What I long for in Designer are the various Perspective operations of Photoshop's Free Transform:
Where you pull the corners/sides of the bounding box with various modifiers to skew perspective.
But effecting A.D.'s vectors, of course.

This is much more urgent to me than a Mesh distort.
    Mesh distort is an entire stealth bomber program;
     all I need is a functioning grenade-launcher!

    Thank you.

pbass got a reaction from Barnabas Thomas in Copy a Node/Segment, or a Selection of Them
Love to be able to copy single nodes, line segments, or a selection of nodes – including the exact geometry of any curve handles – and then paste it/them into the front node an open curve.
With the option of pasting its mirror version – vertical, horizontal, or both.

It is very hard to manually make a curve exactly match another one.
Repeatability is crucial for precise work.

Snapping control handles (when they arrive) will sure help, but copy/paste of any of a curve's (or shape's) selected bits would be supremo!

You can easily copy an entire curve/shape, but not parts of one.
You can do the former, delete what you don't need, and then attach the bits you need; but that's a long way round.

I apologize if you've heard any or all of this before (and please correct me if any of this is already possible).

Oh, and as Sven Kalkschmidt already suggested, the functionality of the following Illustrator plugin looks amazingly useful:

I'm far from an expert with vectors, but when I watch most of the in-house vids at Affinity, I keep thinking to myself "I'm glad I already know what that term means", or "I'm glad I understand that the colour wheel effects 2 different parameters, depending on whether circle or donut is selected".

There are a zillion small things that are perplexing until someone explains them to us. And unlike with Adobe products, there aren't shelves & shelves of books available at all levels.

The problem is that videos are usually made by experts who are so immersed in the programs that they've lost all track of just how much complexity they've absorbed over the years. They can't even imagine what it's like to not know, for instance, what a stroke is.

I think the product could really benefit from Square One videos. Ideally, they should be made by someone whose field is teaching, and who has learned about vectors only recently!

pbass got a reaction from anon1 in Vertical versus Horizontal Workspace – Flip!
It occurs to me that people who work with their faces close to a big screen like a 27" iMac won't see what the big deal is – toolbars are thin.
But many of us make do with smaller screens – even MacBooks. Then the horizontal toolbars (set to a legible UI prefs zoom level), rob significant, already-scarce vertical space.

Ever notice that your workspace/interface needs are quite different when you're working in
    1) Portrait orientation
       versus
    2) Landscape orientation?

It's already quite constraining that computer screens are landscape-shaped – who ever told Steve Jobs and Bill Gates that computers should prioritize left-right over up-down??
Blame the fact that CRT displays evolved from Television tubes. :^(  But damn them for making LCD screens even more h-o-r-i-z-o-n-t-a-l!

But if you're designing a vertical layout or (lord have mercy on you!) an actual vertical portrait, you're reduced to cursing the gods of prevailing horizontality.

We portraitists have to make the best of it, and get every vertical obstruction off to the side of the screen.

    Affinity, you can HELP!
Please give us the option of switching the Toolbar into a vertical bar! (I know you'd have to figure something out for the doc tabs & parameter readouts, but you'll sort it out in your usual clever way.)

A gift from heaven would be a toggle/switch command to flip from your usual interface layout, to one customized for portrait/vertical documents – with a vertical Toolbar.

(I'm aware of Separated Mode and Toggle Full Screen – very helpful. But I need the toolbar and the info read-out, and don't want to be constantly Tab-Toggling interface On & Off, or Tool Bar Opt-Cmd-T.)

    Thanks for your serious consideration!

pbass got a reaction from fuli42 in An option to hide handles and bounds of objects?
Was really struggling with this issue today – nodes & handles & other tool's nerdy stuff obscuring the movements I was trying to make.

I would love it if, once you've grabbed something, and are commencing manipulating it, the Spacebar makes the nodes and handles & stuff momentarily disappear from view.

But imho something similar to Illy's 'Hide Edges' [Ctrl-H, Com-H] is _really_ needful. Please consider this ASAP, devs.

I way over-generalized in my earlier email, saying gradients irredeemably date an icon. The use of varied brightness in Plokhi's versions here are subtle and effective – just enough to suggest light. These are starting to look closer to 2015.

The only thing I still don't care for is all the sharp corners. My unfortunate association with these shapes is with the cover of a 1990's math textbook. :^/
What about softening the contours with that jiffy new corner tool?

We do have a massive number of posts to read since Photo went on sale - way more than when we just had Designer out there.  So, if we don't respond immediately, it's not because we are ignoring posts.  There's just a lot of them now!  ...and we also have to write some code.

Ben, thanks for following up.  I've been using your suggested way to draw beziers on fixed angles, and like you said, it's not ideal but it's a solution for now.

As I'm sure you know, there's not really a way for us to know that a request or bug is being heard unless we get confirmation from a moderator.  So again, thanks for following up and letting us know that this is in the queue.

We plan on iterating our icons in the coming years so will probably need your help again. Keep hold of all those opinions for the next round.

    Hi,

I hate being critical of someone's hard work and intense thought; but I can't resist weighing in.

By retaining the exact same contour as the original icons, the new ones do not – to my eye – subtly suggest the 3d form of the previous ones. They simply look like an odd, _semi-random_ blocky flat shape. My suggestion would be: if you want to have an up-to-date, flat graphic, then drop the remnant contours of the old icons' depth.

The other thing is: Gradients just date an icon. Instantly, and beyond redemption. :^(
(Imho, even Apple-esque shiny-highlight gradients have seen their day.)

So sorry for my bluntness; I do, absolutely, appreciate the care and skill you put into the new designs.
The intentions are good; I think the old icons _could_ be updated and simplified.
