    Fuji Film Simulations

    Hello, I've created some HaldCLUT profiles based on Fuji's film simulations that work great with Affinity Photo's LUT adjustments. Simply create a LUT adjustment, select "Infer LUT" and in the first dialogue pick "Hald CLUT Identity 12.png" and in the second your chosen simulation. Version: 1.5.1.54 After seeing your tutorial on working in ProPhoto and exporting to sRGB (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dGJsQiQsYs) I set up AP to work like this; documents are converted to ProPhoto on opening and my export profile is set to sRGB as per the video. However, this is producing incorrect results. It seems that the output profile is being applied BEFORE the layers are merged leading to different colours. From the video I expected it to be applied AFTER, i.e. as if you'd first done a "Merge Visible" then converted the profile to sRGB. To reproduce: Open an image in a ProPhoto or other profile. Apply HSL, White Balance or curves layer adjustments. Export a jpg with sRGB selected as output profile. Note the colours do not match AP. Convert the document to sRGB, note that they do now match. The behaviour I expect should be as stated in the video and as if I performed the following actions: With document still in ProPhoto, select Merge Visible. Convert the document to sRGB; note the colour does NOT change. Is this the expected behaviour? Thanks in advance!
  4. Thanks for the reply Chris. Just to be clearer, what I was seeing was the exported JPG was not the same as the result of merging and converting, but it did look the same as just converting the un-flattened image. I will try what you suggested tonight though and update the thread with an example.

  6. Hi, I've noticed when creating a preset for an adjustment layer the opacity and blend mode are saved however the blend options (Source Layer Ranges etc) are not - is that intentional? Cheers.

    Thanks again for following up. Actually I've noticed that Fuji's RAW File Converter also applies a small amount of correction too. I have another file with the same lens where the difference is more pronounced (a beard goes quite blurry) but it contains family members and I'd rather not share it publicly. Cheers.
  8. Hi, I've come across an issue with the automatic lens correction in Develop Persona. I was testing out the new Fuji RAW converter for windows from the creator of Iridient Developer on an old file, and when I opened the same RAW in AP it was really really soft in comparison to ID and RawTherapee, and no amount of sharpening/clarity in Develop or Photo could get it close. After a lot of messing about I discovered it was caused by the auto-lens corrections applied by the Assistant. If I opened the RAW with it disabled and manually corrected the distortion with the sliders then AP produced the same amount of sharpness and detail as the other two (which is great by the way!). The lens used in this image is the Fuji XC 16-50mm which has quite a lot of distortion. I've attached some 100% crop examples; the ID version used "max" sharpening, the AP versions used 10% radius with 100% amount + 1% clarity. I can also provide the RAW if that would be useful. There's also one more thing you'll notice in this image - the grass colours are different between AP and ID/RT. I don't think it's white balance as I couldn't correct that way. I was able to match it to the others by applying a small hue shift to the yellows via HSL adjustment. I wouldn't say I prefer one over the other but thought I'd point it out - are such differences between converters normal? Cheers!

    Thanks Sean, I can confirm the problem is much improved in the beta - I now get identical results on the file I provided. I tried a RAW using a different lens however (Fuji XF 35mm) and whilst it was better than before it's still not quite as sharp as with corrections disabled. The weird thing is there is quite obviously a small amount of distortion correction applied however that lens is optically correct and shouldn't need any. The difference is small but still there, here's an example: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1-qQFVsKcUbelpNQ1VkR0JjRlU Simply open it with and without corrections enabled zoom to 100% and apply the same sharpening as before (radius 10%, amount 100%).

    Unfortunately my RAW file is larger than the 20MB attachment limit, even when zipped. Repro steps: Open RAW with lens correction enabled Enable sharpening: 10% radius, 100% amount Observe softness at 100% zoom Turn off lens correction in assistant and open RAW again Optionally set distortion correction to -13% and scale to 107% Enable sharpening: 10% radius, 100% amount Compare at 100%, the image has lots more detail and sharpness. I've just seen on your latest beta release there was a bug fix related to lens corrections - I'll give that a go in the next couple of days to see if it makes a difference. Cheers.

    Thanks for the quick response :) Apologies, after further experimentation the highlight problem isn't much of an issue; the image where it was particularly bad I think I'd actually moved the Highlights slider up as a quick way of improving contrast, naturally this made the blown highlight a lot worse. They are still slightly more clipped than RT such as in the attached example (Affinity on the left), but it's not very noticeable at normal viewing distance and can be easily softened with the blur tool. I will update the thread if I find a more severe example.

    Hello, this is my first post. I'm trying out AP as a possible replacement for my current RawTherapee/Photoline workflow, and it's a great piece of software! The amount of detail out of Fuji RAWs matches and sometimes exceeds RT which I wasn't expecting (never seen so many pores on a person's face), and the UX is much nicer and faster than Photoline. I have seen a few bugs with the Develop Persona I thought I'd mention though. Version 1.5.0.45: Time to load a RAW is quite slow, loading the same 16mp Fuji RAW on my machine:AP takes 19 seconds for initial load (plus 1-3 seconds to apply settings when moving to Photo Persona). RT takes 3 seconds for initial load, then 8 seconds on export. When you apply sharpening the image looks over-sharpened when zoomed out / fit-to-screen then when you click the Develop button it noticeably softens making it difficult to judge the correct amount to use. Note that 100% zoom is fine, it looks like it might be applying the sharpening to the current preview bitmap and not the original? Assistant settings don't seem to be saved; if I set Tone Curve to "Take no action" it will persist when loading multiple RAWs in the same instance of AP, but when I close and reopen it goes back to default.Auto-lens correction works great, but can't be disabled; setting it to "Take no action" does nothing. Sometimes I want the original distorted image.If I select a preset for a tab (e.g. I have one which applies a default sharpen), when I load another RAW the preset is still shown as selected in the drop down box but isn't applied, and clicking it does nothing. I have to select Default then select the preset again to activate it.Small blown highlights (fairy lights / cars in the distance) can look pretty harsh compared to RT. I can prepare an example if desired.I'm really impressed with AP overall though, great job guys :-) Cheers, arangast
