  1. Is there a quick way to disable or hide all the layer effects on an object without having to "un check" each effect in the panel? Something like alt-clicking the "fx" icon to disable the effects. If not, this would make a nice feature addition.
  2. @A_B_C yea this really hurts my workflow and patience. While we're on the topic of "Dynamic Guides" I also think having a separate color (red/green/yellow) for each axis is overkill and distracting. Separate colors have little purpose as you can simply see if the guide is horizontal, vertical, or both.
  3. When snapping is enabled and you're editing text (or text tool is active), the dynamic guides will follow the text cursor around making it very difficult and annoying. Additionally, the (green/yellow/red) node on the dynamic guide is positioned directly under the cursor, which is even more aggravating when trying to move and edit. Is there an actual purpose for this? I noticed this happens with the shape (rectangle, circle, etc.) tools as well. If you draw a rectangle and then move it around the canvas while the rectangle tool is still active, the dynamic guide "node" will follow beneath the cursor around the bounding box. Also annoying. I can understand how this is helpful when using the pen tool, but I think it should be disabled for editing text and possibly shapes too. For now my only work-a-round is to disable snapping when editing text. But it seems ridiculous to have to do this every time. Any thoughts?
  4. @DWright Does Affinity use the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 from the System > Library > ColorSync > Profiles or is there a packaged profile with the app it uses? Edit: I suspect it uses a packaged sRGB IEC61966-2.1 file instead of the system sRGB IEC61966-2.1. I was able to locate the IEC_RGB.icc file in Affinity Photo > Contents > Resources > etc > Colour
  5. @MEB I think @olibclarke's original post pertained to making this setting default. At least that's how I interpreted it. For example, if you disable View ▸ View Mode ▸ Clip to Canvas, this will revert when a new document is created or AD is closed. So every time a new document is created, the "Clip to Canvas" has to be turned off/disabled. What @olibclarke and I are suggesting is for AD to remember this setting for new documents or when the app launches. When I disable "Clip to Canvas" I want that to be the default behavior so I don't have to select it everytime.
  6. @eaigner Completely agree… it's quite ridiculous. The process should be as simple as: 1. Select an object(s) 2. Press keyboard shortcut and cursor switches to color picker 3. Click to sample any color on the screen -- selected object(s) receive that color
  7. I have used "Art Text", but that's more suitable for one or two lines of text as it requires hard returns to force a line break. Without having an "auto height" for "Frame Text", it becomes difficult to accurately maintain vertical rhythm and alignment as you simply have to estimate where the bottom of the text ends. And if the bounding-box happens to be taller or shorter than the contained text, the snapping will be way off.
  8. The snapping manager has two options for forcing pixel-perfect rendering: • Force Pixel Alignment • Move By Whole Pixels This works quite well, but sometimes shapes fall on the half-pixel. Also, you might open a document created by another person who had these settings off. This is where "Round to Nearest Pixel Edge" comes into play. It could be a button and-or a menu item, but clicking this will force the selected object/shape to round dimensions to the nearest pixel edge. For example if a shape is 4 x 3.5 pixels, the "Round to Nearest Pixel Edge" will make the object 4 x 4 pixels. Sketch app has a similar function, which works very well for ensuring pixel-perfect graphics.
  9. And, while we're on the topic of text, I think the "Frame Text" box should have the option to set auto height, so the bounding-box is only as tall as the text within. I posted a feature request with more info here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/19369-auto-height-for-frame-text/
  10. @Davi Harris >> I am wondering what app you are using that draws the text frame as you describe Sketch app renders the text frame as such. This mimics the way line-height and text work on the web. Below is a screenshot of how Sketch renders 16px text with line-height 24px on an 8px baseline grid: https://drp.io/i/NkND25DAl
  11. @dave harris >>The height of the caret is the height of the text (including the area for accents etc). Why is it a problem if it goes outside the text box? Correct. The problem is actually the text box, not the caret. The top of text box should include the accents, but they rest outside. If the top of the text box matched the accent height, it would also match the caret height, thus fixing the problem. This is a major issue for baseline grids and snapping. For example, if you set the font size to 16px with line-height 24px on an 8px baseline grid, the text should rest perfectly on the horizontal grid line. However, currently, the text baseline rests slightly above the horizontal grid line. Because the text box does not include the accents, it breaks the vertical rhythm. I've tested with multiple fonts, so that's not the issue. The solution is to extend the text box frame up, to include the cap-height AND accents. Reference image: https://drp.io/i/EyzYzxv0e
  12. @R C-R Yes, snapping candidates are off. I've tried every possible snapping option with no luck. Makes working with text a chore.
  13. Is there a way to allow lines of text to snap to a baseline grid in AD? I've created the baseline grid with the grid manager, but only the text frame snaps.
  14. I can't figure out how to hide the "red snapping dot" when editing text. I've played around with multiple settings in the snapping panel, but the only way I can hide it is by disabling all snapping -- which I don't want. I need the text frames to snap to page/guides/objects. But everytime I go to edit text the "red dot" follows the text cursor all around, making it quite difficult to manage and very cumbersome. Any ideas? Thanks
  15. How about an option to set the "Frame Text" to auto height so the bounding-box is only as tall or wide as the text within. This does not appear to possible at the moment. The height of the text box can be manually adjusted, but having it auto-fit the text would be quite nice. Possible solution: alt/option clicking the bottom bounding-box frame would automatically adjust the size to match the text height. Edit: I no longer have illustrator on my machine (completely switched to AD) but I'm almost positive it had a similar method for handling this Any thoughts?
  16. The ability to insert a new "Fill Layer" in AD appears to be absent. With AP you can do this by selecting "Layer > New Fill Layer" in the menubar, allowing you to quickly change the document or layer background color. AD supports "Fill Layers" as I just copied/pasted one from AP and it works perfectly fine. Problem is there's no way to insert/create one directly in AD. Can this be added to the "Layer" menubar item please? Cheers
  17. Thanks for the suggestions @crabtrem. I'm adding this to feature requests
  18. How do you add "Fill Layers" in AD? With AP you can do this by selecting "Layer > New Fill Layer" in the menubar, allowing you to quickly change the document background color. This appears to be absent in AD -- did I miss something?
  19. @RC-R Good suggestion, but that's a pretty dirty hack in my opinion.
  20. Also worth noting that the corner tool radius still uses one decimal place for pixels, even if the preference is zero. This should also be a whole number…
  21. I completely missed the "create Compound" in the Layer Menu — works perfect, thanks JimmyJack! Holding alt/option for right-click "non-destructive" booleans would still be a nice addition, though not crucial.
