I don’t intend to be a dick, but personally, perpetual questions about when a certain feature is coming are annoying the hell out of me. And I would very much understand if the people at Serif ignore those kinds of questions because they might come across as ungrateful demanding. It will be done when it’s done.

Is there any way of adding a list to the top of the font selection of recently used fonts.  My font selection is quite big and having quick access to recently used fonts would be amazing.

I'd be interested in purchasing your old MBP if you don't already have plans for it. I need a good backup laptop and I have no issues running any affinity apps on my older 2008 MBP with 4gigs of memory and a ssd drive.

Has anyone suggested that it would be a good idea to have an object's bounding box handles to always be in view when being moved? It would make it easier to line up objects with guides and construction lines. Currently they disappear when moved.

I haven't. So I'm adopting the if it ain't broke: don't fix it approach; that is to stick with Yosemite for the next 6-12 months. Too many niggles. If I wanted to have headache after headache, I would have stuck with MS Windows...Dot Net Framework, anyone?

    PS

The way that Affinity staff and users are saying how good Vector Magic is, will probably lead to some sort of mutually agreeable deal in the future. ;)

    ellers,

Sorry, I have to disagree with you. Affinity's approach isn't punitive and yours isn't a genuine case. You chose when to start the trial, the company didn't. You knew well in advance the time limit, it wasn't a surprise. You are responsible for the choices you made. Do you think that Adobe, Apple, Microsoft, or any other software company for that matter would give you a retrial simply because as you said "deadlines and other work came up and I did not get to try it properly". No they wouldn't. They would tell you that you are an adult and you are responsible for the things you do. Your argument is similar to someone renting a DVD and then telling the rental shop that you want to keep it longer for free because you didn't get a chance to watch it because you were busy. I do hope that you decide to follow Leigh's advice and give it Designer a try, it is a great product.

I got on a sign cutting forum the other day were people were talking about Windows 7, Adobe, and their cutting software.  Most everyone agreed that they did not want to upgrade to Windows 10 because they are finally happy with how seldom there software crashes under Windows 7.  There computers were only crashing a few times a day now.  LOL.    I can't believe anyone would be happy with that.   I for one am extremely happy that Affinity Designer is Mac only.

But you can type a single letter and press the enter/return key and the next letter will be placed below the first. Repeat this for each letter. Then adjust the spacing between the characters. I use this method to create vertical signs. Should work fine for Japanese characters as well.

    Hi csp, Shmoo,
The reality is that Photoshop has more than two decades of development. There's no way we can compensate for all that in just one year, so having this in mind is crucial to make a correct assessment of what to expect from a new app entering in the market. We are doing the best we can with the resources we have. Only with time we will be able to close the gaps and polish the application to the level we all want.

When you created your rectangle, it is considered a shape.  You need to convert the shape into a curve in order for the node points to be editable.  This is true with all shapes.  Make sure that your object (shape) is selected and click on the "convert to curves" button near the tool bar.  Have fun!

I've not made a fantastic job of the texturing work, but fundamentally like this?...

Take a look at my (not very good!) file.

    Stamp.afdesign

It's a rounded rectangle with a red stroke, red text in the middle and then I grouped the two together. Then I went to the eraser tool (it's in the Pixel Persona in Designer, or the Photo Persona in Photo) and chose a big textured brush and just brushed all over my group - that erases parts of it out, as if they hadn't been stamped properly.

    Hopefully that makes sense? :)

    Thanks,
    Matt

Signguy reacted to Ben in Exporting an .AI file not possible - best alternative?
I hate to say, but there seems to be only 1 user out of thousands that is specifically asking for legacy AI export.  Sounds like you are unfortunately shackled to your old Adobe workflow, and clearly the tools in Affinity make you wish you had the best of both worlds.

I think there are far more users asking for other features right now, and we are always going to put effort into areas that deliver the most benefit to the widest user base.  Making special effort to facilitate a niche usage model, supporting an 18 year old obsolete format, might be regarded as time not best spent.

Ultimately, we want people to work within our ecosystem.  Import your stuff or create new stuff, and stay here.  We are not intending to be a link in an otherwise Adobe tool chain.  We are giving you PSD and PDF export, which covers most real user requirements pretty well, along with export of all common bitmap types - so that if you need to create baked output from your Affinity documents for typical use in web or print, you can, and they will work just the same as similar output from Adobe's apps.

I'd also ask the question - why does anyone need to regularly access work they did 10 or 15 years ago?  And if you created it more recently, why would you chose to save it in an obsolete format?

I don’t know if I should post it here, as it is a feature request … but it is such a small one, that opening another topic would be like taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Would it be possible to have a checkbox in the preferences that allowed us to disable cloning objects by Opt + Drag?

At the moment we can clone objects by Opt + Drag and by Cmd + Drag. When we hit Opt before dragging the object, we get a clone, while when we hit Opt after dragging the object, we disable snapping. Oh my, I must confess, I did create a lot of clones in the past, when I just wanted to move my shapes freely. I am well aware that it takes some habituation to use Cmd + Drag for cloning objects, but once you have learned this alternative way, it would be a huge relief if we could just turn off this Opt + Drag option. Does that make sense?

    Cheers, Alex  :)

Just ran across this, had a funny little anecdote to add in.

Take all the negative comments about Affinitys decision to be Mac only, add them together, now multiply them by 2... And this is how much I have trolled Corel to release Draw for Mac.

So, irate windows users: I feel your pain...

Is what it is. And at least us Mac users finally have a good vector app that's not Adobe! And windows users do too with Corel, so appreciate what you have.

I feel that your decision to go Mac only is spot on.  It's funny how so many people want all that Affinity has to offer on their PC.  If they only realized the limitations of their choice of operating systems, they would understand why this is Mac only in the first place.
If you want the benefits that a Bugatti has to offer, you don't buy a Ford Fusion and get mad that Bugatti doesn't make an engine for your Ford.  I use Windoze, Linux and OS X operating systems.  They all offer one benefit over the other in certain areas.  Serif made their choice and decided to capitalize on all the features that it's chosen operating system has to offer.  Was it to fill a niche or to capitalize on the the OS's benefits and abilities?  Obviously that question has already been answered.  They have designed a super responsive program that will be(and apparently is) the envy of the competition.

Keep up the great work Serif and if you as a user really want the benefits of the Affinity product line, get a Mac and be happy.

Signguy reacted to MEB in Why not Merge - Designer / Photo
    Hi marsofearth,
Usually applications that tend to do all at once never manage to do anything particularly well. Affinity Photo and Designer serve very different goals. This should become more evident as we move forward. Neither of them are feature complete yet. There will be more Personas / new features / tools, not to mention a third application for desktop publishing. If all this were included in a single app it would become much more complex and heavy, harder to test and maintain and also harder to learn. Keeping them separate allow us to broaden the scope of each one in their particular area while still offering great flexibility since all Affinity apps share the same file format. This allows you to switch from one to another seamlessly without any type of conversions. We believe this is the best compromise between having a limited all-in-on app or a suite of powerful but disconnected/unrelated apps.

Signguy got a reaction from Ben in honoring the $39.99 price as advertised
Serif, I paid $49.99(at FULL PRICE) and expect to have paid $499.99 for this software!  This upsets me very much! /s   As a matter of fact, I don't have a use for Affinity Photo(as of yet) but I bought it anyway just to support you guys because of your EXTREMELY FAIR PRICING.

I think that if people didn't get the discount that they feel that they deserve, they should be complaining to Apple and not Serif because it is Apple that pulled that price from the App store based on some time zone setting.  I know many people that bought the program on the 23rd and still got the discount because they didn't wait till the last minute to buy it.  But to come on this forum and start complaining about false advertising or some illegal aspect on Serif's end is absurd.

I don't know why you bought the product in the first place, but if you legitimately bought it for your business or to speed up your productivity in development, I think you will agree that an extra $10 is not worth getting upset about.

You do have a legitimate complaint but I don't believe that this forum is where it needs to be directed.  Try here instead: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204084

But I'm not going to get all bent out of shape and tell you the program is worthless!  It's simply something that needs to be looked at.
