Gregory-CJ got a reaction from walt.farrell in Protect alpha option with Smudge tool for AP
I can work with the hard edge that protect alpha would give me and in the long run, protect the alpha for the smudge tool would be beneficial to my digital painting work flow.
NotMyFault thanks for this idea... never heard of this but will give it a try right now.
Walt , I will give your suggestion a try too.

Gregory-CJ got a reaction from fiery.spirit in Protect alpha option with Smudge tool for AP
Please consider adding a protect alpha option with Smudge tool for AP.
I use the smudge tool in conjunction with the paint brush tool daily and love the blending properties that I can achieve with it.
It would be super helpful to have the protect alpha option with the Smudge tool as it would save me a lot of time when blending around
the edges of a painted form.
Thanks

Gregory-CJ got a reaction from fiery.spirit in Thanks to Serif for v 2.1
I use AP daily and the change you made to the brushes panel is much appreciated.
Now, selecting a brush generates a blue highlighted border around the selection and when changing the size of the brush, the highlighted border turns to red..... A very simple way of keeping track with what brush you are presently using...
Also displaying the names of the brushes is very helpful, too.
Thanks Again.

Hi Walt,
Thanks for the timely response.
This 2 second delay shows up on
the first page as well as the other pages. the beginning and end of each page. As mentioned, usually once I have typed/erased/typed/erased/then
the text updates with the typing.

Gregory-CJ reacted to VectorVonDoom in Affinity A-I app
AI upscaling, de-noise or adjustments fine (although that seems to be hit and miss) generating images no. There’s far too much functionality that could/should be added without jumping on to that bandwagon. A lot of the AI output isn’t nearly as impressive as some of the users think it is anyway unless you’re only looking at a tiny thumbnail. Not saying it’s all bad but a lot if it is. If you want AI generated stuff you already have multiple options out there, use those.

I have no problem with AI being used to improve an artists own images, however, I do have very serious concerns over the use of AI to take other peoples images, run the AI, and then claim the "new" image as their own. For example, one company (there may be others) is now advertising a browser plugin that allows the user to click on any image they find online and use it for AI purposes! There seems to be no concerns over copyright issues of the original images. It must also be said that, going on the examples they give, the AI generated images are hardly "new and unique" as they claim. I also find it difficult to see much "creativity" on the part of the person who has helped themselves to someone else's artwork. To me, this use of AI just seems "justification" for untalented people to steal someone else's hard work!

That's not clear. The photographers and artists who have uploaded their work to Adobe stock did not explicitly agree to have their work used for AI image generation training. Adobe does not allow opting out, which is concerning.
There's also been no clear answer that they haven't relied on other unethically obtained datasets. Their relationship with Kris Kashtanova also makes me skeptical that things were done ethically.
I and others have pointed concerned artists towards the Affinity Suite as an option to send a message to Adobe and other companies that they won't financially support them over their use of AI generated images. I do believe that Serif would lose customers if they pursue this.
But I agree that other uses, like upscaling as you mentioned, are fine. Those are a separate issue from image generation.

Firefly has no legal issues, because they trained their model on their own stock content.
What I would like to see in Affinity Photo is "basic" AI stuff like upscaling, compression artefact removal etc. - not txt2img generation.

Gregory-CJ reacted to iceritchie in Publisher V2 Laggy
Actually checked an it isnt. Im not sure if the laggy behaviour of text entry and text styles has been acknowledged as an issue to solve. My confidence is dropping on V2 and have reverted to all V1 apps again. V2 unusable for me right now.

Gregory-CJ got a reaction from walt.farrell in A-Publisher V2 error message when exporting a PDF file
Thank you so much Walt.farrell,
You really know your software! Yes the hyperlinks were the issue, indeed!
I was using a template with hyperlinks and all I did was refresh the hyperlinks and that did the trick... I can now export a PDF in flatten mode, yea!
It was exactly the same link , as I matched the two hyperlinks.. so all I did was delete the "older link" in the template and paste the "new but same
hyperlink" and now it works.
Thanks again Walt, you made my day!

Gregory-CJ got a reaction from Dan C in Imported Brushes to V2 not working..here is my solution
Hello Dan C.
Thanks for your response and I do appreciate all the time you and your team must have logged with this new V2.
I imported and tried out the iPad AF V2 pencil brushes, as you suggested and they do work fine now.... so thank you to all the developers!

Gregory-CJ got a reaction from Chris B in Liquify persona goes crazy V2
Hi Chris,
Sorry for the delay in responding to you. I just finished an intense, demanding job and I needed to be super focused.
Regrettably the file is of a proprietary nature and I can't share it with you.
I did attempt to reproduce the effect with other current files having adjustment layers but the liquify persona worked just as it should... no freeze frames like in the sample
I posted here.
So, if the liquify persona acts up again... then hopefully, I can post the file for review.
Thanks again for your time Chris.

Gregory-CJ got a reaction from NotMyFault in Affinity Photo/ Brush Editing Panel not showing up.
In Version 1 of Affinity photo, I can click on the brush panel , select a brush and double click the brush icon to open the brush editing panel where the brush parameters can be changed.
With the brush editing panel still open, I can click through the stack of brushes in the brush panel and the brush editing panel dynamically updates with the parameters for the current brush selection,
In version 2 of affinity photo this functionality is not working. My experience with Version 2 is that I can easily select a brush from the brush panel but when I double click on the brush icon to activate the brush editing panel, Affinity photo freezes about 98% of the time. Once in a while, double clicking might open the brush editing panel. Once the brush editing panel is open though, you cannot click through the brush panel /brush selections without Affinity Photo freezing up...
Anyone have any experience with this issue? Any solutions?
Much appreciate your help.
Greg

Gregory-CJ got a reaction from Chris B in Affinity Photo/ Brush Editing Panel not showing up.
Hi Chris,
Not to say die, I have really attempted to get these pencil brushes working in AP V2.
In summary,
Importing AP V2 iPad pencil brushes and attempting to select them in the brush menu causes the iMac to freeze. Building an exact duplicate of both the carpenter's pencil and 4B pencil within AP V2, so that they are native to AP-V2 causes the iMAC to freeze Using two brushes from the sprays and spatters brush category does not freeze the iMac.. yet these brushes "look similar " to how the carpenter & 4B brushes are built although the bitmaps used in the texture panel are different. I can't figure this one out..
Perhaps its time to abandon the idea of using the pencil brushes completely, even the pencil brushes built in AP-V2.
I suspect the issue has to do with the bitmaps within the texture panel but is above my expertise.
Can you help and it is worth Serif's developers time to figure this one out?
Thanks
Greg

Gregory-CJ reacted to R C-R in Affinity Photo -rotate image interactively-keyboard short cut
I don't use an Apple mouse but for me for that to work I need to disable "Use mouse wheel to zoom." Apparently, if enabled that overrides Enable canvas rotation with command and scroll wheel.

Gregory-CJ got a reaction from AdamStanislav in Affinity Photo-Digital painting the human figure
I just wanted to share my approach to digital painting. I have tried many different approaches over the years and find this one works for me .
I initially create a graphite drawing on vellum drawing paper, photograph it and then take the digital file into AP. Using the default blending tools, I blend the previously shaded drawing into a nicely sculpted form ready for the application of colour using gradient maps.
Here is a sample of the final stage of the grayscale and its readiness for colour. Comments welcomed.
