Pšenda reacted to Ash in We want to help
Hi All,
Unfortunately, we are hearing many stories from the creative community about how they are being severely impacted by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. We know we can’t solve a lot of these problems, but we do want to try to offer as much support as possible.
That’s why we’re announcing three measures that we've just put in place. They are:
A new 90-day free trial of the Mac and Windows versions of the whole Affinity suite A 50% discount for those who would rather buy and keep the apps on Mac, Windows and iPad A pledge to engage more than 100 freelance creatives for work, spending the equivalent of our annual commissioning budget in the next three months (more details of this will be announced next week). The introduction of the 90-day free trial and deeply discounted pricing is done in the hope that this will make life a little easier for people who rely on creative software to make a living, but may be stuck at home without their usual tools, or for students who might not have access to their Affinity apps on their personal devices. In addition, by increasing our spend on commissioning work from freelancers we can also put some extra money into a part of the industry which will be particularly affected.
We plan to make the free trial and additional discount available until 20 April, but of course we will continue to review the situation as time goes on.
We have put posts on Facebook and Twitter about what we are doing if it's something you would like to share.
We're now all working from home
In terms of the team here, we have all vacated our Nottingham offices and are now working from home. Naturally this is causing us some disruption, but we continue to type code and expect to carry on making good progress with our development efforts.
Support is a bit trickier though. Firstly, we can’t accept inbound telephone calls right now, and there are also going to be challenges for our staff to work their normal full-time hours – especially with imminent school closures in the UK. We’re obviously going to do our very best but hope you will understand if we are not as fast to respond to email as usual.
Of course, if a question you have is something which could be answered by our community, then we’d also greatly appreciate if you put that here on the forum rather than contact us directly. It would definitely help us out a lot.
Frankly it’s hard to know what to say or do in this unprecedented situation. But more than anything else, we want to use this opportunity to wish good health to you and your loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
All the very best,
Ash

It is possible add this feature "Add new curve to selected curves object" (checkbox button on Context Toolbar), which is only in Pen Tool, to Pencil and Brush Tool?

... which can be if necessary divided into individual curves Menu>Layer>Geometry>Separate Curves (you can edit strokes separately).

Pšenda reacted to walt.farrell in Suspect email link from support?
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.
That email is not from Serif.
It is from Affinity Revolution, a different company, and you should contact them if you have any questions about the email you received from them.

Pšenda reacted to Shloime in Request: Make new guides in manager editable
Hi,
When I use the Guides manager and add a new guide, it would be nice if the new guide had the focus and would be editable immediatly and not only after clicking on it.
Thanks.

Pšenda reacted to UkeyD in Snapping not working?
Hi Garry and Pšenda thanks so much for your help.
I got it all working by checking everything but haven’t unchecked anything yet as I have been working on a job and needed to get it finished. Will have a look at unchecking gradually and see how I go. That’s really helpful thank you.
I wasn’t sure where predefined preset was so haven’t tried that option.
Thanks again
UkeyD

Pšenda reacted to Fritz_H in URGENT - how do I open a document made with 1.8 in 1.7.3
you know, why its called graphics workstation?
because of it´s high computing power, it´s tons of RAM and strong GPU-Power to accelerate calculations.

Serif does not do that. Minor updates are things like 1.8.0, 1.8.1, 1.8.2.
1.8 compared to 1.7 is a major update, and major updates are where Serif has changed the file format as far as I know.

Pšenda got a reaction from RNKLN in URGENT - how do I open a document made with 1.8 in 1.7.3
As I wrote a few posts above, if you need to transfer files from a later (backward incompatible) version to an older version, there is no problem to export the data (pdf, svg, eps, ...) and import it into the older version with about 100% success. I prefer this.

Try export and import (for example pdf). Or try new beta with fixes.

Since Updates from 1.7 to 1.8 are free Serif expects the user to install the Update - I guess.
kind regards
Fritz
Update: found out that I misunderstood the posting of Alex_M; sorry.

I greatly appreciate it.

Pšenda got a reaction from Megnusin in AD: Every shape has a purple outline but I have no outline selected
Yes, it is "number one" :-)
I think, Serif should disable this option by default, and let an experienced user turn it on. There are plenty of "Features" to default shutdowns (for beginners).
A mode for beginners and professionals would also be useful.

I'm sorry Callum,
if there are variations they are only pejorative.
My primary question was to know why it displays in sections while in PS it is instantaneous; yet ol PC is the same.
Thanks for the time I make you lose___

no it really is not... we serve up time limited URLs when you request a trial and some AV software do not like the look of them, but that is one of our URLs (if you got it from our website or our email after claiming the free trial, not otherwise)

Pšenda reacted to lepr in How to create a Reuleaux Triangle
Unless you zoom in extremely closely, you won't see the Ellipse Tool's deviation from a true ellipse.
To see for yourself that an Affinity "circle" isn't a true circle:
use Designer for its Outline view mode for the clearest comparison of the curves draw a "circle" with Ellipse Tool press cmd+j to duplicate it zoom in as much as you want and see that the two curves overlap perfectly rotate the duplicate about its centre by 45 degrees now see that the curves deviate and cross each other at eight points
