  1. Hahaha, not intentional - I just seem to think in a slightly broken way nowadays ;)
  2. As usual, these images are impeccable - well done!
  3. I definitely share your thinking on a lot of the elements in your image :) With regards to flicking between Personas - are there many functions you needed from Pixel Persona, or just a few?
  4. The File -> Export dialog should remember which type you last used, so that next time it is initialised correctly. The Export Persona has a 'Defaults' option in the Export Options panel that let you specify the default output types you'd like to use when creating export areas/slices. However, if you mean the 'default file type' of the application itself then it will always be '.afdesign', our native file format (i.e. what you get when you press 'Save'). Designer expresses things in different ways to other applications so you'd lose so much information if your export was always to a non-native file format.
  5. Designer and Photo read exactly the same files. The only reason one uses a .afdesign and the other uses a .afphoto extension is simply so that we know which application you made it in, so when you click to open it, we'll launch the right application. 1.5 Photo is fully compatible with 1.5 Designer. 1.5 Photo will hit the App Store as an update very soon. In the meantime, you can definitely just download the Affinity Photo Beta 1.5 (which is currently at Release Candidate status) and use it until the App Store version gets updated :)
  6. There's no way to undo it I'm afraid, but 1.5 of Affinity Photo should be in the App Store very soon... also, you could use the 1.5 Photo Beta from this forum right now :)
  7. Sorry about this, it's actually an erroneous error message! Oooh, the irony! ;) Everything's fine, but we're accidentally saying there was a problem - we'll get it sorted out asap! :)
  8. I'm closing this thread now as I think it has come to the end of its useful purpose. People enjoy different things and work in different ways. What works for one person may not work for another, that's why most software has a trial version so you can see if it works for you before buying it (the Windows Designer Trial will be along shortly). Thanks to everyone who has contributed for their thoughts. For the record, looking at the screenshot BONES (whose personal website, created in Xara is here) posted, I can't imagine how a primarily landscape-oriented package such as Combustion works for portrait documents as there's too much vertical height used by the UI, but hey, that's just me. I'm sure that for other people it would work fine.
  9. Okay, I understand that you do not like Designer's UI, and other people do not like the UI that you like - that's all fine and everyone gets to make their own mind up. Awesome. But there's no need to suggest that just because somebody doesn't see the beauty you see (from your perspective as someone who has used the product deeply over a long time - so perhaps not what a user would find if they came to it fresh?) that they are wrong and hence responsible for every other UI you see that you don't like: I don't think that's fair or helpful.
  10. Then we've messed something up... :( I'll get this looked into - I'm really sorry for the meantime and we'll try to get it working again asap... :(
  11. SOOOO EXCITED!!! Send me an email and I'll send you some cash for my copy! :D There's definitely been a couple of other kids books drawn in Designer, but yours is the first with Strawberry Monkey and Giraffe for certain! ;) Crossing my fingers for you with the publishers - sometimes it's the little things that catch their eye and then when your foot is through the door you can start a proper dialog with them :) Matt
  12. The App Store version added RightFont integration - but it did not add support for automating RightFont to install missing fonts from your document. Instead, it added the ability to single-click in RightFont to change the selected text items in Affinity Designer to be the font you clicked in RightFont and it should also now work properly to be able to drag a font from RightFont into Affinity Designer. Is that not working for you? :) Matt
  13. To be utterly clear, we did things our own way and during our initial beta phase we changed substantial features and functionality to cater for user requests - and if you're wondering where our initial inspiration comes from, you're much better off looking at some of the conventions we actually introduced ourselves in DrawPlus over the years... Our application is designed to be familiar to AI users, but it fundamentally does things in a more user-focused, more interactive and fun way.
  14. In Designer's Paintbrush Tool (Pixel Persona), just select 'Protect Alpha'. Done. Not everybody works in the same way so I'm happy that you have found an application that works for you, but to start saying we're 'clumsy' because we don't do something that we do actually do is unfair. The whole point of the Affinity suite is that you match them all together and you have a FULL photo-editor inside a FULL vector editor - nobody else offers that. Designer is meant to be your vector illustration tool and raster starting-point. If you need more pixel-stuff, you need Photo and then just clicking one button toggles the document and all of its undo history into the other application. I thought that was quite compelling myself? Seriously, have you seen Paolo's illustrations and paintings - he's more than a bit good and he owns just about every painting software in the world ever, so if he's using Affinity then I'll take that as a good sign... ;)
  15. Hi Thomas, This has been mentioned before - but I would agree that the forum's search functions are very poor so I'm not surprised if you couldn't find it! There's no reason why we couldn't add CDR import in the future - it should be an easier format than the .fh FreeHand import that we added a while back, it's just down to prioritising development tasks. The more times people ask for it, the more likely it is to be flagged as a priority task. Expect it to happen in the future, but I can't say for certain when.... Thanks again, Matt
  16. Hi Mirage091, Welcome to the forums :) I think I spotted this answered elsewhere and it's actually all down to the fact that we try to offer the same product for the same price on Mac and Windows. Basically, Apple have a pricing matrix where you only get the opportunity to set the $USD price and then they specify the local price in all other territories off their matrix. In some territories it works out better than others and I know it can seem unfair or a strange decision, but if you can at least understand it from our perspective that we have no way on Mac to specify the price in anything other than $USD so in order to make a uniform price for Windows or Mac then we have to follow that matrix with our own Windows pricing too... Hope that explains why you're seeing what you're seeing? Thanks :) Matt
  17. Top quality, professional photography there - really well done! :)
  18. It can have Colour Opacity (i.e. set the opacity from the colour panel). The whole object gets Transparency (as applied by the Transparency tool) or layer opacity (as applied from the Layers panel). Hope that makes sense? :) Matt
  19. This definitely works in the Windows version - you hold down Ctrl while in the Pen Tool and you can access all the functionality of the Node Tool. If it's not working for you then we have a bug somewhere. Can we ask what your keyboard setup is? (US/UK/DE/FR?) With respect to the Xara thing, I was trying to keep quiet for a change (everyone knows I worked there when we were making Xara X back in 2001-ish) and it was a great piece of software - but they got rid of their development team as soon as we launched the software and as a result it hasn't really changed much over the years :( Thanks! Matt
  20. Utterly adorable! I like it LOTS!!! :D
