  1. RC-R - When the text is dragged completely off the artboard only the selected 'tool handles' show, and when I deselect the item its completely invisible. See attachments.
  2. I may be doing this AD artboard >page> pasteboard> all wrong, see attachment and my link to actions I have been having trouble with. AD 1.6.0 artboards - video tutorials are earlier version
  3. If I temporarily move an item from the artboard page to the pasteboard, it disappears to the back. I can't find a default that allows it to be permantly seen as in Adobe Illustrator. Advice please.
  4. I am trialling AD and am having trouble placing secondary artboards, as an Adobe Illustrator user it may be that I am hanging on to old habits. I have successfully migrated from Adobe Photoshop to AP and wish to do the same with this AD vector package. The problem - General problems with additional artboards etc. I click on the Artboard tool and try to drag a new artboard adjacent to the existing one and it draws it OK, but then everything else goes black including the original artboard and pasteboard - content of the first artboard remains unaffected. The original artboard returns but the pasteboard stays black. Plus I seem to lose the layers and acquire new ones. The video tutorials are for earlier versions of AD and are different to how 1.6.0 behaves.
  5. MEB - thanks, thats a workaround that will do for the present and I hope in the future AP aligns its 'Resize Document' more in keeping with the 'Image Size' in PS. I have been finding that AP sometimes does a thing very differently than I am used to in PS, and I must and will adapt to work differently. However, this is one time where the PS dialog is superior to APs one.
  6. Ownr, I must be missing something in AP Resize as I am not getting what I can get in PS. In AP no matter if Resample is on or off I cannot get the mm sizing to change when I change the ppi as I do in PS. The pixels change but not the mm size, so how does one easily ascertain the physical size of the document. See videos AP Screen_Recording.mov PS Screen_Recording.mov
  7. Thanks all for such prompt replies, did not notice the locked layer which of course is the problem, also I did not realise the 'X' corners meant it was locked. After using PS since 1990 I sometimes miss the obvious in AP. However, I am determined that AP will replace my PS program and despite the excellent training videos I can see the fast response of this forum will be an essential part of my transition.
  8. I want to custom rotate multiple layers, I can find fixed rotational parameters, but not a custom one. When the Move Tool is used, all the layers elements are selected but the corner manual rotation double arrow is not there - see attached screenshot. I have tried using various keyboard actions with the Move Tool but to no avail. I need the multiple layers to all rotate accurately, so individual layer rotations are not effective and I do not want to flatten to rotate. In PS this is easily achievable, what am I missing in AP.
  9. I have and issue with 'Resize Document', I have been using the PS 'Image Size' for years and am confused as to why AP does not automatically calculate and show the reduced mm size when I change the ppi. For example in PS when I have an image at 72ppi and 200x 200mm and key in 300ppi the mm size changes to 48x48mm, as a artist referring to hard copy drawings I find this very useful. If I do the same in AP and change the 72ppi to 300ppi the mm size stays at 200x200ppi. I see that the pixels change, but I need to see the reduced mm size, it may be that 'resizing an image' AP works differently from PS and I have to learn a new trick, but as yet I cannot find it. See images attached.
  10. Well thats enlightening, but I am disinclined to renew my reasonably new Ricoh laser printer to accommodate AP's use of the Mac OS interface for print dialogs, I hope that this can rectified in AP future upgrades. However, until that time comes I will use the toltec workaround as AP is just too good and wonderful value for money to ignore.
  11. The Canon does offer the Custom format, but I need to resize on the fly as the requirements are generally flexible. The toltec workaround will do the job for me until AP provides a more versatile Print Dialog. Many thanks for helping with my problem.
  12. This has been replied to in a different string by toltec with a workaround option.
  13. toltec - I did not know of the embedding option, I will use this to overcome my immediate print dialog problem. I do not think its as elegant as the PS print dialog, but until AP updates to a more versatile print dialog window this workaround is good alternative. Many thanks again. v_kyr - I do not have these dropdown options - see attached images.
  14. Yes, thats a good workaround and I will use it, the problem occurs when you have multiple layers and the need to flatten it first and unflatten it afterwards - it all gets messy when you need to be quick. However, thanks again for your responses.
  15. Its not the A4 printer that is restrictive to the sort of use I have need of as an artist, it is the lack of being able to position the image on the fly. In other words, to be able to click the thumbnail and move the image around within the A4 ratio area and to position what one wants it to print. Artists will want to print sections of a scanned drawing where for example he/she will want to make the hands slightly larger than the original drawing. So they will print and match it to the original hard copy drawing, this is just tool to to use as preparation for a painting/artwork. If I wanted to do the same with the feet, I can't because I cannot move the image around. See attached video link. PS thumbnail move print.mov (iPad, iPhone 4 & Apple TV).m4v I did use the 'Open in Preview' in the print dialog, which did give a correct visual sized thumbnail, but I could not move the image around in the thumbnail - see attached image. Its the speed of use I want as I constantly amend drawings this way, to do it at document level is too time consuming. This is I believe an AP print dialog issue and if AP wants to attract artists as well as designers, photographers etc. it will need to emulate PS in providing this facility. Sorry its a long reply, but it is also intended for any Affinity staff who may monitor these communications, thanks for trying to help.
  16. I have a high spec Ricoh laser printer and a Canon Ink Jet printer and neither will give me the options you seem to have. This surprises me as I can get lots of options from these printers in other programs. Is there something else you are doing and I am not/missing to enable these printing options.
  17. How did you get that dropdown menu shown within your Print Dialog window, I have tried and cannot find it?
  18. 'Don't others miss that feature? I have to resize the canvas and image every time I want a new print size?' ..... Yes, I would like the Print dialog to have the same print resizing facilities as PS, as an artist I work with a photo manipulation program and with the hard copy original drawing. At the moment I have to take the AP scanned 'working image' into PS to print the sections I need quickly. The proposed work-around is just not fast enough for working artists.
  19. Does anyone know of a company who can supply filters that could do the job. I really want AP (and AD) to work for me as I am using Adobe Creative Suite 4 on Mac OS Sierra and its at the end of its limit.
  20. I am also an artist and am trying to make AP my default, leaving Adobe altogether. I use the Trace Counter and Find Edges facility to augment scanned in drawings and I use them both a lot, but Detect Edges in AP does not produce the same result and I cannot find a Trace Contour equivalent at all in AP.
  21. As an artist I have used Photoshop for over 25 years and in the print dialog you are able to adjust the size of the print or part of the print on the fly. In Affinity Photo I cannot get it to show the change of size at all, or move it around in the thumbnail to get the position I want. It also seems to show an artboard that is far larger then the document. I want to print only sections of the drawing shown on the attached image, doing this on the actual document is time consuming as I do not always know what size is best until I have printed it and matched it to the original drawing, the Affinity print dialog is not as intuitive as I want. I am impressed with Affinity and desperately want to leave Adobe and its greedy price structures, but this facility is essential to how I work. Am I doing something wrong or is the print dialog really this primitive. See attached images.
  22. Affinity certainly supplies a lot of very good video tutorials, but heres the rub - there are so many and the problem I am seeking a solution for - PS Transform/Distort, I cannot find a direct equivelent to change corners without curved warping- may have a different title to the known PS title. I have watched so many videos but still cannot find the solution. I am sure this feature is available in AP, if anyone can narrow the video search i would be pleased to hear from them.
  23. I am trialling Affinity Photo to replace Adobe Photoshop (also Designer and eventually Publisher) and I am impressed with the program, but I have some queries: Resizing does not show the MB size as in PS, is it shown anywhere else when using the resize PS Transform/Distort, I cannot find a direct equivelent to change corners without curved warping Adding a gradient using the artists-palette icon on the Swatches/Gradients palette does not work I have lightened the grey on the Background but cannot (apart from using the Gamma) lighten the very dark grey dark of the workspace palettes/tools etc - I am assuming this is not an option
  24. I ran the Disk first aid, verification and permissions repair and managed to get it back to default. I am not risking the error repeating the OS screw-up as iI wish to evaluate the program. I am unconcerned if this is a glitch temporarily on my iMac/AffinityDesigner, I am assuming a purchased Affinity Designer will to be a complete new program installation. I am also trialing the Affinity Photo and the workspace option works fine.
