Just to complete the sequence above:
Installed beta 2.2.1931 five minutes ago. Other than with version 2.2.1930 this version no longer crashes when loading *.afphoto files edited with version 2.2.18xx. Therefore no new thread necessary.
Good to see that things proceed.

Thanks for reopening the NVIDIA Optimize thread. I will check on my computer if this parameter is available and change accordingly.
Meanwhile I replaced the Game ready Driver with the latest Studio driver. It seems like the crashes after select operations are gone. Those with different Beta versions are still there. Next I will recheck the crash dump paths and open a new thread  for Beta versions crash.

It was the "new" license model of Adobe that made me look into Affinity Photo. After a short time of trying out I found a lot of workflow improvements over PS and consequently changed to that new product. And this was not a bad decision. The other Apps I purchased mainly in order to support Serif because I hardly need and use them. However, nothing is perfect, and so I, too, have some wishes towards Serif regarding AP as the focus:
    1. Stay with your actual license model and ask for extra money on updates when needed. On machines in production use, internet is a risk and costs performance. As we all are forced by leading companies to change hardware from time to time, it is convenient to keep internet on the "old" hardware separated.
    2. Solve annoying bugs in acceptable time and reduce number of beta versions in return if that helps
    3. Look more into workflow subjects (e.g. macro) than into new (Pro) features. Increase that intelligent little things that make it smart and fast to use
    4. A DAM from Serif would be nice but is not the urgent thing. There are products like AcdSee in the market which are sufficient in their features and ultra fast when using two screens for photo work.
BTW: I am not a Pro, but working speed is a must for me. Its often that I have appr. 2000 shots per Event on my storage card with resulting 50 to 100 photos to develop and process. And then its a real difference if you need 5 hours for that or 5 days. At present that is my most important feature of AP when I compare to other products.

@photoShooterYour question is well understood because no one ever knew exactly where to Affinity Apps are heading or not. On the other side: they did not request any money for years to pay their development (besides the low application cost for the first license fee). For most users, I assume, it will be more important to get the workflow streamlined inside the existing apps because they came from PS, etc. and were looking for an alternative offer without cloud, without monthly paying, without ...
If it helps: there are other good offers in the market which provide that DAM functionality together with a certain "adaption" to Affinity Apps (show .afphoto thumbnails, drag and drop to AP Editor) together with a fast response in large photo assets. If you are lucky and own a 2 screen working environment or a wide screen that workflow is even more efficient than with that famous bridge.

When doing mass editings on lots of files after a holiday or a shooting one could profit from the ability of automating save and close operations.
Therefore I request to include macro functionality in AP which enables to save and close an edited document in one macro operation using provided default settings.

Thanks for your detailing. But this is not the case which I want to speed up. I prepared for my work already some macros which do things like sharpen in one step instead of 3 or 4 steps. So I use 2 or three different macros and when I need sharpening I just start one out of those three, let it do its job and then next action. The same I want to achieve with save & close. Instead of save and ok and close I want to call a macro which does all in one call. That is not an important thing when you work on single pics only, but when you edit 30 or 40 in a sequence then it saves a lot of time. For example, when edit work is done, then an  export shall be done, then the save of the *.afphoto file and finally the document shall be closed. If one could do that using just one macro call this would speed up things a lot.
At present, AP macro does not support file operations at all, that is why I asked for such a feature.

    @R C-R:
It is a pity, but meanwhile we know that Adobe changed a lot in PS Interface and plugin vendors followed them. The 8bf still exists, but hardly works as before. Portrait Pro, Portraiture and NIK for example, are no longer fully compatible. You can only use them standalone. What a progress! In the music software industry however, VST is a standard which still works very good, and all software vendors profit from that, but 8bf is dead in the meantime. And therefore there will be a need for Serif with AP to look for agreements with plugin vendors, at least the most important ones, when AP shall further grow in the market.

I fully agree to that above request. That is why I still use 1.7.x for production and load the later versions only for test purpose. AP started in their first versions with the stress on efficiency and this was even an advantage over PS. Meanwhile that advantage faints piece by piece.

A lot of us moved to Affinity Photo because they do not like to stay online all the time. It is already a mess that Win 10 itself permanently disturbs work by its unwanted updates several times per week. I do not like that and therefore switch off Internet most of the time on my production machine. Who asked for that new feature? There are so many other asked features not done so far. Just remember of including save and close functionality within the macro recorder functionality which is open since years already. This would for sure be a useful thing which could speed up work a lot for those using a structured storage principle. And do not hesitate to charge in between for good new features. That is no problem, but keep on track please.

    UPDATE:
Things proceeded much faster than I expected because I had the old *.8bf files from V17 sitting somewhere on my computer as I made experiments with Photoshop at that time. The solution was to delete the *.8bf files dated from 2018 from the AP plugin directory and reference the old ones  from April 2017 (V17) instead via additional path in AP preferences/Plugins. There was no need to uninstall V18 for me. I guess if we had some old *.8bf files from Portrait Body we could make this one work as well. What a pity that I startet with V2 which had the *.8bf files from 2018 already. Perhaps you know someone who could test that for us and give us the proof.

Thanks for returning on that issue. And of course your experience is not unvalid. As I understood, you had V17 working and when V18 arrived you lost that functionality after installation. Well the difference to me is, as I understand it now, that you uninstalled V18, reinstalled V17 and then upgraded to V18 again. What I did was only upgrading V17 to V18 and then there was no function. I will try now to uninstall V18 first and then do your sequence. I will be back to report what happened the next days.
Meanwhile I got a response from Anthropics: They state only that there is no interest by Anthropics to support that interface to AP. Well, I think that I should inform them now that I lost interest in Anthropics products further on and will close  down the news channel. As I am informed there are other products available which do a very good job on that task and I will have a look to those products now.

Congratulations to the team who convinced so many users to give AP a try. Purchased immediately my own copy for windows after first viewing all the demo videos.
What I like is the bunch of ideas which improve workflow so much compared to the most referenced PS product. Especially the multiple "merge file" operations are convincing (HDR,stacking, etc.).
As there are tons of database and picture file administration tools it would be a nice "roundup" when the workflow:
File viewer-->AP-->Merge to HDR or other would be supported by a functionality like "collect all open files to a merge list" and select from there.
But in general I think it is a good procedure to not try to copy too much functionality from existing software products because the good ideas will get lost.
