I should have been clearer but that was what I meant by the term "detached", by placing a picture in a frame that comes from a master page it essentially "detaches" the frame from the master. It continues to inherit the width/height/position of the frame from the master but the content is "detached".

Publisher 1.7.0 (Mac) - Find & Replace 'undo' bug
Jon P replied to Ed A's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Hi Ed A, I've had a go reproducing what you've described but not had much luck so far, let me know if you do reproduce it and what steps you take to do so. Were you working directly into a text frame on a page or a detached frame from the master?- 2 replies

Hi sdrum, The automatic replacing of images seems to be functioning for me, can I just double check you have the option enabled in preferences to automatically replace linked images if the source changes? Can you clarify what you mean by text balloon? Are you referring to the callout quickshapes? I have no issues converting those to curves currently. Also just to note you are a beta build out of date, a link to the 227 build is on this forum so it will be worth updating. Thanks

Install Keeps failing
Jon P replied to comictommy's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
Hi comictommy, At what point does it say the install has failed and what exact message are you getting? Are you updating or performing a fresh install? -
Linked resource changed popups round
Jon P replied to Wosven's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
A crash even if not a regular use case should never really exist, as much fun as it is to look for them in QA. When looking into this I did update 100+ images at once in a batch command and the app didn't crash, it just had around 200 pop ups to get through due to the above bug. I'll have another go at changing metadata like you did and see if I can get it to crash. -

No problem @marno Can you upload it here https://www.dropbox.com/request/OpBA9oKgcKAT9Kh8iY9x - This file will only be accessible internally Thanks -

Hi marno, Is it possible for you to attach the file you are using in the screencast so I can look into this? Thanks -
PDF import with wrong textbox sizes
Jon P replied to ueliraz's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
The differences in this import are due to the "Favour editable text over fidelity" box being ticked, if this is not enabled the textboxes are as it looks inside the pdf. It looks like when we import this with the option enabled the justification settings on the text aren't being imported that well. I'll log this to ensure we are doing the best we can when importing with the editable text option enabled, but if you just ensure it's disabled for now it will import as it looks in the pdf. Thanks -
Linked resource changed popups round
Jon P replied to Wosven's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
Hi Wosven, The first bug you encountered with the images being negative when linked will be the same as them appearing on negative on export. This is logged with us (as well as the encoding issues on some of the example PDFs you have supplied). The application was right to inform you the images had been modified, and we do currently have a bug logged where our popups are being duplicated which you have encountered here. The rest of the suggestions are improvements which I can pass on. I also think we should maybe handle having so many pop ups queued a bit better. Thanks -
Section Manager Dialog Behaviour
Jon P replied to Seneca's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
I should have clarified, that's the behaviour I've reproduced and logged. I was referring to the video posted by @Todd Hagler, as he shows the dialog failing to update when moving between sections. -
Section Manager Dialog Behaviour
Jon P replied to Seneca's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
I can reproduce what @Old Bruce is describing and will get this logged (It does indeed only seem to be accepting the first letter each time the dialog is opened in the newest build). I've not managed to reproduce the behaviour in the video in the newest build as Bruce mentions, can you check build 221 and let me know if you still get this behaviour? Thanks! -
Section Manager Dialog Behaviour
Jon P replied to Seneca's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Hi Todd, I've just had a quick look around and can't reproduce this dailog failing to work when closed/re-opened a few times. Is it possible for you to create a quick screen recording of the issue so I can see if I am missing something? Also do you get the same behaviour on a new document or just the one you are currently working on? Thanks -
Crash when scrolling
Jon P replied to Christian Luidolt's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
Hi, Thanks all of you for getting all the files and crash dumps to me. I've finally managed to fairly constantly reproduce this problem with @Christian Luidolts file. I'm still trying with some of the others (I've seen it once with a couple of the other files but struggle to constantly reproduce it) As discussed here, the common theme seems to just be the issue on very large, image heavy documents. I'm logging an issue and attaching the provided crash dumps/files for the developers to continue to investigate. Thanks again for providing the files and crash dumps. -

Crash when scrolling
Jon P replied to Christian Luidolt's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
Hi all, If you could upload any more files that demonstrate this issue here: https://www.dropbox.com/request/TIvDIBzoxvVpbEa9CNRO I am still investigating this, but it would help if anytime the program crashes if you could navigate to the following folder and attach any crash dumps found to this thread/my dropbox %AppData%\Roaming\Affinity\Publisher\1.0 (Beta)\CrashReports\reports Thanks -
Affinity Pub quits when scrolling
Jon P replied to Frederick Felix's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on Windows threads
Hi, I do suspect this is related to documents with a large amount of images in, but unfortunately am still struggling to reproduce it here (even on a more resource limited VM), so I suspect there could be an issue related to certain drivers/hardware which I am investigating. To help, any time the program "disappears" and has crashed could you please navigate to the following folder to see if there is a crash report, and if so attach it to this thread: %AppData%\Roaming\Affinity\Publisher\1.0 (Beta)\CrashReports\reports Thanks -
Hi Wosven, I've loaded this onto a fairly resource limited VM and the worst I can seem to get is around 15-20minutes to save. I've spoken to the developers about this and they are going see what can be done to get this time down, however it should be noted that the 34 PDF is a fairly complex and image heavy document, and on a resource limited machine long times are to be expected.
-
Happy new year :), The fonts/encoding of the pdf is already logged with us (Chris K logged this from another thread). I've tested the loading times here on a few machines and it doesn't seem to take too long to load, re-saving it however does take longer. I would expect this pdf to take some time to be saved as an afpublisher file (a fair amount of pages and high dps images), do you mind letting me know your system specs? The worst we've had is 10-15minutes to re-save. Thanks
-
@Steps Thanks for sending the file, I've not had any luck reproducing a crash using this file but am still looking into it. We actually have quite similar specs for our local machines. Do you find you have the crashes happen after a long period of use? @EVAV It looks like the main issue here is the program failing to exit correctly (which in turn will likely prevent the next run up until you restart). Are you able to attach your file to the above dropbox link so I can see if something is in your file that is causing this to happen? Regarding the memory issues that have been mentioned (such as memory not being released after export) this is how we handle memory. Instead of actively freeing the memory we make it available to your operating systems garbage collection, so if something else was to need the memory it would then be freed. So memory usage staying high after an export is to be expected.
