  1. Funny you say that, as i looked at it 2 days ago and saw how well they're doing. Almost gave me the will to learn it... but pfff, too old, too hard, haha. After 25 years of illustration, i'm now a carpenter, and happy with it. And no IA can do my job (for now...). This IA thing is really something you graphists have to worry about, and i've seen Canva is already in it, which is frightening for the future of softwares "made for artists". Seen a very interesting video about this : AI vs Artists - The Biggest Art Heist in History If creativity is killed by IA, then humankind is out... I sincerely wish you creative guys the best of luck. Subscription is the last of your worries...
  2. Haha, clearly no hope. I've bought Luxology Modo (3d) at early stage, perpetual license was their credo, nice team, great communication. They sold to Foundry, big CG company, with the exact same speech, almost word to word (really, i laught reading the CEO's text...). One year later : subscription. Two years later : Modo was almost killed by Foundry and is now barely alive... I've bought ZBrush at early stage, perpetual license, free upgrades for years and years (incredible, by the way...). They sold to Maxxon, another big CG company. Well, do i need to tell the story ? You get it. (except Maxxon didn't kill it, at least) I' m out of this business now, so no big deal for me, but i could bet my house on the licence policy's future... Sorry for you, pro guys.
  3. Thanks Meb. Yes, would be nice, this and the ability to move layers within macros... Hey, i'm moving to Lisbon with friends tonight for a few days. Have any unknown nice place to go ?
  4. Yes, the only difference is that "create mask" keeps the original layer. Anyway, i need a macro because the wanted result is a little bit more complex : macro1 - open greyscale image - invert - rasterize to mask (or create mask, but i'll have to delete the original layer anyway) - create new layer - fill with black - end of macro 1 because of inability to change layer order - put mask layer above black one macro2 - Fuse visible layers (don't know the proper name in the english version) - Rename - Select underlying layer - Delete x 2 (black layer and mask) - Change mode to RGB There i have a transparent layer ready to be used in my final image. (for info, it is to convert a B&W Ambient Occlusion file into a transparent layer, AO files being special shadows from 3D renders. It's usually used in Multiply mode, but my clients are Art Directors, you know... the kind of guys that ask for 4x3 meters street ads files at 300 dpi...Haha, sorry, i guess there's plenty here...) About the rasterize thing, i don't always understand either, because AF seems to rasterize Pixels layers for some effects... -> ?
  5. yes, i think i got confused too by this "alpha" channel where i could not paste greyscale pixels... Now i indeed used Rasterize to Mask in a macro and it does the job. Too bad is that i have to do the process in 2 macros because of the inability to record layers move. This i find strange, as AF is very clever in macro's layer selection, offering a bunch of usefull options. I guess it could do so with layers moves... (1 up, 1 down, top, bottom, etc...)
  6. Toltec : Haha, ok i surrender. I actually had to reinstall PS to double check, thanks,.. AF : 1 point. R C-R : Thanks for the explanations, even if i already quite understand how channels work : i'm making images all day long (which are so perfect they don't need PS or AF, haha ! ...hem.) The confusion is all my fault : i work on images which already have an alpha channel, thus the copy and past process. Indeed, if there is no previous alpha, you have to create a mask to make one... Thanks for your help, case closed. Now uninstalling PS again...
  7. Replies are crossing... Thanks again, i'll try to "macrofy" this, it will be fine. cheers.
  8. Sorry if that sounded harsh to you, that was certainly not the purpose. Again thanks for helping. It's indeed a bit more than three clicks, your turn to being not that objective :) . Alpha layers being just greyscale images, using one without any other manipulation seems very obvious to me, that's why i don't understand the impossibility to do so in Af... I used about 2% of PS, so i switched to Af with joy, but i just find out that the rare Af flaws are just in my 2%... gasp. It is quite bothering me because i have plenty of image to process this way, and this is something i do very often. Three clicks by hundreds... And again, i can draw on alpha channel, but not paste any copied pixels... Isn't it stupid ?
  9. Voila, a mask on the Alpha. Not 2 seconds but under 30 seconds. Yeah, thanks. You're both kind to have taken time to reply, but i find the solutions quite cumbersome, sorry... Again, why is it impossible to paste anything directly on alpha channel ? That's really strange...
  10. Mmmh... Thanks for your reply, but, really ? So : - Duplicate layer - Invert - Rasterize to mask - Drop as Mask on original layer - Add Level adjust layer, because greys are not really transparent, there's white in it. - Drop on original layer - Adjust levels so the white goes out - Fusion (sorry, french version here...) the layers to get a transparent layer alone Wow. It does work... Somehow. But... Really no way to simply paste greyscale image on alpha layer ?
  11. Hi, I have a greyscale image that i want to use as alpha channel for another layer (well, the same, in fact). This would take me 2 seconds in PS : invert layer, copy, select alpha channel, paste, done. I struggled in Affinity for more than an hour, search tutorials, watched videos... no way. Can't figure it out. I just can't paste anything in the Alpha channel. Not even in a layer mask, but that's not waht i want anyway... And i dropped PS for Affinity... (honestly, i just love Af Design, but just don't get Af Photo, it's... bah, i don't get it...) Help, please ?
  12. Here is a quick example (afdesign file). The idea would be to have ability to modify the text without having to redo the mask. I did not found out a way to do so, but again i'm a very beginner... GepMasking.afdesign
  13. Meb : it works indeed with a pixel layer as filling, but doesn't with a curve layer : it also masks the stroke... In my exemple, the filling is a group of two curve layers : a plain rectangle for background color and some curve stars above. (Seems you can't mask with a Group either...) So it seems my instance story wasn't relevant, anyway... Thank you for taking time to post your example. Cekuhnen : yes, i was trying to go quick and it ends the other way round... I'll have a look to symbols, thanks. (instance are indeed what you said, a linked clone, sorry if this is a 3D soft term only...)
  14. Thanks Meb, Well, i surely was unclear (not english native...). Here is a (bad taste) example: a text with NIGHT, having a stroke, and a 'picture layer with stars. I'd like to have the stars inside my text filling, but the text stroke still visible. With your solution, the stroke simply disappear, leaving only the cut filling. The workaround is to the create an fx contour to the masked layer, but then you can't use all the stroke tools available (dotted, textures, etc...), but only plain lines. If i could instance my text, i would be able to have the 'stroked' text above, and the 'filling' below, masked by the text instance. I would then keep all my stroke customization available and visible, while keeping text edition ability. Not sure to be much clearer... :)
  15. Hi, New to Designer but used to 3D, i wonder if there's a way to create an instance of a layer : in 3D softs, you can create an instance of a mesh, and it just change along with its master. Very useful. Why in Designer ? I have a text and i want it to be visible, but filled with another layer. As now, i have to duplicate it and use it as mask on the filling layer, but if i change the text or typo, i have to do it all again. If i could have an instance of my text layer as mask, i wouldn't have to care about it anymore : changes on the text would apply to the mask. Is there a way to achieve this already ? (search but couldn't find) If not, is it worth a FR ?
  16. Thanks, that did the trick, back to normal. I now wonder what it will be on my "work" PC where i have Datacolor Spyder calibration profile installed... Will see tomorrow. Thanks again.
  17. Hi Chris, The Navigator panel displays the same wrong colors (lower right panel, is it ?). I have no active color profile (Win 10). I have one in the window display config, but it is not activated. Activating it doesn't change anything. Again, only AP displays wrong colors. I join a screen capture of AP and Stupid Windows Paint, which is not known as a reference in image processing, side by side... As you can also see in this picture, the color swatch is set on 255.255.255 and is yellow, whereas the typos and even transparency icon are plain white... I mainly work with Modo, ZBrush and untill now PS and never had this issue. Edit : the active color profile in AP is sRGB, as in others (Modo and PS).
  18. Hi, just trying AP for the first time and i have an issue : my pictures colors are wrong (yellow/red dominance). When i set the color swatch (?) on 255.255.255, it is yellow, not white. My screens are not particulary accurate, but they still display white as... white. And the same pictures openned in Photoshop or ACDSee just display fine. I guess there is a profile issue here, but honestly i'm not a pro and can't find out what i should do. Help please ?
