  1. Hi mredig, This has already been requested - I will add it as soon as I get chance :) Thanks, Matt
  2. Hi rubyonthebeach, Welcome to the forums! :) Wow, that's a bit odd!?! We don't have any control over the App Store or its download procedure, it's completely controlled by Apple, but I know that I've also suffered a few download problems before (with other software) and I've usually found that restarting my machine then going back to the App Store and clicking to download/install/purchase again (it doesn't charge you twice!) will usually fix things. Let us know how you get on :) Matt
  3. So far I'm a big fan of the one you've chosen for your avatar - number 3 :) It has really nice colours and shades :)
  4. Hi Busenitz, I think that Affinity Designer is showing you what your printer is reporting are its genuine unprintable areas - which in this case doesn't sound like it's right? I've got a Pixma 6300 at home so I'll try to take a look... In the meantime, Hokusai has suggested some really great things (thanks Hokusai!) - one of which was exporting to PDF - don't confuse this with 'Save as PDF' (or whatever it's called) in the Print dialog - that saves the Print output to a PDF so will include the printer's unprintable region clip! Instead, choose File->Export and select PDF. This knows nothing about the printer and shouldn't produce any clipping. Now you should be fine to just print that PDF. Sorry about this in the meantime, Matt
  5. Very slick! I think the logo works really well in its minimal (silhouette) form too - nice work :)
  6. I'm aware of this and I'll sort it out - sorry :( It usually misses the first small section after you start to draw but I'll fix it soon :)
  7. Not trying to be too cryptic, but... Try asking this question again on Monday... ;)
  8. Our iMac running Lion seems to perform almost identically with beta or App Store versions?
  9. Yeah, I like the feel of the composed piece - nice job! :)
  10. Hi aholub, Do you happen to have pressure on any of these lines? Also, maybe you have a line join style set that SVG is unhappy with so we have to convert it to an outline to make it look the same? Would you be able to share a .afdesign file that shows the problem so we can give you advice? :) Thanks! Matt
  11. Hi Chris, Thanks for sending me the logo - I've had a look and fixed the import now. The problem is that your SVG file specifies its colour stops as percentages without using a percentage symbol - it just says there is a stop at 0 and a stop at 100. W3.org says that the format for the colour stop position is supposed to be a number (which it says is typically 0 to 1) or a number followed by a percentage symbol to denote a percent. So I've fixed it up now and it will work fine, but I've had to add some logic to this incase your exported SVG contains values like 'stop at 0, stop at 0.5, stop at 100' because this is ambiguous - did it intend to make a stop at 50%, or at 0.5%? So I'd argue this SVG is not terrifically well formed and needs fixing. Do you mind me asking what program wrote this so that I can try it out a bit and see if we handle its output properly? Thanks again :) Matt
  12. Can you show me an example of an object that you expect to be able to click on, but cannot? There could be a lot of reasons so I'd really need to see what's (not) happening... Once you have a 'locked' item selected, it's assumed you meant to work with it. You can't select a locked object unless you have explicitly clicked it in the Layers Panel.
  13. All very sensible suggestions - thank you! :) I'll make sure to add them to the list! :)
  14. Hi guys, I do think there's some mileage in some parts of this - the option of some extra handle that would always allow moving when a modifier was held - but I'm not sold on the overall suggestion of changing to the Move Tool while Command key is held, or changing what Option does... Option overrides snapping in all tools and also provides for Cusp creation in the Pen/Node Tool - if it wasn't on the Option key anymore then it would need to be on a different modifier, then the other modifiers would also have to shuffle to other keys - we already don't have enough modifiers for the number of things we try to offer. If holding down Command drops to the Move Tool temporarily, then the Move Tool can no longer offer the Command key as one of its modifier states which means that the resize about centre with Command logic has to move to another modifier and then so does the Option modifier as discussed before - we just run out of keys again... The modifiers were chosen to be as they are after an awful lot of thought about usability and productivity - I think everyone here will start to baulk a little at the thought of changing them unless there is no real downside - and at present we stand to lose an awful lot for the 'activate Move tool temporarily' logic that none of us (including our Creative team) rely on. Perhaps if we could change it so that holding the key modifier for a particular tool will activate it temporarily so that when you let go it will switch back to the last tool? That way, you could map a key on your tablet to 'V' (for example) and hold that whenever you want to go to the Move Tool temporarily - then release and it will drop back into the last tool? That way we wouldn't interfere with the modifiers and we wouldn't stand to lose any functionality? Text is the only tool this wouldn't work neatly in - but there are other problems that would need solving for the Command key based version with the Text tool anyway... What do you think? Matt
  15. Ah, do you mean that you have embedded documents? If so, I'm sure we can sort that out without too much trouble pretty quickly :)
  16. We've just fixed this - sorry about that. It will be included in a new beta in the next day or so :)
  17. Haha! That's really nice! I like the bit of dirty texture on it too! :)
  18. Hi Chris, it shouldn't have touched gradient import, so that's unexpected - is there any chance you could send the svg straight to me and I'll sort it asap :) My email is mpriestley at seriflabs dot com
  19. Congratulations to you and your (now larger!) family! :D
  20. Reset Selection Box only really shows you anything different if you've rotated your object (for example) - it should set the selection box back to a normalised non-rotated version :)
  21. Hi Adrian, At present we only have 3 modes: inside, outside and centre aligned. In the future we may allow arbitrary offsets anywhere between these, but they are far less frequently required. Miter limit... Well, imagine your curve has a sharp corner. When you put a stroke on that, the stroke has to do something when it goes around the corner - it will either add a round join, a bevel join or a miter join. In the case of the miter join, it tries to add a sharp point as long as the line would have projected no more than N times the line weight, where N is the 'miter limit'. If the miter limit was exceeded, your corner would be replaced with a bevel so that things don't get too pointy. Try it out by making a many-pointed star shape, adding a fat line with miter join type and then just adjust the miter limit between 1 and 10 to see the differences. Thanks, Matt
  22. Hi Pablo, It's great that you're enjoying using Designer - and thank you so much for taking the time to note all the improvements you've spotted - looks like a very sensible, useful list and I'll make my way through it :) In the meantime, I just wanted to let you know that (hopefully!) if you get the latest beta version you should have less issues with the 1/2 pixel problems - just simply click the 'Force Pixel Aligment' button on the top toolbar and everything will always snap to pixels. Thanks, Matt
  23. Purpose: Improvements, Features, Fixes Status: Beta Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer Mac App Store: Not submitted Download: https://s3.amazonaws...stomer Beta.dmg To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it. Documents made in this version will not be openable in older versions of Affinity Designer. This change was necessary in order to ensure a consistent baseline for our file format for the upcoming Affinity Photo Beta. When we update the Mac App Store version it will upgrade to this new archive version number too so will not be an issue in the future. Improvements, Features, Fixes - Preparation for Affinity Photo Beta - you will need this beta version of Affinity Designer if you intend to use the ‘Edit in Designer’ option in Affinity Photo Beta when it is released - Added top-level ‘Force Pixel Alignment’ mode to help UI/Web designers and removed some of the overly-complicated options in the snapping setup - File -> Export can now export just the selection, if desired - Slice export can now export SVG, EPS and PDF formats - Improved SVG import and export - Added CMYK JPEG option for slice export - New welcome screen has downloadable samples (and a couple of new samples from Neil Ladkin) - Added Spanish translation (first phase) - Added language chooser in Preferences - Improved accuracy when blending objects with masks and also removed artefacts when blending low opacity layers with blend modes - Fix for some panels having strange transparent glass backgrounds in Yosemite (snapping, for example) - Speed improvements with bitmap brushes - Fix for brushes not appearing in non-English locales - Resizing your document should now be more reliable - Fix for issues appearing when attempting to close an unsaved document - PDF import improvements - Added shortcut for File->Export (Shift+Cmd+Option+S) - Improved opening of interlaced GIF images - Fix for current brush occasionally losing its highlight state in the Brushes panel - ’Show All UI’ now moves the view correctly rather than adding a strange offset - Guides now become visible if they were hidden and the user creates one - Small tweak to placement of nodes in the pressure profile flyout window - Docking studio tweaks - Miscellaneous panel tweaks to cope better with large fonts/translations - Improved performance when trying to copy a small piece of a large raster layer - Fixes for scrollbars not working properly - Numerous other fixes and improvements.
  24. At the moment, there's only the opposite of that - holding down the Shift modifier makes the nudge ten times greater! Clearly, more options are needed here :)
