Hilary, on the context toolbar of the Pencil or Brush tool make sure you have the 'Controller' set to 'Automatic' or 'Pressure' - by default it is set to 'None' so you won't get pressure no matter how hard you try! ;)

First thing's first... what do you mean by 'new vector brush'? Do you mean when you click 'New vector brush' in the brush manager's 'Presets' tab? If so, it does work, but the short answer is that all of this is going to change... Or, do you mean that you're trying to make a new textured brush that works on a vector path? If so, choose to make a new Colour brush (if it's a photo/colour image you're making it from) or Intensity brush if you're making something like a paint stroke. Both of these will work - but again, the whole Brush Manager dialog needs changing at this point. :)

Ah, I see... I wonder if your document is in RGB or some other mode? (go to Document Setup on the File menu) :)

Great work, Hilary! I'm also really glad you're up and running with your tablet and looking forward to seeing more! :)

Hey, that looks great - see, you didn't even need a blend tool! :) (just kidding, sorry!) ;) -
Haha! Nice perspective on the towers and very atmospheric :)

Tool UI size.
MattP replied to artyr's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
The UI size applies to anywhere in the tools that we draw some UI elements on the screen - the size of the select tool handles, node/pen tool points and fill tool handles, for example :) -
Auto Selections of Fields when Clicking

Oooh, I didn't know it did that - sounds completely sensible to me, I'll mention it this morning :) -

Hi retrograde, Just a quick response to say that the icons are still in development - join and close are actually the same at the moment! Also, the Pen Tool used to constrain to 8-axis when you clicked or dragged to create - but this was recently removed as part of Ben's overhaul of snapping/constraining - Ben will put it back in very soon. Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime :( The marquee behaviour you're mentioning does need looking at. Thanks, Matt -
lol, no you're not alone - I agree there's a lot that could be added (and will be) but it is a delicate balance between looking nice, being helpful or offering too much information and intimidating the user. :)

That sounds really cool - I like it! :) -
pen tool

Definitely not in the beta - they will be added at some point, but they aren't high up the list because there are already different ways to achieve the same effect. -
pen tool
MattP replied to kat's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
You have to break the path (on the context toolbar for the node/pen tool) first, then delete the node :) It will break at the selected handle, or if none is selected it will break at the start/end handle -
The function that I'm still in the middle of writing is the one that converts varying width vector lines into filled polygons - and it's this one that you need in order to be able to export your varying width strokes as vectors... so because it doesn't exist in the beta version yet, those lines are getting rendered to bitmaps as PDF doesn't have the notion of a varying width line. This should update in time to work correctly :)

Node Tool
MattP replied to adirondackmoose's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Sorry, I should've been clear - yes, I meant the notion of drag direction inferring which handle you meant to drag. I think we could do it without too much hassle - we're always more concerned with user experience than with how tricky it is too implement :) -

...this is kind of what I was thinking :) -

Hi Matthias, Request 2) sounds like a good idea and can go in soon, also request 3) is already on the list of things to do. The only reason request 1) isn't in there already is just that you don't know which handle to start dragging out the first time - the one before the node, or the one after it? I'll have a think about it - I think there might be an answer and I'm just pondering on it... Thanks, Matt -
AI and PDF import are nearly there to be honest, but we held off including them in the beta yesterday and will do so until we are happy with them: There's no point us giving beta testers something which we know isn't right yet because all we'll do is make work for the active testers and also a lot of people will not visit the forum, just try out the feature and spot the things we know aren't ready yet and then not bother with the product again - even though we would've got it all working shortly afterwards!

Node Tool
MattP replied to adirondackmoose's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hi JG, If you came from the Move Tool to the Node Tool by pressing A, then A will go back to the Move Tool again :) Also, as soon as snapping is working properly (hopefully next week) the Move Tool will move your object and snap its nodes to other objects, guides and curve nodes (depending on what you've selected in the snapping preferences) so you won't need your nodes to be selected in the Node Tool to be moving them around :) I think Ben is probably better suited to provide a more considered response as he's currently rewriting snapping, I just wanted to reassure you that (fingers-crossed) both of the things you mention will not cause you issues for much longer, but without the need for all nodes to be selected automatically when you enter the Node Tool: I have to confess that this single thing is the one that I always think of when I think about Illustrator - I find it so frustrating - I literally shout at the screen pretty much every time! :( Thanks, Matt -
"Do you wanna draw a snowman?..." ;) Looks great! Olaf is awesome - we watch him pretty much every single day at the moment as my son is addicted to Frozen!

I hope we can make a product good enough you can say that too, Krollian! :D (and maybe one day we'll even get your signature updated to say 'Affinity forever!' - tee hee!)
