Teddy reacted to Wiredframe in Next level constraints / auto layout
Affinity's constraints feature is great, but limited. I just stumbled upon something that would make our lives so much better:
http://westonthayer.com/writing/2016/07/27/layout-experiments-in-adobe-illustrator/
It's even open source: https://github.com/WestonThayer/Bloks
Please Affinity MAKE IT HAPPEN!
EDIT: I just played around a bit and (although working with Illustrator again is a real pain when you are used to Affinity Designer) the principle of "Bloks" is pretty awesome. Unpolished and incomplete but awesome.

Teddy reacted to bgarrant in Outer Margin on Grid and Axis Manager
Is there any way to add an outer margin to grids in Affinity Designer latest 1.5.2.58? I have a 1440 pixels grid setup and I just want to add like 30 pixels of outer margin to each side and shift the start point of the grid over with it. Any way to do this using the Grid and Axis Manager or some other way?

Teddy reacted to MEB in Outer Margin on Grid and Axis Manager
Hi bgarrant,
Currently it's not possible to do what you want. The grid's origin will always be placed at the top/left of the artboard. There's more improvements coming to the grids/guides which may include this (i don't have enough info to assure it). In any case i'm moving this thread to the Feature Requests section.

Teddy reacted to MEB in [AD] Snap to grid only behavior
Hi Teddy,
Yes, you can upload the files directly to me. Give me a minute to set up a dropbox folder...
[EDIT] Here's the link. Don't forget to add your forum's username (@Teddy) to the file name.
All files will be deleted after being checked. Thanks.

Teddy reacted to Ben in [AD] Snap to grid only behavior
It's the automatic grid behaviour - it includes midpoints between the visible lines. Does the grid change as you zoom?
Switch off "Use automatic grid" and set up the grid manually.

Teddy reacted to MEB in Corner style for curves
Hi Teddy,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Select the Corner Tool (4th icon) on the left toobar and change the Corner type in the context toolbar above the work area. You can apply it to any path or shape (if converted to curves - menu Layer ▸ Convert to Curves). This tool is only available in Affinity Designer.

Teddy reacted to MEB in [AD] Snap to grid only behavior
Hi Teddy,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Can you please attach both afdesign files so I can take a closer look?
It would also help if you could a attach screen capture of your Grid and Axis Manager and Snapping Manager settings.
Here's how to attach image/files to a post just in case.

Teddy reacted to Electrofied in pen tool’s ability to join points
I managed to join the end points of two pen curves like this:
1. Select node tool
2. Select both curves using shift
3. Command+click TWICE on the end points you want to connect (thus selecting both end points)
4. Select Join Curves from the Actions box
Hope it helps

Teddy reacted to JET_Affinity in pen tool’s ability to join points
Please, no.
The auto-join behavior of Illustrator's Pen Tool (which cannot be turned off) is one of the classic examples of its horrible interface design.
The Pen Tool is not a selection tool. It has no business altering unselected paths. That interface element violates the fundamental meaning of selection.
The behavior can seem like a convenience in certain scenarios. It just as often becomes a stumbling block. It's just as common to need to start or end a separate path at the same location as a pre-existing unselected path. So to facilitate that normal and proper behavior, Adobe had to provide a workaround. You have to:
1. Mousedown somewhere you don't want to start the new path.
2. Press and hold the Spacebar.
3. Drag to where you do want to start the new path, hoping Illustrator's unreliable snap-to-point behavior works.
4. Mouseup.
5. Click elsewhere to continue the new path you just started.
That is so convoluted it is just laughable. All that just to momentarily disable the infernal auto-join behavior which shouldn't be affecting unselected paths in the first place.
No, the proper way to extend a pre-existing unselected path without breaking stride while drawing with the Pen Tool is to simply press a keyboard modifier (Ctrl in the case of Affinity) to momentarily invoke a selection tool, click the endpoint to which you want to join so it is selected, release the modifier (automatically resuming the Pen) and then click the selected endpoint with the Pen.
I can see I'm gonna need a T-shirt: "Illustrator IS NOT the program to emulate."
;-)

Teddy reacted to MEB in Over Eager To Serve Left Studio Panel
Hi markw,
This is a known issue that's already logged to be looked at. It's not related with setting up a shortcut. The panels always appear whenever you restart the app, press Tab or change personas as you have discovered.

Teddy reacted to markw in Over Eager To Serve Left Studio Panel
In the Left Studio panel of Designer I have the; Assets, Symbols & Constraints panels. For quick access to these three I set a Key shortcut to show/hide the Left Studio.
But now whenever I start Designer, come back to the Draw Personas form another Persona or toggle the Tab key the Left Studio pops right back up again unbidden and I have to re-hide it.
Before setting the shortcut key the Left Studio would always stay hidden until I specifically wanted it.

Yes these will be added

Teddy reacted to Vaidy in Split View in Photo & Develop Modes
Can the Split View mode in Photo Persona be added for future release please? I reckon this feature is available in Adobe Lightroom and is quite easy to compare the visual changes each incremental modification to the picture being developed. It would be great to have this in Affinity as well!

Teddy reacted to Bauke in Batch Job to include (sub)folders
Selecting folders and subfolders would be a very welcome addition indeed.

Teddy got a reaction from LoankIx in Batch Job to include (sub)folders
Hi guys!
I would find it very practical for the Batch Job to be able to include folders and its subfolders, instead of manually navigating to and selecting the images themselves.
