Here’s a look at my Affinity Photo setup, using two views of the same painting that I am working on gives me the flexibility of zooming in on one image to work the details while being able to see the immediate impact on the whole image. This approach really works well given I am using a 5K iMac monitor. Comments welcomed.

@Gregory-CJ Ah, okay! Thanks for telling me.
It seems like Separated Mode is a Mac exclusive thing, since I couldn't find it on my Windows version. : (

Yes. The closest thing we Windows users have is via Window > Float or Window > Float All. You can also, of course, float Studio panels by dragging them out of their docked positions, and float the Tools bar by turning off View > Dock Tools.

Yes, as Aammppaa pointed out rotation = View>left or right and I mapped these to the Expresskeys of my "old" wacom tablet.
To get the floating tool bars go under the window menu > Separated Mode. You will have to scale the image to fit your monitor size.
If you want to work with two of the same image then open up a new view under View> new view. Now both images can be scaled/positioned as you want.
Works like a charm.
Here is the final digital painting. I broke my procedure down into a few categories (3D form, Color, Facial landmarks,& luminosity) and will make a new post for that. I didn't keep record of the time it took to paint it which was too long in my opinion , but now that I got AP working for me.. blending /painting brushes etc... things shouldn't take so long.

Gregory-CJ reacted to jstudley in FONT UI SIZE- extra large needed
I'd like to chime in on this as well. A choice of larger font/icon sizes would be great. Out of the box it was the first complaint I had about the program, which is AMAZING!

Gregory-CJ reacted to HVDB Photography in FONT UI SIZE- extra large needed
YES please ....
For people (like me) who wear glasses, this can indeed be a handicap. For example, I myself wear glasses with a built-in prism and +11 diopter, and am obliged to increase the scale and layout of my screen to 125% in order to work comfortably.
But if I record my videos with that setting (125%), a lot of shortcuts no longer function !!
So I first have to reset my screen settings to 100% scale, which is very annoying and tiring.

Thanks Serif for your brilliant AP software version 1.7.
Would it be possible to offer an Extra Large Font UI size option for the many of us who don't have the best of eyesight.
MY experience on my 5K iMAC monitor is that the UI fonts with the two options of default and large font are still too small to read comfortably and I need to get very close to the monitor to read the menu text. Extra large Font UI would help greatly.
Thanks
Greg

Ah Ok if it does what you need that's fine.
Hmm hard to tell, I don't know and thus can't speak for others here, but programmers are more used to it, due to variable naming conventions and the like in several prog languages.

Gregory-CJ got a reaction from lepr in Share your Work-- Forum overhaul
Affinity photo is such a great tool and I would like to see an image/ thumbnail based UI for the Share your work portion of this forum.
Right now with the text based forum presentation, it doesn't really lend itself to browsing , in my option.
A richly, decorative page with the current thumbnails of images created by the users would be very attractive and would invite more participation within the share your work forum.
Your thoughts would be appreciated. see attachments.

Gregory-CJ got a reaction from Cealcrest in Discovering a Great Blending Tool in AP
Okay, a preamble before I tell you what I have found.
I use blending a lot in my artwork and what I previously found is that the AP smudge tool does a relatively OK job on large areas of blending but doesn't do well on any blending
with a brush size smaller that 75-08 pixels. ( which I need)
After receiving a response back to my forum posting about getting a better AP blending tool, I revisited AP and its smudge tool with the hope of uncovering something I missed.
What I found holding back the performance of the smudge tool was the type of brush it was set to.
Any brush setting with a texture or/and grain produced an OK blend for large areas but fell short of anything acceptable for smaller blend areas , if the smudge brush was less than 75 pixels.
The solution, I found, was to make sure that the smudge tool was using a brush that had no built in texture or grain.. ie. use the basic set of brushes.
For the IPAD version of AP: I found that the Basic> large Round Brush works the best
For the Desktop version of AP: I found that the Basic> Round light brush works best.
Of course you have to you have to play with width, flow and strength settings.
So there you have it.. Buried within the AP toolset is a wonderful Blender for digital painting!
Now the smudge tool works perfectly and can stand next to Procreate's blender.
The first image is something I did in AP on the Ipad, with the basic >large round brush as the blending tool. ( okay, I got carried away by the fun of using my newly found AP blender)
The second image done on the Mac desktop using the AP round light brushes.
If there is enough interest in seeing this blending technique in action, I could create a video of the process.
Enjoy!
