (hopefully not a bug related topic)
I came to Affinity because of two reasons:
It is way more efficient and optimized as bad old Illustrator and InDesign. It is lightning fast and easy to use. It has an intuitive UI I can buy and keep it. @walt.farrell I gladly will buy a version 3 and 4 and... but in my first post I was pointing to a likely future where there will not be a version 3 to buy. Or Affinity being degraded into something Canva-Local-App to support Canva's online subscription services. The way this FAQ is being answered (see my first post above) is so greasy – if Affinity would have made sure, that the model stays the same, they would have posted it proudly and clearly. The fact that they didn't.... well...
@garrettm30 This posts makes me sad. Affinity claiming they're not for sale (no matter when that was) and now being sold. While we live in a world of utter maximisation, there is alway the hope of this Robin Hood, out there, that wins because we all win.

I've seen this happening a few times before with other software companies and have already started looking for alternatives to Publisher. Not going to switch immediately, but based on experience I know it's time to start evaluating other software as V2 is probably going to be last I have bought.
Unfortunately, me switching software won't change anything: Everyone who currently works at Serif will have their retirement secured (congrats by the way, you deserve it!) and considering how many users Canva has, it doesn't make a difference to them if a few Affinity users jump ship.
I'm only sad to see another company I really used to like and trust (trust that has been completely obliterated with just three simple lines of marketing hogwash) "go to the money". Surely it makes perfect sense financially, but morally and ethically it is just. not. OK.
This is, however sad it may be, the world we live in and the world mankind has created for themselves. It's not about happy trusting users anymore, not about having a nice niche, but only about engagement, growth at all cost and a number at the bottom of the spreadsheet.
To be honest: If I had the choice to cater to175 million non-pro users and buy my private island in the carribean or to cater to 3 million pro users who's trust I have, I don't know what I would do. I get the decision, but don't like it. At all.
Gonna have a beer now, see what other software is available and probably delete my forum user account. Because ... well ... it's done. Serif has lost me as a "friend" and created a "faceless customer" that isn't loyal anymore but will vote with their wallet and go away as soon as things change too much in the wrong direction.

It is so sad when a vision driven company, sells out to the investor driven companies. Won't be long until the vision is lost and it is only about how much investors make. Investors don't care about who they leave drowning in their wake. RIP Affinity....

More like crappy templates for all! Canva's just a huge online and shitty clipart service for non-designers. Canva is delusional if they think they are going to seriously compete with Adobe.

Adobe has nothing to be proud of.  They took a single pay product, and turned it into a subscription.  And then there was the whole Pantone fiasco where they were threatening users who tried to remain on an older version of Illustrator that still had the old Pantone libraries.
    They are pro-corporation, and anti-consumer.

!00% agree.  A credible professional alternative to Adobe in this space seems to have committed suicide by linking with an amateur focused company.

    Hi there,
does Affinity Designer provide a Polar Grid Tool like AI? I’d like to create Polar coordinates. (see attached image). Currently the only workaround is to creating multiple circle and split and merge them.

    Thanks,

    Hi howdytom,
There's no known issues with running both versions concurrently, though it's worth being careful with your files, v2 will warn you when you open a v1 document.

Quick update on this issue: It turned out this glitch effect was caused by a dying Radeon graphic card. I have replaced the AMD Radeon HD 7950 with the exact same model. Now, random glitches are gone! Hope this helps...

We're definitely not alone. Some people just accept the current state of things. Some of them don't notice anything at all. Some are trying to highlight certain issues, as we do.
    I'm running a hackintosh build: Intel Core i9-9900K, Radeon RX 580 8GB, 32GB 3200MHz DDR4 RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD Samsung 970 Pro.
    macOS Catalina, Big Sur, Monterey.

Many thanks for letting me know and I'm certainly sorry to hear this - I'll be sure to update the development log with your macOS specs, so that they can continue to investigate this further!

I’d like get back on this topic. I am also looking for a default settings as süppel pointed out.

Sorry, I totally disagree on that. It’s kind of confusing that images show up blurry and pixelated as default.   Still, first reaction to me is what happened to the image quality? Using a keyboard shortcuts to switch the document view to 100% is an unnecessary step. If you’re working with multiple images you don’t want to do that on every image, do you? Images should be opened in the 100% view as default.     Do we already have a feature request for that?

We've been trying all morning on a plethora of devices however we haven't been able to reproduce this yet. We're struggling to find similar hardware. I have made the developers aware and the rest of the team will be looking out for this. If I hear anything or need anything, I will let you know—thanks.

@Chris B The glitch is totally random. It's happening with Live Filters enabled. When I add a new curve layer and zoom in and out 10 times, everything looks good. However next time the glitch shows up again.

    Hey howdytom,
Can you do a screen recording at all? This looks slightly different to me. Also, can we have the file or a test file?
Also, can you provide your system specs please?

I'm experiencing the same problem with visible square tiles flickering during zooming in and out in all three Affinity products (both 1.10.1 and 1.10.3). I'm wondering if it's a normal behavior of Affinity screen rendering engine or we're currently seeing something that we shouldn't see and screen content should refresh much quicker and smoother without those tiles showing all around?
