Move Along People reacted to Gabe in Maintain aspect ratio on rescale wrong
Hi all,
I'm not really sure why you would expect "rescale" to preserve the aspect ratio. Rescale will essentially "stretch" the content to fit your new dimensions.
"Keep aspect ratio" is not an option in that dialog, so I will move this to feature request.

Maybe you couldn't see the difference, but It's not about these forums, it's about a Affinity's irresponsible false advertising PaulEC.
That what it is and I hope that now it's clear for you?

I don't use this because of many reasons but here is a good one from the Topaz website:
"Please note, ON1, Capture One, Serif Affinity, Corel PaintShop Pro, Skylum Lumiar 3 are not fully supported."
emphasis added by me.

Move Along People reacted to LaraJ in Maintain image proportions across different page sizes
@kaakoo you are right, it seems to maintain aspect ration when changing from A4>A5. But things get stretched when changing from letter to A4 or from letter to half letter (which is not even a preset and custom dimensions need to be introduced).

Move Along People reacted to MattP in wrong values for gradient
Hi guys, just as an update, there's nothing wrong with that colour! But I do agree it's a bit confusing as to why you're seeing what you're seeing!
You've got a colour, which is correctly indicated in the colour panel, but what you've not got shown there is that you've chosen a '30% tint' of that colour (in the colour studio, select the hamburger menu at the top right and choose 'Tint' to show the control). When you change the colour to a new one, even the same value, it'll pop back to being the 100% tint version, hence the sudden change back to what you expected to see... I think we could do with showing it's a tint in the main colour chooser so that it makes this more obvious!
Thanks,
Matt

Move Along People reacted to opermaks in How to Edit the Alpha Channel
Not “just one”, but “just one to expand the community”. Understand? Just one to allow a bunch of people even to star work with the product. Just one that will bring new money for development not at the expense of discounts.
That shows why you're still writing. As if you want to overcome someone without delving into the essence of his Message. How nice it is to accuse someone of negativity and try to heroically put it in its place, taking the words out of context. If this is not the case, then do not write. I described my problem to be heard, not to be silenced. And I haven't seen a positive response from the developers yet. If I missed it somewhere, please share the link with me. I'm ready to wait my turn in peace. But in the meantime, I have to ask to let me and other artists into this queue officially. And please don’t imagine how I demand freedom for artists with a machine gun and a can of gasoline. If you communicated with me looking me in the eye, then you would not have any doubts about my adequacy.
Happy photoshopping, bro.

If you are going to allow crazy zoom levels at least make the display box big enough to display the numbers, did you really think we wouldn't?

Move Along People reacted to MEB in Arrange/Move Outside reverses Layer order
Thanks David, haakoo,
I'm logging this to be looked at.
Meanwhile, if you right-click the objects in the Layers panel and select Release, they will keep the original order.

Move Along People reacted to Kasper-V in Those mittens! I've jumped on the bandwagon.
Utterly apolitical, I promise! I'm not even from the US, so I have no axe to grind. As everyone on the interweb seems to be popping Bernie Sanders into humorous settings, I thought I'd have a go myself. I looked for the largest photos I could find, as it's much easier to work at the larger size -- and the mistakes are less obvious when I save the jpeg at a much smaller size (I hope!).
OK, the first one is The Night Watch by Rembrandt (but you know that).
I found a copy of Mr Sanders' photo online and selected out the figure and the chair. After some trial and error, I thought this was the best position to place him, but I had to flip the image to make the perspective of the chair to match. Fortunately he's fairly symmetrical, so it's not obvious. I made a slight Curves adjustment to get the contrast more or less right. Then I selected a section from the costumes of the figures in the background, upper left , applied an Average blur to it and laid it over the Mr S layer, set the blend mode to Overlay, and dialled down the opacity till the colours looked right. Finally I made a selection with the Pen tool and used that for a mask to put him behind the chap in front.
I ought to have removed that dog, I suppose -- or moved it back a little so it doesn't look as if it's under the chair.
And this is Luncheon of the Boating Party by Renoir.
I used the same original image I'd extracted for the previous pic and masked out parts of the Renoir to out him behind the table. Then I Cloned in some background to remove the chap who was originally sitting there -- a little bit of his head and shoulders was still visible. I made the same adjustments as before, including the colour overlay (from the big fellow's arm on the left) to try and match the skin tones.
Now here's the clever part! I made a copy of the Bernie layer and its adjustments and rasterised it. (This way I still had the group intact if I made a mess of it.) I opened the Paint Mixer brush and selected the Impressionist Oil 01 brush, set the foreground colour to none, and painted brush strokes over the raster Bernie, making sure I had Auto Load Brush on and clicking Clean Brush frequently. In this way I made the texture match the rest of the painting and not look like a photograph. I didn't need to do this with the Rembrandt, as his style is photographic.

thanks a lot guys. I think it's a bit cumbersome for what I want so I'll continue looking. I may buy designer anyway though for other stuff. A tenner is not a lot to pay. Maybe it will tempt me away from craft artist 2 on my PC!

Move Along People reacted to zeknoss in Affinity products for Linux
People here are just asking Serif to bring the Affinity suite over to Linux, and they're even claiming they will extra money to buy another license for it if it ever happens.
This thread should only exist here to campaign this request. Contra-arguments about how Serif doesn't "owe" anything to anyone and how Linux is not for XYZ seems a little repulsive, also ridiculous at least.
Dodge released Viper RT/10 in 1992 and the car only had a chassis, a hood, two seats and an engine. People asked for more, Dodge delivered and people bought the new models. That's it. It's a matter of demand and supply, not some ridiculous enigmatic subject as "Linux not for certain people".
Please do not pollute this thread. We just want to use Affinity on Linux, if you don't like it, just leave this thread alone.

Move Along People reacted to JohannaH in Future of publishing
First of all, it's not my satisfaction, @William Overington. I started in this job in June last year and I'm still learning a lot about accessible documents. It's a complicated subject, but very interesting as well.
I'm pleased to hear you want to get this right.
As an author you can certainly do things. Some of which doesn't depend on the tags that are needed to make the PDF available to screenreaders and other tools for people with disabilities.
On this website at W3 you'll find techniques to make PDF's accessible. There are 23 pages about PDF, the link takes you to the first of them. https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20-TECHS/pdf_notes.html
Accessibility is also about the use of color, contrast of color, meaningful text, the title of the document (which you will see in the tab of the PDF reader), the right language, the use of headings in the right order (h1, h2, h3), reading order, and so on. If done right it'll help all your readers and it'll give all of them a better experience.

It seems to be a font specific problem. I checked with Arial and the problem is gone. Strange though: in Affinity itself both fonts are displayed perfectly. My colleague working on windows does not have these exporting issues...

Move Along People reacted to Jowday in Suggestion for a better german translating
In Danish we would probably use the Danish word for package. The word bundle/Bündel/bundt is never used in connection with software in Danish. Ever. The use of bundle in an IT context varies from country to country, so you may be right, @Uwe367 from what I know about German.
The Danish definition of bundle/Bündel/bundt :
uniform objects that are gathered tightly and most often held together by means of a string, an elastic band, etc. eg vegetables, newspapers or branches

Move Along People reacted to Merlin in Publisher - Can you export a file to Word?
It seems people are being unreasonable. I asked a question which I have the answer to. Affinity cannot export word files. I don’t need to be lectured that I don’t plan my work properly.
