  1. After making a rounded rectangle, go to the context toolbar and uncheck the box that says "Single radius" and you should now have control over each corner's radius :) Thanks, Matt
  2. It should work exactly as you'd expect... Select multiple objects, go to the Node Tool (if you weren't in it already) and select a node, then hold shift and click another node to add it to the selection - that node can be on the same curve or on a totally different one - they will all select and all will move when you drag them around. You can marquee select the nodes across all selected shapes by just dragging a rectangle in the node tool over the nodes you're interested in. There is currently no polygonal lasso selection yet - but there will be. Hope this helps :) Matt
  3. We'll definitely consider it. It's very easy to change, but very difficult to make them look right! In my head, nodes are just squares and off-curve handles are circles. That's why it was the way it was... I added triangles because they were obviously neither squares or circles and they were sharp (as cusp nodes often are), so that's why they're triangles. Then it was a decision about what to do with smart nodes - so I used circles because which I'm not sure looks great... ...you could always use Affinity Designer to mock up the design you'd like and just send me the file? ;)
  4. Hi, I'm really glad you're enjoying Affinity Designer! :) I know that we've already had requests for RTL support and we'll definitely do it, but there are a number of other things which also must be done as a priority, so I'm not sure when it will be added, sorry... I know that it is actually quite difficult to implement, so definitely won't suddenly appear any time soon... Thanks again, Matt
  5. Santa Claus does exist though, surely!?! We can prove it too - the Freehand import is working really well at the moment and if you have any files you want me to test it against, then just send them over to support@seriflabs.com and we can make sure it works properly :) We'll obviously treat any files confidentially and they will be deleted after we've validated the import - we could even try to send you a .afdesign version back so you can use that file in Designer right now! I'm going to work on Expand Stroke in a bit and also being able to use the pasteboard and see the objects on it soon. We already have functioning text wrapping (see my video here) but it's an Affinity Publisher feature so you'll need Publisher in order to activate the attribute on objects (although Designer will open and edit the document with wrapping working correctly, obviously). Text flow is yet to be added - but again it's really a Publisher thing... Text along paths will be added to Designer after launch as a free update. I've never liked a broad 'roughen' effect - it always does the wrong thing in my experience (never quite what I wanted), so I think we might add a roughen tool that you rub over the areas of curve to roughen, and then also a smooth tool that smooths out curve segments that you apply it to: At least this way you have full control. Warping will also be added after launch as a free update, as will Pantone and professional print output. Thanks for all your kind comments - really glad you're enjoying using Designer! :) Matt
  6. We'll certainly be looking at this and doing our best in the coming months... Glad you're enjoying Designer so far! :)
  7. We haven't implemented arrowheads on lines yet, nor have we got dashed lines yet. Both of these will be added to our renderer soon and come as free updates after launch. DrawPlus is a completely different program with a 10+ year old codebase - we started from scratch with Affinity, so they are not compatible. This was done for essential reasons, rather than crippling the new product with inherent limitations. If you want to exchange files between the two then it would be best achieved through SVG/PDF/EPS :)
  8. Hi Chris, I think we need a bit of information first... Did you design in CMYK (go to Affinity Designer's File menu and choose Document Setup and see what colour format it is in). Did you set up any non-standard colour profiles? I would definitely expect to be able to just select the gradient-filled rectangle in the background, choose the Gradient Fill tool and edit it - does that not work? Thanks, Matt
  9. Hi George, That's still on my list of things to do - sorry! I'll get to it as soon as I can :) Matt
  10. Hi Everyone, Great to have you on board! :) I'm sure your experience is going to really help us during the beta (and after!) so I look forward to your input. We're aiming to move out of beta (hopefully) around mid-September, but the official date is October (just so nobody gets too disappointed if we're not finished as soon as we're hoping!) and we'll make sure that the product is rock solid and genuinely productive before deciding it's ready. At that point, we'll release it on the Mac App Store - estimated price is £35/$50. The App Store version allows us to turn on iCloud load/save which is a very handy way to work with your files across multiple devices, so is a nice feature to have... Until then, please enjoy the beta and let us know how you're getting on with it - we'll do our best to make it as enjoyable as possible :) Matt
  11. I think Ben is looking at overhauling snapping - it already has a lot of functionality, but most of it was disabled for beta because it wasn't quite right, so I think (hope!) you'll be pleasantly surprised when he's had a look at it and re-enables it in all its glory! :) Thanks, Matt
  12. I'm not sure what you mean? Everything in Affinity is live and there are 3 different pen modes available from the context toolbar - does one of the other modes do what you're thinking of? If not, is there any chance you could describe the interaction? :) Thanks, Matt
  13. Command key should already work as you described, if I'm understanding you correctly?
  14. Sounds great to me! :D We're also extremely excited about getting everything released and into the hands of customers - it's always really rewarding to see the work people come out with!
  15. Just use the Pen Tool and start dragging from the on-curve node and you'll be dragging out a new smooth node in place of the old cusp node. You don't need to hold any modifiers - the Alt modifier actually forces it to be a cusp! Hope that helps :) Matt
  16. Not for this version, sorry. I'm already typing as fast as I can! :S (I'll consider it for the future though - thanks!)
  17. Hi Raymondo, User interface and style is always open to interpretation, so I'm not going to comment on that other than to say that we're not aiming to be a visual clone of Illustrator. However, I can definitely answer your last point - by default we only select objects completely contained by your selection marquee, whereas Illustrator selects those that are touched by your selection marquee... both have merits... so we included a modifier key that toggles the behaviour: Hold down Ctrl during your drag and you'll start selecting items that are touched by the marquee, just like Illustrator. I might make this a global preferences for those who are too used to Illustrator's methods... Thanks, Matt
  18. I'm actually going to add the notion of an 'active' side of the view (just draw the little labels on that side of the splitter in a more prominent way) and the ability to click the label to bring out a small menu to allow you to choose what type of view you'd like to see on that side of the screen, if that makes sense? :) It's still just a bit work-in-progress, but needed a bit of testing - plus, I wanted you all to see it! :) Matt
  19. ...and... yes, you can now Join Curves in the current beta. It's on the Node Tool's context toolbar. However, the reason I didn't spring straight into life and declare it boldly is because it's the most basic implementation possible, at present... It simply works through the curves in order and adds the start of each curve to the end of the curve before it. I nearly finished doing the proper method that recursively finds the closest start/end pair of all curves and joins them together, but didn't get it done in time, so just abandoned and went for the simple approach so I didn't let you down! I'm about to start typing again with the proper version :) Thanks, Matt
  20. Well, I can definitely say that we're super-glad you didn't give up! Really looking forward to seeing more little eejits appearing in the future! :D
  21. Hi retrograde, I must confess that I've always had so many other things to do that this one has been constantly floating just below the top so I haven't done it yet - which leaves me currently feeling very guilty. I've still got 4 or 5 hours before I need to build the next beta, so I'll start typing now and see where I get to (although I also have to run my eye over the changes to the Pen Tool that have been made and will also hopefully be in this new beta version) :S Will let you know how I get on! Matt
  22. It's one vector object that forms the outline of the head: It has a black variable width line and a green brush fill. By putting the pixel layers inside it as children, they draw in between the vector object's background (green) and the vector object's foreground (its black line), which is exactly the effect you want. No extras required :) Give it a go when you get home - it'll all make sense :) ...and if you ever fancy sending a .afdesign file my way that'd be great to have a look at, thanks! :)
