It would be nice if we could invert the layer selection. This could be useful, for example, with documents with hundreds/thousands of layers/objects where we want to delete all of them except for the few objects we've selected on the canvas.

Yes, it was my intention to leave only these layers. I've stripped away all unnecessary layers from the file as they don't contribute anything to the bug report. No screenshots are needed. Yes, when I use OpenCL acceleration this problem doesn't appear (although I have other issues happen sometimes with OpenCL enabled so I leave it off).

Hello, I've got a document where the masks change (white patches appear) when the document's bit depth is changed from 8 bits to 16 bits. Hardware Acceleration/Open CL compute in Settings is turned off. Please check the attached file. Steps to reproduce: Open the file. Go to Document > Convert Format / ICC Profile... Change format from RGB/8 to RGB/16. Check the masks. White patches will appear in the masks. convert-to-16-bit-mask-changes.afphoto

Yes, such option would be greatly appreciated!!! I acknowledge the speed of Affinity Photo and I can attest to it. However, when I finish a project and go on to archive it, speed becomes irrelevant since most of the time it's not expected for me to work on it anymore (or at least not actively). In this case, I want my files to be as small as possible in order to save on disk space (cloud storage can be expensive with large imagery and other media!). 400mb is waaay too much for a simple 8-bit document at 4800x3200 px with a single image layer, I think you would agree. Now consider that I have at least 4 of these documents on average in a project and you get the idea of how quickly things start getting out of control sizewise. That's 1.4 GB of storage that shrinks down to just 75 MB when I use linked layers/purge the cache and archive with 7zip (I've just tested this). I certainly can use the workaround where I create a new document from scratch and copy all the contents from the old one in there and save again with a new name. However, this is really cumbersome and time consuming with a lot of documents when there could be a simple feature called "purge cache" or similar that removes all cached stuff from the file when the user is not expected to work on it actively and it's fine to wait a bit more for things to load next time. I hope you consider this feature. Let me know if I should post a new thread about it in the Feedback & Suggestions section.

Hello. I still have this problem with Affinity Photo 2.4.2. A document with a single linked image layer (PNG image) is almost 400mb. Can you kindly look into this issue? Would you like me to send you this document?

There's been an issue since the past few updates where picking colors by using the ALT+LMB shortcut crashes Photo to desktop. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm on Photo version 2.3.1. Are there any crash reports generated that I should send?

That's really odd. Why no option to change this? This must be the first software I've seen that doesn't allow its users to stop update checks (apart from Windows, which is understandable to a degree as an OS can become vulnerable to hacks if left outdated for a long time). I'm not really confident with fiddling in the registry. Unfortunately, I often have a lot of software that uses a lot of RAM running all at once, and also to clear my taskbar which is often filled up, so I can't leave Photo open all the time and I often have to close it at least 4-5 times a day. So I'm just going to be nagged to death? Looks like a bad design and user experience choice. I'm not a programmer, but I would imagine it wouldn't take that many hours to put a simple checkbox in the preferences that stops the update checks if there's already a hidden way to do it by messing with the Windows registry.

Hello, There are bugs in the newest version of Affinity Photo that compelled me to stay on the previous version (2.3.1). How do I disable the update message box that shows every time I start the software? I've looked everywhere in the preferences and I didn't see an option to disable update checking or showing of such messages. Is there no option to disable this message?

Thanks! It would be greatly appreciated if the last tool used is saved between sessions AND activating them don't select the topmost tool in their respective categories. That would be ideal.

Hi, @Chris J, Thanks for chiming in! Interesting. If that's the case, why does starting a new session show the last used tool in the toolbar? For example, If I've used the Inpainting Brush Tool and restart Photo, the default tool in this category is still the Inpainting Brush Tool, not the Healing Brush Tool. I think that the current behaviour is counter-intuitive. If I see the icon of a specific tool in the toolbar, I expect it to active when I use its shortcut, not revert to the topmost tool in that category, unless I deliberately use the SHIFT key. Would that not make more sense, and if not, why? It's highly confusing to see the tool's icon in the toolbar and using its shortcut activate another tool in that category. I don't see why the session being new should have anything to do with how this works.

I'm having the same problem as well. Holding down SHIFT doesn't keep the aspect ratio of the document. It just squishes the crop box for no reason. If I wanted the crop box to be squished, I would do this manually without holding SHIFT. What's the idea behind the current implementation and what purpose does it serve?

Good catch! I've never noticed this before. Same here on version 2.3.1.

Not sure if this is the case in the newest update, but in version 2.3.1 switching to another tab and then switching back to the previous one makes the layer panel reset its last known position before tabbing out of the document. This is quite annoying as I have to constantly scroll through the layers panel to get to where my view was every time I switch to another tab. Please see the video below. That's what I'm saying. I have tuned this option on and Photo still cycles the tools when I don't have the SHIFT key pressed.

I meant to say enabled, not disabled. Thanks for pointing out. I've edited the thread title and my message. The bug still stands though. Even when this option is enabled, Photo cycles the tools, but only one time and one tool until Photo is closed and started again. If I'm not mistaken, Photo shouldn't cycle the tools when "Use Shift key to cycle tool groups" is enabled and no SHIFT key is pressed. From the official help file: I've not pressed the SHIFT key, yet Photo cycles the tool.
