Few day ago I made project in AD when some part are from start rotated on some not typical degree. I have to rotate new object which I want simply rotate on the same angle, but I don't know value of degree. I have some troubles with that. I use navigator and manualy match degree. It was resolve my case, but is any easier way to do that? Fx. I want place text in "7" with the same degree as one of edge (red line) as I do on attached file. * Typically snapping resolve my issues, bu when something is on not typical degree it's starting more complicated. So then I have another question here. For speedy measuring dimensions I draw rectangles and use navigator. If I want changing size to exactly some fraction on navigator I divide rectangle dimension to get 1/3, 1/4 of my new target size and make new object with snapping to rectangle. Is maybe any simpler way here doing this too?

Hi Callum, thank you for your answer! I hope this tool will be available on vector editing in AD. I can't edit element on the same time on AP and AD as I suggested here. If it will be posible I can make this faster what I want. At this stage of development is start project in AD, few times make adjustation in AP and is too long for me.

I have traced logo in Affinity Designer. I have object open book cover. I want simply put logo adjusted to cover. Idea ilustrate sample picture: On X and Y axis is simple - click on object, put value in navigator or move by Move Tool [V]. Using small circle I can rotate object. I want distort object to achieve effect similar to circle with shape on the left before text Dodo Case - it is what I mean by adjust in Z axis. Normally I would use distort or mesh tool but in AD is not available. I try select object and use Node Tool [A] to make this, but I'm not very happy with result. I have logo with man with a lot of points and adjusting this is quite troublesome (I have two groups - first is a complicated shape and second are bunch of simple circles). I try use S in Navigation to shear object and is at this time the best option for me. So then only available option is use Node Tool or S in navigation to achieve adjustation on Z axis or maybe can you sugest me another and better aproach?

File Save as and Export should be merged
affi.usr replied to rzozaya1969's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
Hi MEB, Nice to read it! I make a lot of banners for our webpage. We have limited bandwidth. After switch from AI and PSD I miss preview. At the first I have to save file few times to set best option to get smaller output baner filesize. -

File Save as and Export should be merged
affi.usr replied to rzozaya1969's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
From my point of view Export has missing one feature - preview for web format like GIF, JPG or PNG. It was be very nice to change quality of picture and check at the same time how is affect filesize. It is a logical extension of Export from menu. When you like massive operation you use Export Persona. -
Alex you are great! I really understand now what is expand stroke is. Yes, what you wrote is make sense for me. Now I more oriented how place my design thoughts in Affinity Designer application enviroment than before this topic. Thank you for all answers! From practicall point of view which model are used in programming is less importand from understand how apply our plans in graphics results. At the end of topic I would resolve one issue. When I want boolean operation in picture I have to convert it to curves. Why? Can it be simplier select picture, curves to dealing with on the process and makes operations without that step (convert picture to curves)?

When team will multiple twenty times Serif can be consider video app, but now is not make sense for me. At this time they make 5-6 applications simultanously (Designer for Mac and Windows, Photo for Mac and Windows and Affinity Publisher probably for two platforms two). In my humble opinion will be better for Serif make tree outstandind app for DTP, raster and vector design to make difference. On another way we will have to wait few times longer for improvment. At this stage of Affinity evolution after 5-10 years can be a reall alternative from versions AD/AP/APu 3 or 4. Stability, new funcionality and design will make difference. At this stage on page Quark I found info about professional recommended application to work with QuarkXPress is Photoshop and Affinity Photo what was very nice supprice for me.

Hi A_B_C, thank you for your explenantion! It's make more sense for me! From algorithm perspective and mathematic point of view is more clear for me why boolean operation works in that way. I'm not fully understand (A) situation. When I simply draw it on the paper straitght line and circle has commons points (in geometry titled chord). I think earlier from geometry perspective that common area of points is used to make operation. From other hand when stroke is 0 in stroke size it is a non zero area as you mentioned (it is like move pencil above paper without any sign of drawind). At this point behaviour is not clear, because on your example all curves has 0 size of stroke, but when line is curvy we have operation and when is straight - is not. Good side of this situation is when we keep this fact in mind we can make design with less troubles.

miles.stevens2 has right. We have software like Fast Stone Image View which is very usefull to browse picture (but is not like mentioned Lingo), make fastest operation and from perspective designing is extending Windows Browsers with gadgets. Who like graphic can combine few programs to make custom workflow, but in a lot of time one app could be speed workflow I've not heard about software with ability fx.: Filtering by: - final PDF, projects by used fonts, - finding projects using particular element like company vector logo, picture - projects by used color space, dimensions, type (like print, web) - deadlines Posibilities: - make backup on another storage like Samba share / NAS disk, network device automaticly similar to local cloud - grouping project by custom group like company name, audience - checking incompatible files fx. exotic filetypes from disk - checking writing project errors / reperaing file fx. missing fonts / files searching - using command line to speed up common operation fx. on Windows I press Win+R and type custom name shourtcut to open Affinity Designer, FTP client and more. It is faster than clicking touchpad or use pen tool (I'm wacom user on my laptop) - simplicity first with speed up optimalisation to faster load and more. I think any graphic designer and hobbyst can make a wishlist here what he think DAM can be for him and we here can think that what can make projects dashboard browser extremely usefull.

Hello reglico, you are absolutly right. I want achive the same angle from center, so I use power duplicate. I tried some other aproaches to find out what makes difference between binary operation. * Closed shape All working as I expected. Simply select all closed shape objects and use what you want. Very usefull aproach is press Alt (I'm Windows user) and create non destructive boolean operation as we can see on this movie: https://vimeo.com/110131937 Effect attached as "closed shape" image. If you don't need non destructive you can make this without Alt: https://vimeo.com/110161212 Open shape Open shape is another story. Is a difference when line is straight or curvy. Curvy line With expand stroke path split object directly as curve is drawn. Difference is when expand stroke is not applied. At this time Affinity Designer connect begin and end point and make closed shape before operation (in my example divide) and line behave like arc. Straight line Without expand stroke on object is simply remove line and make one object - in my test it was rectangle. So when you create rectangle and draw line by pen tool and apply divide nothing is change. Difference makes expand stroke. Then when I make use divide is working as expected. Summary Details which I wrote above makes my first troubles.

Hi reglico, I try first another aproach. Create by pen tool line from center to corner, power duplication by 360/5 degree with transformation panel and then use your method. Your way is the easiest. First I need only create paths as guide first and lock them to easier drawing (crucial was 72 degree for path). I can't uderstand why in some occasion divide not working. I can't find what it should be first made for binary operation to work with them. I think that is working in that way: I create object and to start dealing with Intersect, Divide etc., but I need select minimum 2 object and object above affect object below when I divide. For now if I draw path with 3 point in V-shape like style and I select them is a posibility divide if I hide all layers and it simply connect to point on border of artboard (see atached picture). I don't understand this behaviour. For me if I've few layers and one curve visible it should be not posible to divide them, but I can be wrong.

Why Affinity Designer can make drop shadow as effects, but when I try it was very time duplicate object and changing them. I found easier and faster way in alternative software. What I try Corel Draw drop shadow tool (I don't know languages in videos above, but image is more than words): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vy1F1owO-oU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CII84lHlV9c Drop shadow with posibility: - using blend modes - mixing effect and styles with them - using textures - using gradients it would be outstanding. Corel Draw drop shadow tool working very well. I'm started learning Corel too and is a very intuitive tool. Simply drag and adjust line similar to Affinity Designer Transparency Tool. Drop shadow tool can be as like duplication object but more automated with preset of gaussian blur and posibility making with them all what we can do in AD with other shapes fx. make shadow by drag and then adjust them by Transparency tool.

Why Choosing right font combination is essence of graphic design. I think it should be enhanced on two field - basic filtering and font management (for Affinity Publisher). How Filters - user can filter available font by checking option like fx. Corel Draw did. If I looking Serif font to match used Sans Serif I simply check "serif". Option will use available font metadata, filtering by family, styles is base. Selecting by available chars / glyphs / letters / characters - is crucial for multinational support. It's saving time. When I use polish text letters like ą, ę, ł, ó, ź many times are not available in font. In place fx. ą is square or character from another font. It is not look nice. On this function is simple inputbox where I put my letter like "ą" and Affinity Designer / Affinity Photo show me only fonts which can view this char. Is a very simple and may be unique advantage (I don't find it in any application) Font presets - posibility set shortcut to prefered fonts. It's like most used fonts, but I choose fx. "kids stuff "- my preset and get drawing font to project for kids, and then when I change to "industry business" I have classic fonts. At some times last and most used fonts are not enough. It should be only global feature, because for one document text styles are enough. *Font management - install / deinstall font, font sites integration like Font Squirell - I'm not sure that should be part of AD / AP. I prefer here more sofisticated DTP app. I'll be think about font site integration for all Affinity apps, because in some place is very handy on creative desig if user looks for more unique typoghaphy.

Hi MEB, thank you for your information. Custom guide is basic needed feature fx. distribution text based on the same value degree from center point paths. I hope that will be available soon. * I need some testing. I use reglico technique for test image posted on the first post and I have 4 parts, not 5 after divide. I use power duplicated to create path from center. Right horizontal line not splitting image. When my power supply come back I'll try and I'll write what I observed.

I want make puzzle from photography. Before I make something more complicated I create simple image. At the now Knife tool is not exist so then how split / divide photograp based on paths? On the example paradise island photo I want create 5 parts from them in 5 separate files. I'm stuck how divide photograph background when I draw lines. I try select all objects and use binary divide - is not working. I try put photograp inside rectangle then select all curves and use binary operation - nothing change too. I'm looking for way to make custom guide and split based on them too - I can't find this option. I use AD 1.5.3.69. Could you suggest me any solution?

I have a simple question. I know how do it, but is not very productive. How make a frame in post stamp like style in a easiest way? OK, I create rectangle, then I create circle, I copy circle few times, I select circles, I duplicated them. I repeat duplication of circles as I get line maked from circles standing together on one side of rectangle. I repeat this process to next side of rectangle. At the end I use binary minus front on rectangle backgroud. Is a easy way to duplicate circles to make standing together in one line in Affinity Designer? How set distrubution of duplicated circles to get the same measure of space between them in the easiest way? Could you sugest me any idea?

Intro I found in some post on forum moderator opinion that OLE (Object Linking and Embedding or something like that) will be limited to only Affinity Publisher. Request I think great idea is get ability to make simultaneous edition in Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo. For example in Affinity Designer we create portfolio frame and in Affinity Photo we edit photograph in Liquify Persona. I understand programming question but from my perspective of usability of application working together by linking it's a big step. I think Affinity Published could take advantage too - in place duplication a lot of feature of other parts of suite it can be more oriented on hyphenation and typicall typography issues. Linking files in AD, AP i APu get advantage thinking more about on design in place witch application choose. At hypothetical scenario we think about interesting way to create portfolio using Liquify Twirl Tool and vector frame with ability see final effect in real time. It would be feature for next 2.x generation.

I think about something similar to Corel LiveSketch in Affinity Designer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYdxHxdl7EI I can find video but in Illustator was similar function (probably CS6, other version - I don't know). When you drawing line you can adjust his shape by drawing part of them again. In short: fx. you're drawing curvy line. Next you are adjusting this by drawing them few times on tablet. If you're drawing some part not stright line but more similar to circle line is changing in real time to more curved. It could be alternative to pentool and make sketching for some people easier. For me more natural is use few shorts lines to make one longer. (Of course this functionality don't replace talent, but this idea looks interesting as extension of Bezier curves etc.).

How achive in Affinity Photo / Affinity Designer (I don't know which application will be better for that) result some like that based on photography: Could you sugested me which techniques try, what I should do? I've not idea how start with it. Is only way draw a outlines by pen tool for start with this?
