Someone just gave me an excellent idea. As the price of AD is excellent and decent. Maybe i can just buy the license for my clients. But i wish AD adds prototyping soon.

Guys, it would be nice, however not all elements made with AD can be converted into CSS. The fast way to share a vector shape is the SVG and I'm able to copy / paste the code between several apps.

I wish to copy (or export) the style of an object as CSS.

For example: Like you can do it in Photoshop

    ...or within Sketch

...or in Autodesk Graphic / iDraw.

Why not? Affinity Designer is a direct competitor to XD and I wanted to discuss what you think about it. :) It's not like I want to bash XD, but I'm really disappointed. We've been waiting pretty long now and the current state is just underwhelming.

When I need interactive wireframes I use Axure, which is great as long as you don't need actual design. I am keeping an eye on Adobe Experience, but a software like Affinity Designer with Axure-like interaction tools (even partially) would be a killer app.

From an UI/UX designer's perspective i think the best would be to integrate with web tools like avacode, sympli, invisionapp inspect etc.

That would cut down the need to produce PSD. Because i need to export as PSD to give it to my clients so that they can get attributes. As most people don't have AD. I wish they did.

It would be nice if it's done quickly. This is for now seems to be the only reason keeping me from completely ditching Adobe. If it's get done then i won't need Adobe at all.

I will write a post about it.

@Brian I think it was actually about using AD. I mean the features that help with web design. I will try to find. Or you can just google affinity designer udemy. He teaches the tools required.

I am busy with work so i couldn't find it. I will try to find it and share.

Hey there zunaoid, sometimes I make the design first in affinity, but for showing the motion/interaction I redo the design in Webflow, and record the screen by using Filmora.

I use Filmora because it allows me to set the frame size I want and also record/save in GIF.

For the image size, when you upload in attachments, post your post, refresh page, click the thumbnail and at the bottom you can see a save text with an icon.

It opens the original size of the image in a new tab, right click the image, copy image url, then edit your post again and click the image upload icon in your post editor, paste it in.

Would love to do a video to show what I mean, but laptop is currently down. Waiting for a part to fix the problem.

Zunaid got a reaction from Teo_ in [AD] Useful features for UI/UX Designers (Which ones and Why)
My experience (in brief) : I bought AD mostly for UI/UX design and some illustration design. Overall my experience is good.

    Some good things :

    - I felt it addressed a lot of problems that photoshop and illustrator had when it comes to UI Design.

    - Exporting Persona is great.

    - Overall it's good even though i haven't used it extensively.

Problem is when i am finished with the design. I am having trouble giving my clients the source file. Only that is keeping me from leaving Adobe completely.

    Reason :

    1. Most don't use Affinity Designer.

    2. Png Export is great but clients/developers need source file : Psd, Ai or sketch.

    3. PSD export has some issues e.g. exporting of text, gradient are two which i came across for now. So can't give PSD export files.

    Solution (Feature Requests) :

    1. A free affinity designer trial. It can have limited features. But the client and developer can use them to get attributes. So no need for PSD export. I can just tell them to download the trial version. Problem solved to a certain extent.

    2. Making PSD export files better.  Making the text editable and solving other issues.

[Problem with this] This is a tough one. Adobe is not the only competitor. There is also sketch which is getting popular day by day.
Then there is XD. So making export perfect for all this is time consuming, inefficient.

*3. Integration with web apps like invisionApp, Zeplin, Avacode or Sympli (I think Sympli is working on affinity designer version). This will solve many problems. It will reduce the need to make PSD export perfect. Affinity can then stand as a UI/UX tool on it's own. Similar to Sketch. Sketch doesn't need to export their files to PSD.

    4. Plugins. There are different types of plugins some will make the workflow easy and some are important because it allows integration with web apps. (Mentioned in point 3)

I would suggest it would be better if they can collaborate with InvisionApp.

    Reason :

-InvisionApp supports both windows and mac users unlike many tools like principle and filnto etc.

    - A decent prototyping tool.

    - Inspect feature is similar to Zeplin, Avacode or Sympli. Reducing the need to give PSD source files to client.

    - Motion (still in progress) : Competitor to Principle/Flinto.

I have read in many posts that these features are being highly sought after and lack of it is sadly becoming a problem in replacing Adobe / Sketch with Affinity Designer for UI/UX designers.

    Hi Zunaid,
Look at the label after the layer's name in the Layers panel. It must be identified as (Layer), otherwise this will not work. That layer type can only be created in Affinity Designer.

Is this in a new document or an existing one? If it is an existing document, has it been imported from another app? I've attached a screenshot which may help.

    As I said, make sure you aren't right-clicking a rasterized/pixel layer.

AD is almost perfect except after design there is a problem with sending files to the client. Most uses Adobe. So integration with invisionapp, zeplin or other similar would be perfect.

Hello. I watched affinity designer more than a year. As soon as the beta for windows I downloaded it immediately. Once the program came from the beta - I bought it immediately. Soft good, very good. So good that I almost immediately replaced by CorelDrow and Photoshop.

I immediately tried to use Affinity Designer for Web Design. And experimental success! But two things I was very disappointed: 1. I made a design, and then what? Adobe brackets - works well, but the PSD files in affinity is not very good. Because text. The text is translated in a raster. Because of this, it is impossible to take css for text. Avocode - this is again psd. Again the same problem. Zeplin. I was not able to import the template file, because you need to download the plugin for Photoshop. And I do not want to use Photoshop. I now appeal to Affinity Designer developers. Look at this: https://zeplin.uservoice.com/forums/255350-got-any-suggestions/suggestions/8480671-support-for-affinity-designer Members Zeplin want it. Members Affinity disigner want the same. Perhaps you could work together for this !? I finished the layout for the site, but it was hard. Without a suitable tool for the layout of the site, work hard. Please pay attention to it. I'm not alone in his desire to https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/16975-zeplinio-integrationcooperation/ 2. Typografy. Affinity designer allows you to assign styles to text. As <h1>, <h2>, etc. or as a <p> <ul / li>. But the styles of text to work inconvenient. I would like to work with typography as well as going to work with symbols. If there was such a possibility - this would be ideal. Thank you for your work. You've done a terrific product. I hope that in time he will become only better. P. S. Sorry for the broken English. I hope it will also better with time))

    Hello
I exported an affinity file as PSD. I opened it with photoshop cs6 and tried to edit the text. It seems i can't edit the text as it was not exported as editable text.

Same was the case for import but it was solved from Preference option.

Is there a way to export text as text for PSD? Most of my client will not PSD export as they don't have AD.

Good idea. I like AD and i bought it for UI and UX design. So adding plugins and prototyping features would be great and complete the app for UI/UX designer.

As a windows user this is a place where i am struggling. I use invision a lot and it's geared around sketch and photoshop mostly. And many others apps like principle, framer.js are all seem to be targeting MAC users.

It would be awesome if AD windows can somehow gets plugins to connect with invision or other popular platforms.
