Hi Gary, Thanks for that - can I just ask where you're saving to? Desktop, iCloud, Documents - sub folder? Removable media? I can't reproduce it here using my Retina MacBook Pro (Late 2013) with OS X 10.10.1 but that might be something to do with the save location, maybe? Thanks for your help! :) Matt

Wacom Tablet Presets
MattP replied to ronnyb's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Canvas rotation is already wired up to the rotation gesture on your trackpad - but I've set it to just return without doing anything because I still need to fix some of the issues surrounding it... I've posted a video a while ago showing it in action and it's on my radar of things to sort out, so just give me a little time and I'll sort it out :) -

Wacom Tablet Presets
MattP replied to ronnyb's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I think we already have some great things planned for 'guides' in the future - and they're along the lines of what you're talking about, so hopefully you'll be happy with them - just need some time, that's all :) -
Wacom Tablet Presets
MattP replied to ronnyb's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Command+[ and Command+] you say.... hmmm... I was all set to just add those shortcuts but I've realised that we use that for moving the current object up/down in the z-order. I'll definitely have a think about what keys I could map to that so that you can access those options from your tablet! :) EDIT - Got it, I'll add them as Option+Command+[ and Option+Command+] as that's what they are in Illustrator so it will make sense to anyone used to Illustrator and they can still be mapped on your tablet's express keys/touch ring 2nd EDIT - Done! That's in for the next beta :) -
Wacom Tablet Presets
MattP replied to ronnyb's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Hi Ronny, Hopefully the default Wacom setup should provide a good user experience because they map it so that PhotoShop users have most of their shortcuts to hand - and because our users have requested most of the same shortcuts so that it feels familiar, we also should work reasonably well out of the box :) I've recently added the Ctrl+Option drag modifier to the raster brush tools in the newest beta and this is the only thing that my tablet didn't have a handy option for, but when I asked Paolo he gave a great tip which was to assign the Ctrl+Option shortcut to one of the buttons on the stylus - that way you're only ever a click-drag away from being able to adjust size and hardness of your raster brushes :) Thanks, Matt -

Great ideas David, but... lets not forget about cats riding polar bears, eh? Hehehe... ;) (just kidding obviously!)

That is just fantastic, Jack! Really well done - what an achievement! :D

Hi JordonWade, I'm still actually typing on the Corner Tool - I've probably set myself a ridiculous task by trying to make it do everything I wanted it to do (which is much more than the 'minimum' specification that would be required for this type of tool) so it's giving me a few headaches along the way. I'm hoping for it to be in the beta within the next couple of weeks though - and then released on the Mac App Store a few weeks after that :) Thanks, Matt

Hi cgartists, Are you ever disconnected from your network while the document is open? We currently require access to the file at all times when the document is open, so if the network drive goes away and we decide to do some file operation, it may panic, producing this message. We could look to mitigate this in the future. Thanks, Matt

Exporting to PDF
MattP replied to Zeay23's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
That depends what you mean by 'simple gradient fill'... A straightforward linear gradient is supported by PDF and should be exported as vectors, a conical fill (for example) is not supported and so would have to be rasterised in order to look correct. Also, all effects require rasterisation because they are algorithmic and not expressed in some simple vector manner, so there is no support for them in PDF either. -
Shape export to Apples Motion
MattP replied to Scrubelicious's topic in Feedback for Affinity Designer V1 on Desktop
Hmmm, interesting to see that script Paolo, thanks :) I'm sure we could get a very basic support quite easily - but people would expect it to be far more than basic if we officially tried to support it, and that may prove to be very time-consuming... Perhaps it's something we can consider for the future...- 89 replies

I'll have a look at it one day - in the meantime there's usually workarounds (although they're normally not as dynamic in their nature, obviously) For instance, multiple shapes with conical fills could reproduce the image above, or if you were sure of the colours then you could just make a textured brush from a linear gradient and then apply it to the stroke. I'm not saying either of these are a solution to the problem, but at least it could be worked around for the moment...

Hey, all I'm going to say is that if I was in charge of Photo, you'd be receiving teasers all day long! There's a lot of very clever stuff that we've genuinely all crowded around desks and said "How the heck did it do that!?!" - but you'll get to play with it yourselves soon! Sadly, I'm just responsible for Designer, so I'll get back to sorting out the new Corner Tool, playing with the iPad version of Designer and, you know, maybe there's a special something else that's (hopefully) going to be done soon too... ;)

Super-stylish and a great colour palette too - very future and very cool! I'm SO relieved the cat/polar bear combo is not forgotten - you've got at least one eager fan sat on the edge of his seat excitedly waiting to see it! :D

Voids in dynamic operations
MattP replied to Gear maker's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on macOS threads
Wow! Figured it out! It's the line weight you've got on the composite object - it's so wide that on a narrow shape it is actually cutting out a gap where the inside of one edge overlaps the inside from the opposite edge. It shouldn't really act this way in the long run, so I will look to change it, but there isn't really an island - it's only being caused because of the line weight. If you reduced the line weight (or increase it quite a bit) they wouldn't cause this overlap and then the 'island' would go away - or alternatively if you made the area slightly larger then the overlap will stop and the effect will go away. The final option is to just put this item as a separate shape with the same effect. -

Hi Gearmaker, Is there any chance you could attach a file so that we can try to reproduce the problem and see what's going on? Thanks! :) Matt -
Turn off antialiasing
MattP replied to Ethernaut's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
Actually, one thing I've just realised is that you could probably do a workaround at present that involves putting a threshold adjustment over your line work to force aliasing. I know that's not ideal at all, but it might save you some cleanup work in the meantime? (sorry, I'd just noticed your avatar and thought that if this is what you're trying to achieve, you probably can already - but it's a bit clumsy)- 65 replies

Turn off antialiasing
MattP replied to Ethernaut's topic in Feedback for the V1 Affinity Suite of Products
Hi Ethernaut, That's an interesting request - thanks :) Our rendering engine is our own creation, so we are in full control of all parts of it - I could easily allow you to specify your own gamma ramp to affect the antialiasing quality (perhaps just allow you to use a simple control that has some defaults where you could define your own ramp?) and this would allow you to make it do anything you like - sharpening / softening the antialiasing or even thresholding at any level to achieve your desired pixelised effect. In order for that to be useful to more than just a handful of people though, it's likely it would need to be a per-object attribute though (so you could sharpen/soften/threshold some items on the design, but not all of them). Would that be acceptable? Thanks, Matt- 65 replies

Haha! Well, that's a handy resource for anyone who wants to achieve this - thanks! Hang fire though... we may have a solution for you a little sooner than we'd originally planned... :)
