Another question from a novice user... I've imported an image into Affinity Designer and would like to change the black tree silhouette to purple (or any other color).  What is the easy three step process I'm missing?

Greeting, all:

 

I am brand new to graphic design and Affinity Designer (my 31 years of AutoCAD experience is hampering me  :)).  I have an image (attached) with a great deal of "white" that I would like to make transparent to the objects below. Is there a way to mask these areas by swapping a transparent color for white or through some other cool magic?
