At the moment you can select layers by clicking on them or shift-click to select a set, which is just fine. It would be great to adopt additional common selection paradigms, such as: Shift-down to incrementally select. Shift-up to incrementally deselect. Ctrl-A to select all. Ok, so some of these are already defaulted elsewhere, but it could still be done with key combinations (and I could reassign keys to the functions I use more often). Cheers!

Workaround with flow is still a workaround. My alternative is a Gaussian Blur adjustment, inverted mask, and painted back with white brush. This also shows how opacity should work (and is non-destructive to boot, though not as handy as blur brush for quick fixes).

Opacity on the APh Blur Brush seems not be have any effect. Blurs just the same whatever the setting.

Dialog box moving on image switch
dmstraker replied to dmstraker's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
...also there seems to be one location for a dialog box, even when there are multiple images. Put up say three images in separate tabs. Have a dialog box in each. Move one, then click on tab of another. The dialog box of the switched-to tab moves to the location of the dialog box just moved in previous tab. -
Dialog box moving on image switch
dmstraker replied to dmstraker's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
Tried it on MS Surface. Getting the flash of the box going elsewhere (up and diagonally left) before reappearing in its allotted location (this alone looks kludgey). Looks like there's a bit of code that's trying to move it somewhere and another bit that repaints in back where it should be. Possibly related to two images being of different size? -
Dialog box moving on image switch

Philips 4K 40" above. This is the primary screen. Benq 23" below. (The Philips is vertical against wall and Benq tilted away like a laptop -- very practical arrangement) Edit as described was on Benq. Here's clip of both screens at once: -
Open a couple of images in APh, so they are in separate tabs Bring up a dialog box, say Filters/Apply Image... Switch to the other image Switch back The dialog box now has moved up the screen. Repeat steps 3 and 4 and it happens again...

Extra notes: Sometimes you have to up/down Offset too. And I've also had to click on layer (even though it was already selected).

Here's a really trivial one. But I thought you'd like it. Hover over number field. Roll mouse. It changes number incrementally, one at a time. Cute extra effect: Hold Shift and it moves 10 at a time. And hold Ctrl and it moves 0.1 at a time. But... the Ctrl tweak only works on left Ctrl. Not right Ctrl. On Win10. Microsoft Natural 4000 keyboard. Not losing sleep about this one.

Gotcha. Thanks, Joachim. Very helpful. I've also found that you can recover either by: Stretching the crop tool (only in Develop Persona - extra detail is lost when moving to Photo Persona). Going to Lens tab in Develop Persona and unchecking Lens Profile distortion (exploring on from your useful note). This is also useful to check exactly what default correction is being done. And just for completeness, I've added a video to my InAffinity YouTube channel: Dave Brexit

Custom Blur. Change it so image changes in some way. Apply. Undo (to get back to original image). Custom Blur. Now it starts with the prior transformation applied while the matrix is still at neutral. Not a biggie. Just increase & decrease any cell to force it to repaint. ps. Would be nice to have a 'Reset' button on the Custom Blur to blat all cells back to default.

Look at the attached jpg. Top is photos being viewed in Windows Explorer. Note extent of image selected. eg. top of two towers are well within image. Now look at this as opened in APh 1.7. Left tower is cropped!! Same around the edge of the image elsewhere. This is super-bad news. The photo is 42Mb RAW, taken with a Sony A7R2, and is also attached. _DSC9968.ARW

Do a live maximum blur on an image. Click 'Merge' and the image changes. Rather bothersome...
-
Creating a luminosity mask with Ctrl-Shift-Click on layer icon (as in help system) doesn't seem to be working (though History shows selection from layer enacted). Same thing with Select/Selection from Layer. Both give marquee around the whole image. Quick Mask shows nothing, nor does creating a mask. Tried it with several images and with release and beta versions. Is my brain on holiday or is something up?

Maximum Blur. Click 'Circular'. Zero Radius. A white grid appears.
-
Minimum Blur, turn up Radius. Border of image becomes transparent. Click Preserve Alpha. No change. Cheers!

Orange and Teal
dmstraker replied to Snowcap1's topic in Tutorials (Serif and Customer Created Tutorials)
I've done a whole set of tutorials on this on my InAffinity YouTube channel. Try the first one for 'what it's all about'. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOnLUmyPHr2rayOHVHWsHVw/search?query=teal+and+orange As Cecil says, it's a matter of taste. Use it deliberately and because it works in a given image, not just because everyone else is using it. -
300th InAffinity YouTube tutorial
dmstraker replied to dmstraker's topic in Tutorials (Serif and Customer Created Tutorials)
I started with Affinity Photo after years of struggling with Photoshop. The official tutorials gave me a great start. I then started reading everything I could get about photo editing and watching lots of videos. Mostly Photoshop, but much is the same. I also just kept experimenting, trying random stuff to see what happened. And I'm still learning (producing videos is good for this too!). Power comes from play and practice. Don't worry -- you'll get there! -
APh: Channel right-click text size
dmstraker replied to dmstraker's topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on Windows threads
Definitely happening. Experimenting gives more info: Two screens, one 40" 4K and one 23" 1920 23" is primary screen, 40" secondary 40" has Windows Settings/Display at 150% (23" is 100%) When APh window is on 40" screen, all is well However (and here's the bug), when the APh window is on 23" screen, right-clicking in Channel tab gives too-big text. In other words, on the primary display the Channels tab text sizing in APh is picking up the Windows scaling factor from the secondary display. Other tabs I tried are working correctly. @Chris B? -
Different beta logo?
dmstraker replied to dmstraker's topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on Windows threads
That's the ticket! -
I run normal APh and beta and sometimes it's confusing which is which. It would be neat if there was a different logo for beta versions - maybe just with an overlaid beta. Applicable for operating system display and when the programme is running. Could help resolve confusion when bugs are reported, too.
