  1. Another informative response MEB. How would I go about (in AD, on a Mac) getting rid of a background by making it 'invisible' as you said above? Thanks in advance MEB. -Christo
  2. Great information v_kyr, thanks again for sharing it. I learn a bit from every single response - really benefiting from your input. -Christo
  3. Seems I read somewhere in the forums that a raster layer cannot be grouped with a vector layer...is this corrects? I have a vector layer (logo) that won't group with another layer that has not yet been vectorized (a downloaded image). I am assuming this is the reason but learned long ago never to assume. Could this be the source of my grouping problem? I'm working on a 3 month old MacBook Pro with AD 1.5. My objective is simply to place (overlay) the logo image onto a download photo (non-vector). Thanks in advance as always! -Christo
  4. Morning all, How do I go about resizing (in this case shrinking) an Asset after dragging it from the Assets panel onto to the newly created artboard? When I drag the logo-image to the artboard, the image is HUGE...approximately 1000% to large, most of it spilling over the edges of the artboard. The only thing I'm able to do this far is reduce the size of the artboard, with the proportions (way to large) of logo shrinking at the same rate. Help a newbie please? As always, thanks. -Christo
  5. I agree with you Old Colonist about the folks on this forum - incredible in both response time AND detail in addressing issues. From your question and the responses to it, I learned yet another detail that most certainly would have run up against. Fantastic. Thanks all. -Christo
  6. AD fam, On many of the AD tutorials I see a click/drag operation used to select an item you want to isolate for copy/paste purposes. My question, is the click/drag done while holding down a keyboard key (i.e., the 'alt' or 'command' key)? When I click/drag over a given area that I'm trying to cut out, I see the light blue square/rectangle cover said area...but when I release my finger from the mouse it seems I'm unable to 'capture' (copy) the selection. I know I'm missing something simple - please have mercy on me. Thanks in advance. -Christo
  7. No apologies needed Alfred...and don't sell yourself short! I've learned a lot from reading many of your responses to other members. Thanks for that. Seriously, -Christo
  8. Thanks a ton Mike, for both the file and the method you used. Really appreciate it! -Christo
  9. ...forgot to mention, the image I'm referring to can be seen in the thumbnails above in previous posts to this thread/topic. -Christo
  10. AD family, Can one one of y'all guide me through the process of 'cutting out' the image of the hound dog so that I can then copy/paste it into a true, perfect circle (which I've created in a different document)? Thanks all! -Christo
  11. Thanks for the info Alfred...those were my thoughts exactly (regarding the PM system), yet when I responded to your message as well as one I received from MEB (Miguel) I didn't hear from either of you - and that's not like you guys. Based on this, I figured I must need to send PM's a different way. This was about a week ago when I added you as a friend, and on that same a few minutes later I posted my follow-up question to the same/original thread. Sounds like that should've 'bumped' the topic, as you said. I'll haven't checked the thread for responses in a few days - I'll check again now. Thanks brother, -Christo

  13. Got a super simple one guys, thanks in advance... Is there a way to direct-message a member or members of this forum? I'm trying to follow-up with a question regarding a thread I started a couple weeks ago but haven't had any bites yet - thought a DM would expedite getting a response. Appreciate it! -Christo
  14. Leigh, FYI - the link you sent answered all my questions. Once again, thanks. -Christo
  15. Thanks much Leigh, sorry I missed it. Appreciate the link! -Christo
  16. 'morning folks, Would of y'all mind walking me through (or pointing me toward) creating a new Asset file? As a follow-up to the above, things I'm hoping to save are obvious I'm sure but I'll mention them anyway...Grouped-layers composing icons/logos I've created that I need to frequently use (duh). I'm sure your responses will answer all my newbie questions so I'll just wait to see them before posing any more painfully obvious ones. Thanks! -Christo
  17. Good morning AD family, For the sake of practice, as well as what seems in my case to be simplicity, I've decided to redraw this image. I'd appreciate your input on the approach I am going to attempt described below. Thanks in advance. I've decided to trace around the silhouette of the hound-dog image and 'excise' or remove it (can I save as an asset?), then recreate a new black background circle with the white 'light beam' subtracted. After this new background has been created, I would then like to paste the hound-dog head image in place over the newly created background. I'm not concerned with the 'jaggies' regarding the dog's spots, etc therefore see no need to redraw those inner details. I guess my question is a 2-parter: 1) what tool do I use to isolate and remove the hound-dog's silhouette so that I can copy/paste into an Asset file and or another document... ...and, 2) what would your advice be on the best way to punch out said white light-beam from a solid black circle created using the Circle tool for example. I played with the Pie tool, but wasn't sure able to figure out how to manipulate/move the center-point of the pie shape's cut-out beyond the center point in order to lengthen the pre-cur wedge. My first thought was to create a black circle, then use create an elongated triangle using the Triangle tool and simply push out the desired 'light-beam' wedge from the black circle using Boolean ops but I'm going wrong somewhere because I've been unable to switch on the 'Subtract" icon (or any of the Boolean op icons/switches) for some reason...they are grayed out in both the tool bar and the dropdown menu. Thanks all for your time and expertise! -Christo
  18. Many thanks MEB!...my gut told me it had to be a simple maneuvre yet I'm just beginning to learn this 'new foreign language' known as AD - to this point I've always created my art by hand but really want to learn computer based graphic design as well. I'm very excited about AD/AP as I've done a lot of research before jumping in, and definitely did not want to get sucked into the AdoBe vortex. A committed AD fan. -Christo
  19. Thanks for doing this Alfred, this is Christo (*modwagen*). I've yet to complete my profile info, but for the sake of this post/introduction I am a pharmacist by trade and am located the US (Georgia). I have always detested my 'chosen profession' and have something creative constantly going on the side...t-shirt & logo design, branding projects with local small businesses, etc. Until recently I've done my work the old fashioned way - by hand. This explains all my rudimenta...
