Layer Lock Behavior Question
Pšenda replied to lb Cake's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
These icons indicate any object that has any nested objects, such as a rectangle with applied/nested adjustments, clipping, etc. If there is no other icon above ">/v" that describes the type of layer, then it is a Group. -
Layer Lock Behavior Question
Pšenda replied to lb Cake's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Has the bug Hint/Tooltip finally been fixed in the beta yet? Version 2.04 still insists on "Rectangle". -
The problem with the visual indication is that there are six different values, some of which may be accurate, some of which may not be, so a colorful and overly visible indication is distracting. A slight change in the background color of the editing field, or a small/bland triangle behind the number/outside the field (something like the Histogram, when the exact values are not displayed) would probably suit me. Anyway, it would be interesting if the Hint/Tooltip of the editing field always displayed the "exact" value, i.e. to the full 20 decimal places, which could possibly be copied and used in the calculation..

Round number warning
Pšenda replied to bures's topic in Feedback for the Affinity V2 Suite of Products
The first thing I set up after installing Affinity. Unfortunately, the transform panel has a bug - the editing fields do not adjust to the size of the panel, so even though the panel is wide enough, the editing fields are small, and not enough destinations are displayed 😞 So the option to set more decimal places (6 in the given example) is quite often useless because these places are not displayed. -
A whinge about the documentation

There is no problem specifying the correct version when searching in help using Google Search. for V2: https://www.google.com/search?q=Macro+panel+site:https://affinity.help/photo2 for V1: https://www.google.com/search?q=Macro+panel+site:https://affinity.help/photo P.S. It is the improved ability to search with Google, which often gives more relevant results than the built-in help search, that is a big benefit of the web version. -
You need to ensure that the original "pixel perfect" images are "pixel perfect" even after moving (Force pixel alignment setting and Move by whole pixels disabling) and after resizing (2x, 3x). Shifting or resizing by a non-integer part will result in blurring because the original pixel has to be split/blurred into multiple pixels.

Several cases were noted on the forum where simply updating the driver was not enough, but it was necessary to uninstall it and reinstall a new driver (this procedure is also recommended by Serif). Therefore, if you feel that the graphics card is not working correctly (the need to turn off HW Acceleration for a supported card type), then this procedure is recommended.

If you noticed, in my post there is a citation from Ben - one of the main developers of Affinity applications, whereas with thomaso's its some weird and unfounded assumptions. What conclusion you choose from this is up to you - feel free to work on an external drive, but then don't be surprised if it fails one day (classically in the least suitable situation).
-
Have you seen any reports here about file corruption and loss of work due to HW Acceleration? So I don't. However, I have seen dozens of reports here about corrupted files when using external drives. After all, even here, Serif himself has made recommendations about not using external drives for work files many times. And that includes a description of the cause of the errors - loss of connection with the disk. Ignoring this technical aspect and thus the risk of data loss is of course up to each user and their approach to their own work.

Fix Highlight
Pšenda replied to kamelus's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
... In many better cameras this is directly implemented with function called "Exposure bracketing" or HDR. Otherwise, in general, overexposure is much more difficult to correct/restore than underexposure. If a part of the image is "overburnt", it is usually completely destroyed. In the dark/underexposed part of the image, some details can often be restored by correcting the exposure and brightening the shadows. For such problematic scenes, it is therefore better to underexpose the image a little (even though it will be dark). -
Effects dialog is not focused
Pšenda replied to orangefizz's topic in Feedback for the Affinity V2 Suite of Products
What exactly do you mean "when I click"? What exactly are you clicking on and what value should be entered? This is the most annoying and harmful function for me (the change of opacity is not indicated in the Layers panel, so it is very laborious to detect and find an accidentally damaged layer), which, unfortunately, cannot even be turned off. -
Unfortunately, another of the many cases of inappropriate use of Affinity applications, which are not yet designed to work seamlessly with external (not located directly in the PC) disks. If you don't want to lose your work, always save it on a local disk, and only back it up on an external/network/cloud (as recommended by Serif in the attached thread).
