Thanks for that. Can I convert imported line work to vectors? i.e. a psd or jpeg drawing?

Just opened Affinity for the first time to use with my Mac via my Cintiq but can't get the pressure sensitivity to work in the app. If I select a brush and adjust the stroke for thick and thin from pressure the line does not respond it's just a regular line. What am i doing wrong?
