christovw66 got a reaction from H.Creative in Flatten layers into single pixel layer: a simple walk through please?
    Thanks in advance friends...

...when flattening into a single pixel layer, do I first need to rasterize the grouped layers? Not sure how to do this, i.e, I'm unclear on the steps involved, and the proper order in which to perform them. A brief walk-thru would be greatly appreciated.

FYI - I am wanting to manipulate the Flat image (bend, curve around a cylindrical surface such as a large barrel or a utility pole, alter perspective and/or viewing angle, stretch by pulling/moving nodes independently of each other, etc).

    greateful for your help,

Can any you fine folk direct me on how to delete a file which has not been Saved-As yet? This is the file I was working with that froze the UI on my AD app as reported in my previous post ('Frozen Functions - most menu items disabled').

Regarding my 'frozen screen' in Affinity Designer - it appears to be a corrupted file, if possible it is probably self-induced.

Attached are a couple of screenshots, one showing the screen BEFORE and the other showing the name of the file that I can now see after Force-Quitting AD and getting things moving again. The file name is now visible to me and reads 'CVlogoStockholm(currupt:pixelates).svg' as seen on screenshot-1.

My question has now shifted from how to unfreeze, to how I can get rid of/delete this file. I don't want to go near it for obvious reasons.

So far I've only tried dragging it into Trash from this 'Open Recent File' drop-down but having never been Save-As'd, it doesn't move. Suggestions?

Thanks as always folks. I appreciate your time and instruction.

christovw66 got a reaction from Callum in Explanation of Asset Behavior in AD 1.5.4 please...
...me again - I am determined to learn this software (it's actually been a blast, just have so many basic questions - thanks for your patience)

With the help of MEB, Alfred, R C-R, Callum, and MANY others I have learned a lot but am certainly still in the novice category.

I have a relatively simple image (1 - 2 layers) that I want to save in my AD Assets-Panel (a custom panel created for this project). I've saved/moved a number of other images into this panel previously with no problem, simple click/drag operation. However, with this particular layer I'm seeing something I haven't seen before...when I click/drag, the image seems goes to go BEHIND the Assets panel and stays there, unseen. No vertical blue-bar appears in the A-panel, and upon release of the click/drag, the image does appear (or 'stick') in with other Assets.

Anyone know why I would see this behavior?

One additional Assets related query: what is the trick/procedure to assure the reasonable sizing of an image before dragging it into the Assets-panel so that it is not EXTREMELY LARGE when I access it for use on a newly opened image? Yet another basic skill that I'm 99.9% sure I've missed along the way.

Cheers! Hope y'all have a great weekend.

christovw66 got a reaction from John Rostron in Visible Blue Crop-Lines...2 quick questions
    'morning guys/gals,

2 quick questions please (and thanks):

    1) in the image below (thumbnail and file attached) you will see a logo image that was originally on a black rectangular background. I cropped the L and R sides to get rid of portions of the background so as to create an even-ish border. How can I get rid of the still-remaining blue lines outlining the original boundaries of said black rectangle background?

...and, 2) in order to distort/stretch this image (logo portion), don't I simply 'convert to curves' the grouped layers then click/drag whichever node I'd like to 'pull' on? My goal is to be able to manipulate the image by independently move nodes to create perspective changes in some cases, or make the image look curved in other cases (as if on a cylindrical surface such as a telephone pole, etc). Does the image/layers need to first be flattened.

    Big thanks from a newbie!

    Hi There,

I just had a look at your file:

There are several ways you could do this. I Have listed a few for you below so you can what suits you best and depending on what you require of the artwork!

    1. Select your outer red rectangle and then insert Artboard (using Artboard tool) with; Size rather than Document selected in the Context Menu (This will create an Artboard to the same dimensions of the selected object then export//save)

    2. Using same Method but add a background rectangle object at size you require (Then you can control the exact dimensions and repeat 1)

    3. Insert Artboard Using Size:Document Then use handles to manually resize or define specific size in the Transform Panel

    Current document size=430x297mm (300dpi)
    object = 305x204 mm

    3. In export Persona
Create a Slice using the Slice tool and export using your named slice

    4. Create Slice from Selected layer (in layers Panel/PixelPersona/Layers then Create Slice button) Then go to slices and export

There are a few other ways like resetting the document dimensions or create a new document to required size and Copy/Paste your object

Hope this helps have fun with the application!

In both Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo there is a setting for this under 'Preferences > Tools'. The 'Move Tool Aspect Constrain' dropdown list allows you to opt out of the automatic behaviour, choosing instead between 'Constrain by default' and 'Do not constrain by default'.

christovw66 reacted to manuG in What updates will I get?
I bought Designer and Photo for Windows about 2 weeks ago. Also I love both programs, Photo is a bit unstable. Now I'm puzzled about the update policy, I've read several things that cannot be all true:
    - Some people on the forums here say that I will get 2 years of updates, after that I'll have to buy again
    - Some say I will only get the next beta version "to see if my issue are addressed in the update"

If the later was true that'd make me pretty unhappy, honestly. Photo is very unstable, close to unusable .I would expect that I at least get the bugs fixed, a release version, not a beta that then is incompatible with the release version of Designer.

Can someone please explain the update policy of Affinity.

    Thanks,
    Manuel

'Erase White Paper' usually works well for things like this in Affinity Photo, but Christo is using Affinity Designer (which doesn't include such filters). However, in either app you can do the following:

    1. Select the layer in the Layers panel
    2. Click on the 'Blend Ranges' gearwheel at the top of the panel
        • The Blend Options dialog will pop up
    3. Drag the right-hand end of the 'Source Layer Ranges' graph all the way down
        • The white background will become transparent
        • The rest of the image will become semi-transparent
    4. Drag the left-hand end of the 'Source Layer Ranges' graph across to reintroduce the lost opacity into the main image     • The lightest area in the image (the pale grey region) becomes completely opaque at an 'In' value of 75% or so     • You need to keep the 'In' value below 95% to avoid reintroducing white areas around the edges of the bag

christovw66 reacted to Frank Jonen in Cropping - am I going crazy?
Cropping means to crop the entire document. The crop tool is hard enough to use as is, but it's not what you're looking for.
I think what you're looking for is masking a layer.

You can do two things. Draw a marquee selection (rectangle) over the image and add a layer mask. The selection then gets used to 'crop' the layer to the dimensions of the rectangle masks you've drawn.

The other way is to draw a rectangle shape (vector) over your image, then drag your image underneath the shape and the shape will mask the image. You can edit the shape but it will distort the image. To prevent this, drag the image out again and resize the shape, then drag it back in again.

christovw66 reacted to R C-R in How do I isolate a portrait of someone onto a blank background?
No photo showing so it is hard to know what is & isn't showing for you. The mask icon button in the video is at the bottom of the Layers panel, which is one of the "Studio" panels. If you do not see a Layers panel, go to the View menu > Studio & from the pop-out submenu enable it.

If you export to JPEG (easily done by selecting that tab from the Export window) you will end up with a background, probably white, because the JPEG format does not support transparency. That is why in the video the file exported to PNG or TIFF. Those formats support transparency so the background can be clear.

For a different angle, you can draw a white "donut" shape between the two black circles to visually "trim" the inner circle (over-pasting).

Alternatively, you can use an ellipse as a vector mask for the bitmap layer, trimming the inner picture by hiding everything outside the inner image area (cutting), including the roughness.

I have vector scissors, so everything looks like vector paper.
