jmoren got a reaction from dev.designer in Photoshop layer styles -- any way to convert?
    Hello.
Any updates on this topic ? I understand that Affinity team can't just replicate every feature of PS, but some support to import layer styles & PAT files would be great.
    Regards.

Thanks, it's not a bad workaround. Let's hope they could include this feature in future releases.

jmoren got a reaction from zenmom in Affinity Designer: measure line/path length
    Hello,
Just doing other things I have 'discovered' that there is a tool that can solve my problem: the info panel.
Yes, if I just change the ruler to measure in mm (or your favorite unit) and use the info panel, you can see the X and Y values live on the info panel that gives you your position in mm (or any other measure).
Then I noticed that I have also the W:, H:, D: and A: that usually are empty. Ok, so now just select the V tool, click on a starting point and drag to make a selection box, you will see that, over your cursor the W (width) and H (heigh) values just appear on your selection box, in mm (if you are into your canvas you don't see any selection box). On the info panel the W: and H: values also appear but in px, and also the D (diagonal) and A (angle) also appear. This is a really valuable info, because if I create a selection box starting on point A and ending on point B, the D(iagonal) is just the distance between such points. Also I have the angle of the diagonal (A:). The only problem is that, on the panel info, W H and D appear on px, not in mm (or the selected mesaure for the ruler).
How can I change the info panel so the W H D values appear on the correct measuring unit? For me, the tool I need is implemented yet, I just need to see the values on the correct unit.
Notice the atached  image, I drew a box, starting from the outside of my image, so you can see the box, width and height on the main window, also you can see X Y (in mm) W H D (in px) and A(ngle) on the info panel. If I select a box inside the image I can't see any selection box on the main window, but I still see X Y W H D A on the info panel. So, for me, the D(iagonal) is the most interesting data, it's just the distance between two points BUT is measured in pixels, I need to mesaure in mm.
SO => how can I set up the info panel, so the W H D is measured in mm? C'mon Affinity team..., just add it in a future release, all the work is done...

    Regards,
    Javier.

It's me again, more checkings mostly with the Viveza plugin:
On AP I have the Adobe RGB as the default color space, Relative colorimetic rendering,  convert opened files to working space and warn.
    A. I open a sRGB file
The file is converted to aRGB, so I convert the profile to sRGB again, load the plugin and the colors seem ok, any zoom level.
    B. I open an aRGB file
I convert the file to sRGB, load the plugin, colors seem more or less OK, but the image is a bit more contrasty, sharper and saturated. I didn't made any adjustment. The navigator doesn't show correct colors. If I choose to apply the plugin, nothing happens in AP. So the image is show near on Viveza, but not 100%. If I load Color Efex and delete all the conversions, the colors, tone, etc, seems correct.
    C. I open a Prophoto file
The file is converted to aRGB, then I convert the file to sRGB (two conversions), load the plugin, same as B., more contrasty, sharper and saturated. Good on Color Efex.
If I configure AP with sRGB as default color space, automatic conversions etc.
    A. To me is exactly the same
    B. & C. At minimum zoom level, the colors are off, but at 33%, 50% and 100% are OK. Colors on Viveza navigator are off. Color Efex is OK.
    Regards.

I really would like these plugins to work with AP. I use LR 4.4 (never upgrade to 5 or 6), DAM and basic edition. If the pic needs more editing then I export to TIFF or PSD and continue in AP. Sometimes I need to add a touch with an effect (Glow, sunshine... this kind of thigs). I can quickly add it with ON1 but, then I have three applications, I want to simplify. My idea was to use the Nik plugins from AP and get similar effects to ON1.
    So... we'll have to wait

    Hello,
You are not alone. I use the aRGB color space in my workflow and, when I send and image to Color/Viveza/etc everything seems washed out... colour, tones... it's useless for me, sorry.
I remember that, with the old version and some plugins you could see the correct colours zooming at 100%, but now it doesn't work, so for me, it's worse.

Hello, my vote for the measure tool. I just need the most basic tool, to measure the distance from two points on canvas. I've seen several workarounds to meause the distance between two points, but the best is to have a tool that could measure distante from point A and point B. Just click/select point A, then point B, get the measure in pixels, inches, centimeters, etc ... done.
Angle measuring could be good to have too.

Thanks, I've seen that. Really useful, why not add the Alternate options for the normal brush ?

The 'Alternate' dropdown allows you to specify which option will be used when dragging with the CTRL modifier held down. If you select 'Erase' and look at the hint line it will show "DRAG+Ctrl to erase". If you change the dropdown to 'Background colour' the hint line will show "DRAG+Ctrl to use background color".

I was surprised to not see this mentioned in the help - I will see if we can get this added.

jmoren got a reaction from SrPx in sometimes paint brush doesn't work
    Hello,

Same issue here, but I have a way to reproduce the issue (AP beta 1.5.1.54, Windows 7, wacom intuos CTH-480 tablet):

    1.I open a pic where I'm working (three layers, 3200 x 5000 px, aRGB)
2.Select one of the DAUB brushes, ex. DAUB Bristles, Large Fibers | Dense Gouache
3.Paint something over my image with my wacom tablet (pressure controls size checked)
    4.Then I create a new document, 1350 x 1800, aRGB
5.Draw something with the same brush on the new document
6.Then I go back to my first image.
7.I try to paint something, but nothing is painted. On the second (new) document, the brush works OK.
    8. Reopen my first doc.
    9. Paint on first doc with the brush, it works again.
    10. Try to paint on the second/new doc, now it fails.
    etc...
So it seems to fail when I open a second doc and use the brush there.

I discovered that this brush have on dynamics: flow jitter 100%, pressure. If I lower the flow jitter value, I can paint again, darker as I lower this value, but doesn't work with the original 100% value. So If I want to recover the brush, I have to reopen the image.

    Regards.

    Hello,

I have Windows 7, Wacom Intuos CTH-480 with driver 6.3.16-2.
I noticed the lag with the history panel opened. The performance is much better with that panel closed.

jmoren reacted to MarcoDebiasi in [AP] Improvements of Curves Function
    Hi,

I am another user interested in Affinity Photo as an alternative to Photoshop.

I have been familiarizing and playing with it after installing the beta version for Windows on my computer.
Overall it is OK. It is somewhat different from Photoshop and this will require me to go through some learning, all of which is fair and expected.
A part from bugs that need fixing, I think there is space for better implementation of some functions some of which are being reported in this forum.

I am adding one myself for the Curves function (under Tones in the Develop Persona).
Unless I am missing something, in its current implementation the curves function of Affinity allows to place and move points in the curve but does  not show the values of the input and output coordinates of the points. This makes very difficult (in fact, almost impossible) to exactly reproduce a similar curve profile on different photos. Photoshop not only shows the input and output values of each selected point of a curve, but also allows to directly enter such values in the corresponding fields without having to drag each point.
Also, similar to Photoshop, I think that showing a curve and its corresponding hystogram overlapped in the same graph helps to much better evaluate the effect of modifying a curve.

I hope this and other practical improvements will be implemented in Affinity to make its current and already quite impressive set of features even stronger.

    Regards,
