  1. Oh, and just to add, some of the most bulletproof logo designs work in black&white to start with
  2. I think the best logos strip away any superfluous detail. Ask yourself if the plug was completely absent from the centre of the sun, could you use the other shapes to simultaneously convey a sun AND a plug… because those sun rays could easily become the prongs of a plug…
  3. This sounds like something that happened to me a while ago… my gut feeling is it’s not a bug, there could be a ‘live’ selection, or something like wet brush setting you’re not aware is on 🤷🏻‍♂️
  4. Are you treating the surface area of the badge like a ‘window ‘? And is it important to maintain the exact appearance of the original scanned drawing of the badge?
  5. A video showing the process I use to clean up a character design for logo/ mascot. Using combinations of Pen, Stroke settings, Corner Tool, and Geometry subtractions. The final version would involve removing any white elements, a few more geometry subtractions, and making sure all strokes are expanded before Adding all paths together. I can also see a few design choices… like making sure his feet are flat if I spent more time on it, if it wasn’t a demo(I like bending curves) ☺️ Hope you like, let me know what you think, or if there are any questions IMG_2551.MOV
  6. If you’re more concerned with the end result looking good, I’d use a combination of the Pen and Smooth corner tool. Alternatively, you could use the Pencil with a Rope Stabiliser, and used the stroke graph in advanced settings to get a nice, tapered line
  7. This is a process breakdown video to show what method I use to colour and finish a character concept in Affinity Designer on iPad. I’ll start with the main outline, adding extra line details, and then filling in colour using gradients (no brushes) IMG_2546.MOV
  8. Playing around with some lighting effects, using mostly gradients and a couple of Gaussian blurs in Designer
  9. Going through the routes mentioned above is probably your best bet. Sometimes you just have to go through a painstaking process to find what your looking for. (Or you could always do by hand - old school)
  10. I have to say, the iPad versions are very robust, loads of features comparable to desktop, and leagues ahead of Adobe
  11. Don’t have my iPad in front of me, but you should be able to at least copy and paste from Photos, or import from within Affinity Photo
  12. Are you copying and pasting directly onto a blank canvas, or into a text box (if it’s the latter, then that’s pretty strange…)
  13. Are you sticking with flood/magic wand tool to make your selections, or have you tried using Channels?
  14. Well, Serif are the only real competition for Adobe, so hope they’re around for a long time. And I don’t know if I’ve sung it’s praises enough, but the last major update to Designer for iPad was excellent, a truly portable piece of design software👌, streets ahead of the Illustrator app
  15. Don’t know where else to post this, but had a suggestion for the forums. Would be good to see a few more areas for general discussion in art & design, reacting to things in the news etc
  16. I’m getting William Morris vibes
  17. I’ve had a few of my character designs printed in the past, and if you find a really good giclée printer, it can be well worth it.
  18. A string graphic for the monkey 👌
  19. Separate shapes and strokes; so I’ll start with the overall outline and ‘fill-in’ with solid colour layers beneath
  20. Off the top of my head, I think you’re best to create a precise grid of squares over the entire image (you can construct as strokes and convert to grid), then create multiple copies of the overall image equal to the amount of tiles, then crop - export each part of the grid multiple times. The tiles should align afterwards
