But I'll bet you'll find that it pretty much does what Photoshop does and that it's light years ahead of Gimp. If it helps (although they are only in English), there are a couple of introductory guides out there:
    http://www.russellcottrell.com/photo/PhotoLine/downloads/PhotoLineTutorial.pdf
    http://evrencomert.com/PhotoLine.htm
I do know of people who use the old Photoshop CS2 with Wine rather than use Gimp.

I installed Photoline to see what it's all about.
Seems pretty solid from what little I've seen, but man, that interface is like stepping back into 1998.

Would really appreciate a Linux port. The image below was my first piece composited with Affinity and was quite proud of the results. The raster/vector interoperability was such a huge workflow improvement. But I got tired of Windows and switched up to Linux (Elementary OS) and haven't turned back. After that my works were then composited with GIMP but with severe limitations. Adjustment layers are still not implemented in GIMP, so editing is destructive for the most part. Using GIMP/Inkscape isn't always perfect but I'm doing what I can.

Personal project. Almost entirely done with Adesigner. Thanks to the new 1.9 feature Antialiasing control. Thanks to Aphoto and new pattern layer.

Yup. I've been checking on Akira for a bit now. Looks promising, but it's still very, very early days for it.

I think the best way to think about it is that macOS and Linux are Unix-like cousins but are not identical twins. Not only does macOS have separate BSD origins, its kernel and graphics stack are completely different so what will work on macOS will not work on Linux and vice versa.
Therefore, if someone really needs to have Affinity products for their work then the only options are Windows or macOS or Linux but only using either of the two other operating systems in a virtual machine which takes up extra system resources.

The images show you've a good eye for detail and spatial awareness. Also Gaussian blurs on top of each other and such are techniques that raise artwork above the proverbial 'flat' art most artists create. Layered (stacked) effects give better results. Great achievement for someone who is in the process of becoming acquainted with AD.

There are a lot of hoops you have to jump through to be able to vote on the WINE page, hence why even the most popular apps on the site have fairly low numbers.
If you want a better example of how big the WINE scene actually is, it's better to hit up ProtonDB.

Lovely map! I've been wanting to make some fantasy-style maps for people as gifts in Designer at some point.
As far as the difference in spelling... There's a more passive aggressive reason for the different spellings. The short version: When compiling his American dictionary, Noah Webster chose spellings not typically used in British spelling. (Although British spelling wasn't entirely standardized back then anyway, which probably made it easier for him to pull this off.) He did this to differentiate American English from British English. And our language  has had this contrived divide in it ever since. Some will argue that Webster merely chose spellings that he personally preferred, but Webster was a smart guy, close to the founders, and my opinion is that he did nothing without consideration. I mean, there's not much that's less random than a guy cataloging an entire language. It requires mad organization, attention to detail, and frankly, obsession.
Anyway, I still prefer "grey" to "gray." And the u's don't bother me at all. But then, I'm an English lit major.

I've been dabbling with Linux about 4-5 years now. Been committed to it for about a month. For the most part, it's all a bunch of techy folk who like having full access to tweak their computers, always willing to help out someone who needs it.
...but on occasion, you'll be sitting there, minding your own business, when some guy who uses HURD pops up out of nowhere and tries to shiv you. They're rare, but they're around.
I'm gonna guess that they're considering the unforeseen circumstances. Like say they run this campaign, get their funding, gather a ton of goodwill from the community. The hype is huge. Everyone's all stoked about getting a good Photoshop alternative on Linux.
...and after a year, they find they just can't get it to work. We have Affinity on Linux, but it's a janky, buggy mess. No one's happy. Feelings are hurt. Serif takes a hit to their PR.
Now like I said, the chances of this happening are about slim to none. If they can get the program to work on Mac and Windows, they can get it to work on Linux with the same amount of time and effort. But considering how they're already pretty shy even talking about adding features to their already existing codebase unless they're 95% finished, and 99% certain it'll end up in the next point release, I imagine they spend a lot of time fretting over the what-if's, and probably wouldn't be too keen on throwing their support behind something they themselves aren't 100% sure of.

I decided to play with the Equinoxe cover reproductions. Post-production is done in Affinity Photo, but before that, everything in Affinity Designer.

Years ago, around 1997 I used to work for a repro company based in Nottingham as a graphic designer, illustrator, photo retoucher, drum scanner operator and loads of other stuff. Occasionally we used to output all the film separations and run match print proofs for the Serif Page Plus box artwork, as Serif where apparently based just around the corner from us (I never found out exactly where. we where on St Peters street in the Radford area) one of the Serif team would drop round a floppy disc with a PRN file??? - we where Mac based although we did have an artwork PC which prob got switched on twice a year, but Serif would always pop a floppy with a PRN file over to us and one of the repro guys would run it straight to the Hyphen image setter, to film and then make Matchprint proofs - I remember one time when we where a bit under staffed, I was on match prints and making Page Plus box proofs - I had a PC at home and did have page plus which compared to QuarkXpress 3.1 which was the industry standard at the time, was really deep whereas quark was very bare bones and super expensive but rock solid - One time my boss wheeled in the artwork PC and said "got a little job for you" and explained that the folk at Serif where thinking of doing a vector artwork package similar to Xara which he handed me to install on the PC - Serif wanted to know what we thought of it - once I had a play around I thought it was brilliant, and the first thing I asked my boss was if they would do a version for the mac, which he said that he asked the same question and they said they had no immediate plans but there may be a possibility in the future, I said they'd make a killing as at the time, we where using Macromedia Freehand 7 for all vector artwork which didn't do a few things that xara did - anyway I went out and bought xara a few days later and the first thing I had a crack at was this MEAT BOIST t-shirt design and shortly after I moved over my home setup to the Mac and have never found a way to open the few xara files I'd worked on - tried again today to find a way, and gave up so thought I'd have a go at re-creating a similar design Designer (see attached all vector)
One of the first things I did when I found out that Adobe where moving over to the subscription model, was email Serif saying they'd make a killing if they would port the Plus suite over to mac, they did reply with thanks for your interest... we have no plans to port over to the mac - I was left with nowhere to turn but use old Adobe stuff until - DESIGNER - what a set of fibbers, they must have been working on designer at the time!
