  1. I have examined these two "DMP" files in WinDbg 1.0.2007.06001 and think I have found the causer of the freez. See (win32u.dll) NtUserQueryDisplayConfig + 0x14 Affinity Designer_1.9.0.932_after_sleep_mode-WinDbg_DMP_Report.txt Affinity Designer_1.9.0.932_create_new_document-WinDbg_DMP_Report.txt
  2. Hi Mark, I have created two dumps from the Task Manager. One was created after waking up from sleep mode and the other when I killed Designer, reopened it and tried to create a new document. I compressed (7Zip) these dumps (3,7GB) to (460MB) and would like to transfer them to you, do you have a link to (dropbox, etc..) for me? ChristAlix
  3. Since I work mobile and often put my computer to sleep in power saving mode, I have since the latest update (1.9.0.932 all Affinity products incl. Designer) constantly problems with freezing of the program interface after "waking up" the computer. 2021-02-12-21-26-19.mp4 When I restart my computer then the Affinity programs work perfectly, as soon as the computer goes into power saving mode and is woken up again the user interface freezes in the Affinity programs used at the time (Designer, Photo, Publisher). As soon as I "kill" the frozen program and open it again, I can't create a new document in it, because the user interface freezes immediately. The only thing that helps then is a restart of the system. The worst thing is, there is no "crash report" and no "backup" of my work is created. What I have already tried: - "Clear User Data" applied. - Deleted the contents of the Prefetch folder. - Uninstalled all Affinity products, cleaned up the system & registry and reinstalled everything. - Installed new video card drivers This phenomenon happens after the latest update and even with the latest beta from Designer 1.9.1.952.... My configuration: - Computer: HP EliteBook 8560w (2013) - Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2820QM CPU @ 2.30GHz, 2301 MHz, 4 core(s), 8 logical processor(s) - Main memory: 32GB - Graphics card: NVIDIA Quadro 2000M (driver: 21.21.13.7699) - System drive: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB - Operating system: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (10.0.19042) I don't know what else to do, un these circumstances I cannot continue to work professionally with Affinity products and recommend them with a clear conscience. 4. Hello Tinus, this "Grid artifacts" bug has been around much longer than you might think and I've actually given up asking Affinity Team about it ☹️ My guess: it is very complicated to get the problem under control and requires a complete rewrite of the source code! Because the calculation algorithm is possibly the core of the program and it extends over the whole software range of Affinity!
  5. Hello Chris B, thanks for the suggestion, it works!! It's a bit illogical, because the other filters work without the intermediate step of rasterization, right? .....I actually came across the problem when I used a macro with this filter.
  6. Hello Affinity Team, have discovered a curiosity in the filter (Filters > Noise > Deinterlace > Even Rows & Odd Rows)! As you can see at the beginning of the (Video) example, the deinterlace filter is executed correctly up and down. But as soon as I rotate the image by 90 degrees, the effect of the filter is also rotated by 90 degrees and instead of horizontally, it is executed vertically! For me it looks like a bug! Greeting ChristAlix Filters-Noise-Deinterlace-Even Rows_Odd Rows-Bug_.mp4 EVEN_ODD_.afphoto
  7. Tangential snap, e.g. in Designer becomes a game of patience and the result is everything else, but not tangential. There are already a lot of snap functions but they don't help when, for example, two different circles have to be connected tangentially by a line. It would be a very helpful addition to the already existing snap functions to add tangent, quadrant and parallel snap. Finally, these belong to the basic geometric constructions. tangential_snap_00.mp4
  8. I found the Live Filter Bug "Gaussian Blur" also in the version in Affinity Photo 1.7.1.404, it was not corrected in AP 1.8.x nor in AD 1.8.x
  9. Hello MEB, just for fun I loaded the "Arrow lines_expand stroke_problem_non-destructive_add.afdesign" file into the new 1.8.3.628 beta to see the non-destructive function and it seems that the boolean function has been improved. Most of the bugs have disappeared! Well done, you are definitely on the "right" way of coding!!!!
  10. Hello MEB, here is a "non-destructive compound" version with the same "bad" result. Arrow lines_expand stroke_problem_non-destructive_add.afdesign
  11. Here still in example from me, serves for the collection of the failed Boolean function. I have attached the respective drawing, hopefully it can help with troubleshooting! Arrow lines_expand stroke_problem.afdesign
  12. Hello fde101, thank you for reading my report and thank you for pointing that out. As I have already written in the title, this is a "A wealth of suggestions for improvement from three years of intensive productive use" and not, I have "a" suggestion for improvement here. Also, it's just a little bit confusing to find the right thread(s) for my improvements, because there are many with the same or identical suggestions instead of one consolidated thread per suggestion. But as I said, I have summarized my experiences from the current productive environment here which essentially overlap with the suggestions here in the forum and this as far as possible with many keywords, so that it is easier to find and assign it in the forum. In addition, I think that unfortunately there is still a long way to go before the programme is accepted in the professional sector or really gains a foothold. There is still a lack of proven tools to simply keep up with the (big "A"). But in order to overtake the (big "A") and the consorts, you need not only proven but also more innovative tools! I already have over 25 years of experience in graphic design, GUI design, engineering, software development. I've been a (big "A") customer from the beginning and am forced (by the industry) to stay in the Creative Cloud subscription. I can tell you that my customers ( from the engineering sector) basically only require 5 data formats: 10% Adobe PDF (pdf), Encapsulated PostScript (eps, epsf, ps) 20% Adobe Illustrator (ai, ait) 30% AutoCAD interchange file (dxf) 40% AutoCAD Drawing (dwg) whereby the last three (ai, dwg, dxf) are preferred for the reason of subsequent modification or editing. I use Affinity Designer not because I don't have any alternatives but because I like to think outside the box and it is different and varied from the software I use. And because I can perhaps contribute something to the maturing of the program from the beginning and grow with it. One day I would like to be very happy if a customer would ask me to create an *..afdesign file (as an established format) "of his own accord"!
  13. Hello, walt.farrell, Hello, Mark Ingram, thank you for the note and the detailed explanation. Somehow I probably overlooked this behavior in the "Affinity Designer Help". Ok, I can still handle the " View > Studio etc." but the jumping between the "Swatches" and "Colour" is annoying.
  14. Hello, Sean P., Thanks for the advice, I'll keep that in mind for my next report! For me it was logical to mention the bug here instead of in the beta forum, after all this forum area is about the official release and the betas are not released for productive use.
  15. I don't know if it's already reported here but I'm annoyed by this switching behavior when I switch from "Designer Persona" to "Pixel Persona". When I close the tab "Assests" in "Designer Persona", they still appear in "Pixel Persona". Also the colour tabs on the right side jump between "Swatches" and "Colour". So for my understanding, if I close the "Assets" window in one editing area it should not appear in the other editing area and if I select a colour tab it should not be toggled. 16. Found a problem with the language conversion here. For me personally it is not so tragic. I have already got used to the English version and so have my customers. Besides it is easier to get along here in the forum! I use Win10 German Version and after every update of Affinity products I change the language to "English". Everything works except under the menu "Swatches", color names appear in German. I suppose it is related to the language of the operating system! What to think: For me it would make sense if there was a language selection menu during installation where the operating system language is automatically selected and the user has the choice to install in another language or just click on "Install"! E.g. My colleague always switches the programs to his native language (since operating system is Win10 in English, he works in Germany and his native language is Spanish)! Is logical or?
  17. Hello, Affinity Team, with the new version 1.8.2.620 you have once again done a great job and got Designer more stable. First of all big praise for that! Now to the problem: In the new version 1.8.2.620 I read the point "Fixed several boolean operations and expand stroke issues on simple geometry or compound objects" and was really happy! But after the installation the big disillusionment, "it" is still there! Please try to solve the problem once and for all, I have a lot of work here and can't get any further. I have to export my drawings to Illustrator and edit them there AD_1.8.2.620_expand_stroke_problem.mp4 AD_1.8.2.620_expand_stroke_problem.afdesign
  18. I come from the 3D design environment (Inventor, 3DSMAX, Rhinoceros 3D, Maya, Adobe Illustrator) and have to create very detailed 2D drawings for my clients. My problem was, until the release of Affinity, the zoom factor of Adobe Illustrator and Acrobat Reader (max. 6400%). With PDFs, even if I wanted to, I could not zoom in to the smallest detail (10000 - 100000%) and therefore had to create several detailed drawings of a draft for each presentation. This is of course an expensive and time-consuming task! The zoom problem has been a thing of the past since I started using Affinity Designer, but now there are more requests from me and my customers. Up to now I was able to split a single drawing in a document "as a kind of detail preview" into a whole series of artboads and when I double-clicked on the corresponding artboard it was displayed "full screen" so to speak. This was perfect and saved me a lot of work. Furthermore I was able to inspire my customers for the Affinity Designer and also win them as Affinity customers, because they needed the program like a kind of viewer "in the demo version" and so they entered their design improvements "in the purchase version" as comments in the same document. I also created assets for the customer comments (dimension lines, dimension arrows, text fields, hatched areas etc...) and embedded them directly in the document so that the customers could always work in the same style. So that the font looks the same, I gave them an OpenSource standard font (osifont - IS0 3O98 specification). So far everything works fine. Now to the customer wishes: 1. the dimension lines, which I embedded in the asset are built up horizontally and vertically and do not contain a dynamic value display. So the customer cannot measure anything and has to orientate the dimension lines himself and enter the measured values manually. Drawing of dimensioning including dynamic value display which can be changed afterwards is a welcome addition! 2. also not every customer is an admin and accordingly, the fonts included in the package cannot simply be installed in their operating system. A possibility to embed the font into assets in such a way that they are temporarily mounted into the system at runtime (like the narrow-bed fonts in PDF) would make it easier to distribute or share AD files with customers without pre-installed fonts. And best of all, the ability to install the fonts from within the document at a later date, wow, that's it! Now to my wishes: 3. it would be great if you could create a "New Document" among the document templates even without format limits, i.e. with "infinite" dimension or format less, like in Adobe Illustrator. I know that if I add an artboard, the external document limitation (AD has already implemented it practically) is thus removed. But to do without the limitation from scratch would increase creativity and you can choose the right page format afterwards! With the slogan: Creativity must have no limits! 4. so far AD has only solid colors, gradients and bitmap as fill color, but filling in the form of hatching (45°, 0°, 90°, cross etc...) is missing. This would simplify the tedious creation of hatching and patterns 1000 times. 5. under "Snapping" I also miss that you can set fixed angles and angle steps. It's cumbersome to have to readjust every time in the Transform field. 6. creating diagonal guides with fixed and variable angles or even converting drawn lines into guides would make AD unrivalled in Illustrator. 7. function for drawing dynamic link lines / arrows, e.g. to display (ER-diagrams) data-relationship diagrams is generally missing. 8. as I share my drawings with clients, I would like to protect certain layers, artboards or even the whole document from editing. A password protected function like in Acrobat, that you can protect pages, print function, editing with a password would be useful to protect the "intellectual and artistic property & copyright"! 9. and finally, as already mentioned 100000000 times DXF / DWG import and export function! Now some of you will say that the proposals have already been made and that they are very CAD intensive. And I agree, because Affinity has given us a tool that is not only limited to illustration, font & logo design, but can be used for many different tasks. I personally find newer and newer areas of application in AD, because with each version the horizon of what is possible increases. And let's be honest, every illustrator and designer is also a developer and engineer, these are parallel and not opposites, because one complements the other! If one of you has managed to read all this, my greatest respect with kneeling!!!
  19. Hello Aammppaa, thanks for the brilliant tip, I already forgot that there is this function, because I didn't use it! And thank you that you have dealt with my problem mentally, it is not self-evident that there are people who suggest sensible solutions instead of just giving problems and complaints! I just thought about why I have successfully replaced this useful function with the "view point", and it occurred to me that I have set up the arboards in the "Export Persona" for my customers so that they could be exported individually as PDF files, so I don't have to search the entire document for change notes! For my presentation to the customer audience this "view point" function is perfect and I can save even more time! Thanks a lot!!!!!
