  1. I think when creating a new file you should start with a transparent background Test_reply.afphoto
  2. As an amateur photographer I make quite a few photobooks. For myself, but also for my family or friends And for that I regularly use a gradient background on which the pictures are arranged. One or more colors from the images are used for this purpose And in Affinity Photo the method is different than in Photoshop. It sound a bit silly but it took me some time to find out how to sample a color from an image with the gradient tool. For the newbies and maybe others the video shows the method to achieve that result. Gradient.mov
  3. A right mouse click on tools with a white triangle (bottom right) shows more options. Customise Tools Panel via the MENU : View > Customise tools Transforming a portrait format into a landscape format depends on the type of the image and its resolution. But IMHO cropping will be unavoidable.
  4. cdel1234, I suppose you have only one layer in the layer panel ? If so, than ... Add a new pixel layer Fill this layer with white Drag it to the bottom File > export (as JPG or PNG)
  5. File > save as & File > save are used for .afphot format File > export is used for .jpg, .png etc formats
  6. RC-R You had it right. I was mistaken. I double-clicked by mistake on the non textual portion of the panel. Many thanks, Hubert
  7. While waiting for ... I made my own ND-gradients Method 1. Create the ND-gradient File > New - with transparent background - resolution as needed - apply an ND-gradient black or gray to transparent as needed. - save as PNG-file 2. Import via macro recording File > Place - the PNG-file on top of the current image - change the blend mode to "soft light" or whatever is suitable
  8. Just an idea.... Double clicking on top of a free floting Studio Panel minimizes (hides the content) it. This is not possible with panels, stacked on top of each other, at the right ! I know that, when closing the application, floting panels are stored together with the current view of the user interface. But as I often use macro's this functionality would be handy to fit this extra panel on top at the right. Hubert
  9. One can also change the keyboard shortcuts via "Edit>Preferences" (CTRL+,) I'm using an AZERTY keyboard and I associated the shortcut keys with the "Angle Brackets" Thus, you can choose between one of two methods

  12. +1 for a shortcut to set the foreground/background to black/white as in Photoshop
  13. I suppose there exists a shortcut for restoring foreground and background color to black and white ? Didn't found it yet ...
  14. AFFINITY PHOTO 1.5.0.45 Slow on my system too. System specs: Windows 10 Home Processor : AMD A4-5000 APU Video : AMDRADEON HD Graphics 1.50 GHz RAM : 8,00 GB System : 64-bits, x64-processor .. Opening RAW-files .. A single Canon RAW-file (xxx.CR2) 23,3 MB (5184 x 3456 px) takes about 38 sec or more !! In photoshop, opening THREE RAW-files (panorama shoot) takes about 7 sec ... Huge difference !! .. Developing RAW-files .. lack of performance Fragments are anoying etc. This video screen recording explains what I mean.
  15. Hi everyone, I'm just an amateur photographer. Making exciting and fascinating photographs, nature, landscape, faune and flora, architecture, portraits, Urban decay, etc. , it does not matter. For almost a decade, I've been using Photoshop to optimize my pictures. I loved Adobe but I just can't justify the cost anymore. An overview of recently uploaded photos can be found on my Google+ account: https://plus.google.com/u/0/+HubertVandenBorre On friday, I downloaded Affinity Photo (Windows) and I'm overall impressed. I played around several hours trying to see if I can do everything I do with photoshop and wow ...! Finally a decent and modern replacement for Adobe's monopoly ! Thank you all of you. Hubert
