Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.0.21212)
MattP replied to MattP's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
Hi edge07, Can you tell me what things you're actually doing when you get all these crashes with the beta? - because it's really quite stable for my use... There are millions of lines of code and if I don't know what to look at, how can I fix it? Thanks, Matt -
Hey, that's a nice idea! :)
-
Are they purple lines, or red lines? Do you have 'show snapping candidates' turned on in the snapping options?

Eyedropper tool applies incorrect colour
MattP replied to Cam's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
You're quite right - that seems wrong, sorry... :( -
Alignment
MattP replied to Konspaul's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hi Konspaul, Just choose one of the alignment types first (i.e. align left, centre, etc) then the options for alignment will be available :) Thanks, Matt -
File size changes
MattP replied to Gear maker's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
You wouldn't believe how much work has gone into our file format - it's really a spectacular thing, but it sounds like there's a small issue there because I wouldn't expect a simple Save operation on an unmodified file to do anything at all to the file size - there's nothing to write... You'll notice some other weird things if you watch the file size carefully, after a while it'll get small on its own again, then grow, then reduce again... It's a carefully designed system that gives us performance and some level of being able to recover files. Save As stores a new version of this file, starting from scratch so it has no extra data in it, which is why it may appear smaller. I'm sure Ben will be along later to explain things better as he designed and implemented it, but I'll mention this issue to him and see what he says... -
Selecting Objects and Strokes
MattP replied to puggerspaniel's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
Perhaps our approach when dealing with polycurve objects is flawed? (Polycurves are obviously when a single shape is formed from many separate curves - as is the case here)... I'll look at the logic - in your case I can see where you'd not want our current behaviour. Thanks for attaching the file - it shows the problem clearly :) -
Transform History Navigator bar lost
MattP replied to Gear maker's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
That is very random - I can't confirm the same behaviour here, but your video illustrates it perfectly. I do, however, get another crazy behaviour that is obviously wrong and may be related, so I'll have a chat with Andy Tang when he gets in and I'm sure he'll be able to sort it out no problem :) Thanks for the reports! :) -
Cats will be cats. WARNING! partial avian nudity.
MattP replied to denironaut's topic in Share your work
I think that's utterly amazing - is there any chance you'd consider sending me the file so I can drool over it?!?! :))) It's obviously fine if you'd prefer not to, but if you don't mind then I'd really love to see it! My email is mpriestley at seriflabs.com - I'll obviously not use the file for anything other than pawing over it! :) -
Don't let go of that pillar, Kevin - don't let go!!! ;)

Hi Hokusai, Are you using the Mac App Store version or the latest beta? The latest beta build fixes this issue - it's simply that the default colours for the document were always made from the HSL versions of their colours, whereas now each document initialises with an appropriate colour from its own colour format. If I create a new CMYK document, switch to the line fill context and change colour models to CMYK I can see that the colour is now 0,0,0,100. In the version you're using you can simply choose the CMYK colour you expected and everything will obviously be fine, but the document defaults were obviously wrong but have now been fixed. Hope that helps, Matt

The forum strikes again! It foxed me too, initially! Just click the 'More reply options' button and at the bottom of that page you'll see the option to upload and attach files :) -
Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.0.21212)
MattP replied to MattP's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
Hahaha, I thought you might like that one! ;) -
Purpose: Improvements, Features, Fixes Status: Beta Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer Mac App Store: Not submitted Download: https://s3.amazonaws...stomer Beta.dmg To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it. Important Notes: - This beta does not include the Corner Tool that you may have seen in our social media - it is still in development and is not ready for public beta today. - We’ve added three new blend modes in preparation for Affinity Photo: Lighter Colour, Darker Colour and Linear Light. If you use these blend modes in your document, then your document will not look the same when you load it back into the Mac App Store version as they will be replaced by Normal blend mode. - When you first run up the new beta, it will reset any modifications you’ve made to the toolbar or studios in any previous beta version you may have used. This is necessary in order to ensure stability. Improvements/Fixes: - New Blend Modes - Lighter Colour, Darker Colour and Linear Light. - Fix for OS X Yosemite bug which causes terrible zoom gesture performance after clicking in certain types of controls (like the Layers panel). - Greatly reduced the time taken to show the fonts list, even with many fonts. - First implementation of our own EPS exporter. - Much improved SVG export - including the option to not rasterise unsupported elements. - Tab key can now hide/show all UI. - Added preference options for allowing mouse wheel to zoom the view and for allowing file extensions to be hidden/visible. - Fix for colour picker on multi-monitor setups. - Colours should always be reflected complete with their colour profile conversions in all cases. - Font list now shows the correct font name. - Font size can now be displayed in points or in document units. - Typography panel tweaks. - OpenType improvements - we no longer stop enumerating Stylistic Sets as soon as one is unsupported. - Fixed over-enthusiastic PDF export of dashed lines. - Spell-checking fixes. - Selecting items by marquee selecting their bounds is now more accurate - particularly for objects which do not fill their bounds fully like pentagon shapes. Also improved this operation when strokes have inner or outer alignment specified. - Freehand file import now supports the ‘fill unclosed’ property of Freehand paths. - Correctly honour the ‘always show scrollbar’ system option. - Fix for character panel not working on OS X Lion. - Fix for drag-dropping a layer to the system trash can to delete it. - PDF import of text items is now less aggressive at trying to combine objects to form one text object. - Export now limits the file sizes to be those imposed by the file format and provides warnings to this effect if they are exceeded. - Fix for issues with blurs on masks. - Fix for OS X Lion issues with the export dialog causing deadlocks when exporting vector formats. - Save As now uses the default filename if one is available. - Fix for opening GIFs with per-frame palettes. - Brushes in Pixel Persona can now specify their own blend mode and wet edges properties. - Insert Character menu changes. - Support for .ase files. - .afbrushes files will now auto-install if you double-click them. - Opening an image names the layer ‘Background’ and locks it. - Fix for invalidation issues when deleting adjustment/mask children applied to objects. - Save and load the selection with the document. - Fix for Margins disappearing in the Document Setup dialog and DPI getting doubled for Retina documents. - Improved reporting of failed document open/save issues. - Many PSD import and export improvements. - Preserve DPI information when loading/saving images. - Added Escape (and sometimes Enter) as methods to close/confirm many dialog boxes. - Less intrusive auto-generating of structure when adding/applying masks and adjustments. - Fix for vector format export of embedded documents. - Improved mouse-interaction selection logic in the Text Tool. - Text Tool can now drag a text object via its frame. - Improvements to Bevel Emboss and 3D layer effects quality. - Resizing documents now correctly resizes Frame Text objects. - Improvements to adjustment UI - however, many of them will show a blank area where a histogram should be which is currently disabled. - Active document view tab is now light and inactive ones are dark. - Changing between documents should now maintain the Persona you were in in each document. - Added shortcut keys for toggling view modes (outline/pixel/retina pixel). - Numerous other small fixes and tweaks.

Hi Tim, We've just updated the beta build now - give it a go and let me know if your problem still exists. I've not been able to provoke the bug you describe, but it may just be that I'm using it differently to you. Thanks, Matt

VERY cute! :D

Selecting Objects and Strokes
MattP replied to puggerspaniel's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
Could you either share a .afdesign showing the problem, or a screenshot to illustrate where you click and which object gets selected? It might be something trivial to resolve if it's a bug, or alternatively we could explain why it's doing what it's doing... We do many passes at hit-testing when you click the mouse just once - basically we try to be helpful by selecting the thing you clicked on if you clicked on something, or the thing you were most likely to be after if you didn't click on anything, if it made sense to offer it. Without seeing a specific example though, I can't really offer anything too useful at this point... Thanks, Matt -

Hey, I'm forever learning new things - and I wrote a lot of it, hehe! ;) -
Then add me to the list of 'strangers' wishing you well! Happy Birthday, Kevin! :) My wife and I also visited the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and the bazaar a few years ago - we sat at a cafe afterwards and one of the many, many street cats got into my wife's bag and tried to come home with us! ;)

affinity designer Photoshop piece recreated completely in Affinity Designer
MattP replied to retrograde's topic in Share your work
Incidentally, if you're enjoying painting to add texture and shading, you really really need to keep a look out for the start of the Photo beta - we have some brushes from Paolo Limoncelli who has done something utterly incredible and the brushes just look completely out of this world - the guy is an absolute genius! I'd really like to take a look at your file in a bit more detail - if you ever fancy sharing it with me then just send it to mpriestley at seriflabs.com - I'll obviously never use the file for anything other than for drooling over! :)
