Pšenda reacted to nezumi in PSD smart object support in Photo 1.8.0 (split)
I am guessing that this option is more for importing proprietary smart objects so we can get as much as possible out of it and continue happily inside of the Affinity package. You know that PS smart objects are part of Adobe closed code don't you? So what do you want them to do - reverse engineer Photoshop and release it under new name? It is amazing they even got that far with it.

Pšenda reacted to R C-R in Hint in New Document dialog
FWIW, the Mac 1.8 versions of all 3 apps have an "Add New Preset" tooltip for the plus button, so it appears that is a Windows only omission.
That said, it seems to me that since it currently only appears in the collapsable "Layout" section with the name of the currently selected preset to its right, it would make more sense for the button to be a standard labeled one in the empty space to the left of the Create & Cancel buttons at the bottom of the window, & also for the currently selected preset to appear on a line of its own above the search field, not in any of the collapsable sections.

Thanks for the info, I added the Tag.

I was also wondering why this is so strange. Maybe only Layouts settings are stored in Presets.
But this is probably not true, because changing Print to Print Ready also changes the color format to CMYK.

    Please,
you could add a hint/tooltip to the "+" button to see what it causes (that will add current/entered settings to My Presets).

Of course it would be good for all other items as well.
    Thank you

    Edit:

Just a small comment - the wording is probably not the most appropriate. Rather, I would expect the Windows number after an OS name, not an ADesigner version.

Not normally no, but some of the extra content you can claim/buy is zipped up and as Walt has pointed out, some of the Mac betas are.
It's why i asked @Shannella Gaines where they got the download from, as there is nothing on their account, no order and no claimed content.

Make sure you are viewing the selection at 100% because anything another obviously constitutes zooming in and will ultimately reveal pixelation.
An alternative to the selection tool is to clip the image using a shape like the Ellipse shape. This has the benefit of being nice and smooth and also easily editable. You create an ellipse shape using the ellipse tool and then place (nest) the image in the Ellipse shape.

Not for Affinity applications on Windows, that I've ever seen.
Some of the Mac Affinity Beta downloads are .zip, though.

I hope Serif won't do this, because it inevitably increases the price of the license. And even for those users who are not interested in cross platforming at all.

Pšenda got a reaction from Markio in Locking layer contents
The existing way of locking the layer does not protect its contents from unwanted change.
It only provides protection before selecting from canvas area and moving contents (https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/53707-lockingunlocking-layers/&do=findComment&comment=271924).

But it would also be useful to ensure protecting the layer from unwanted contents modifications.
For example, as it is solved in Photoshop, with "Fully" and "Partialy" lock (https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/moving-stacking-locking-layers.html).

Pšenda got a reaction from IPv6 in Behaviour of Gradient Tool
It depends on what type of object you apply it to. If you apply it to a Pixel layer, as shown in your image, the adjustment is made and cannot be edited (destructive adjustment). If you apply a gradient to an object/shape (eg a rectangle, as suggested by haakoo), the adjustment is non-destructive, and its parameters can be edited again.
