when you mention Mesh, two things come to mind:

    • Mesh to distort vector shapes/text
    • Mesh to work with colors

The one in your screenshots refers to the second one, right?

    Best regards!

Yes, I was talking to Ash about Mesh Fills, not geometry distortion/warping... They're obviously very similar concepts, but a mesh fill has less consequences for the document structure and rendering so is easier to slide in without any architecture changes...

Is there a reason why Presets were not included in this release of Designer like we have in Photo Beta 1.9.0.196?

I think there's some work to do in this area, so it is removed for now - the reaction in the Photo Beta was that it should be implemented differently, so I thought it was best not to include it and have it as a distraction at this point :)

"Select same" for me will be the best...

Please introduce select "all text objects", even if them are grouped or blocked.

That will increase the workflow for me when I have to convert text in curves.

    Thanks, great job!!!

You can *nearly* do this already - I split out text objects into the main types: Art Text, Frame Text, Path Text, so you currently have to choose which type of text you'd like to select, but it does as you'd expect - traverses the whole document and selects those objects wherever they are, whether they're locked or not

Do you need the 'all' text option still?

    Hello,

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the first build of Affinity Designer 1.9.0 for macOS.

If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.

This beta is significantly different from the 1.8.4 version available for purchase - we strongly recommend that you do not use this beta for real work as data could be lost and the files you save are not guaranteed to open in previous / future versions of Affinity Designer.

Thanks again for your continued support!

    Many thanks!

    Matt

    Changes Since 1.9.0

    - Contour tool.
    - Select Same / Select Object functionality. I'm happy to consider requests for extra options, so if you have a favourite, just say...
    - Improved performance with large documents. I will aim to improve this further over time.
    - Added a new “Divide” blend mode.
    - Allowed snapping to the bounds of the pixel selection.

PLEASE NOTE: This build is identical to 1.8.4.4 except it should have operational toolbar buttons in macOS Big Sur. If you are not using Big Sur, you do not need to update (but there is no harm in doing so) :)

    Hello,

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of Affinity Designer Beta 1.8.4.5 for macOS.

If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry.

This beta is an incremental update to the 1.8.3 version currently available in the store to all customers (though it installs parallel to the release). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below.

    Many thanks!

    Matt

    Changes Since 1.8.4.4

    - Fix for toolbar buttons not working properly in macOS Big Sur.

    Changes Since 1.8.4.3

    - Fix for undesirable shapes being created when dragging the start/end nodes of a shape on top of each other to close the shape. (hi @abn5x!!!)
    - macOS Big Sur operation and visual style improvements.
    - Improved margin and bleed presets for documents.

    Changes Since 1.8.3

    - Fix for incorrect rendering of grids in OpenGL past certain zoom levels.
    - Fix for poor functioning of 'Force Touch' trackpads in pressure-sensitive tools.
    - Speculative fix for occasional lockups in Pencil Tool.
    - Added option in preferences to re-enable the old behaviour for deleting objects (we used to previously favour empty selections).
    - Added ability to show folders as icons in the layers panel.
    - Added option to always show folders as “small” in the layers panel.
    - Improved dragging behaviour in the layers panel (make it easier to drag child items around within their container without affecting parenting).
    - PDF import performance improvements.
    - Document save performance improvements.
    - Text performance improvements.
    - Assorted small bug fixes.
    - Fix for 'Expand Strokes' failing to consider 'velocity' as a width controller.
    - Fix for focus issues when tabbing between text entry fields in the Colour panel with Text objects selected.
    - Fix for operation of Command+Right-Click on an object to show the tree hierarchy of the selected node.
    - Allow certain documents created on Windows to open correctly (if the document contained a saved reference to exporting as Windows GDI formats).
    - Help improvements.
    - Localisation improvements.

  6. Sorry about this Big Sur issue everyone - we thought it was all working great, but when compiled with Xcode 11 it still shows the problem (the fix was tested on Big Sur, with an Affinity build compiled with Xcode 12, which has support for Big Sur but is still in Beta). We are working on a Xcode 11 compatible fix and will hopefully update very soon with this :)

  8. Hi rodsal23,

There are lots of users here and they will have lots of opinions, so if you're after an opinion then everyone here is qualified and hopefully will contribute. But asking 'Is this good enough?' is a pretty tricky one to answer in all honesty. You always have to remember that art is about personal expression and if you think it's good enough then you've done well. You can't honestly ask 'Is this good enough to sell one day?' because there are so many different styles of art that people will pay for (entire canvas in just one solid colour for example, right through to classic paintings) that it's an impossible one to answer. Your character/style appears to be fairly simplistic, but so is the art style of Hey Duggee ad Peppa Pig, and their art is valuable and instantly recognisable - attributes true of any other piece of great art, so simplicity is not a limiting factor in any way.

Personally, I'd be more inclined to say that I'd like to see the character expanded upon - different situations, different characters to interact with, that kind of thing - on its own and out of context it doesn't mean a lot to me? But that's just my opinion :)

Definitely keep at it and make sure that *you* are happy with your work, that *has* to be the first step and it should definitely be your goal. If you can later make money from something you enjoy, then that's great, but you almost certainly couldn't make money from something you didn't personally think was good enough :)

The above was 5 1/2 years ago, this was from a request for offset path. It's still not in the software.

This is already written and checked in to the codebase for 1.9 so you can expect to use it in Beta very soon.

Sorry for all the waiting for stuff, but as you quite rightly suggest, people should definitely buy things based on what they are, not what they hope they will one day be.
