  1. AF Photo Emboss FX is always soft and only sharpens at a thin level, I have being trying different combinations and cannot get a hard edged bevel at the size In want. I have attached a Photoshop jpg file 'Video intro image bevel 2018' with a hard edge and a Affinity Photo ope file with a ver y soft edge, what am I doing wrong?

  2. While I am here is there any photo artistic filters available to AP, like you get in Photoshop?
  3. I have always wondered why when I crop an image I get 'overspill', noticeable when I want to use the Perspective tool etc. Its always been irritating to have to work outside the visual image perimeter, how do I make it just the size of the image after cropping. See attached image.
  4. This file is sensitive only for me, it will sit on my computer (plus backups) and I just want to be able to password protect it. I can find a third party work-around, I just wondered if it was available at the point of saving in AP. Thanks for the replies.
  5. I could use the 'Get Info' but have not always found this unsatisfactory, I wanted to set a password on the file to prevent others from viewing the file.
  6. Is it possible to apply a password to a AP file, I looked around the program but could find nothing, am I missing something?
  7. The master Affinity document is a .afphoto image and is 420 x 510 px with multiple layers, before exporting (to a jpg) I flattened the .afphoto image to a single layer and in the Export window I reduced the pixels to 70x85px - result, image is still tiny when imported to Freeway web program. I tried ticking the 'Don't export layers hidden by Export Persona' when exporting the image - result, image is still tiny when imported to Freeway web program. If I change the .afphoto image from 420 x 510px @300ppi to 70 x 85px @72ppi before Exporting it the resulting jpg image fits perfectly into my Freeway web program, but the image is not as good as the Photoshop Save for the Web version. I have to move on this site, so reluctantly I will use Photoshop Save for the Web, because it works.
  8. The canvas size says its 70x85px and the Transform palette stays the same, ‘Clip Canvas’ command has no effect, which I would expect.
  9. Experimenting with an image in AP, I use the Export window and change the image from 420x 510px to 70x85pix without altering anything else to produce a low memory good looking image. However, as has happened before with AP exporting, when I import into my Freeway web program it is very small, much smaller than the 70x85 graphic box its supposed to fill - see image. This may be a Freeway thing, but it does not happen when using PS generated web images and the response to 'show original size' in Freeway does not alter its minute size.
  10. I have been in the graphics industry for a long time and now I have to unlearn all we thought we knew to be right about screen resolution images. I read the article and will need to read it again to fully absorb the mental changes I will have to make, I will experiment to try and get what I want without resorting to Photoshop. Thanks to everyone who contributed to my 're-education'.
  11. Thanks for your info, however, I cannot find this particular Resampler menu anywhere. Please advise.
  12. Sorry, the master image is 420x510px which is 6 times the intended 70x85px ratio. However, I am unsure what the master size has to do with the final web size if I know the sort of resolution quality I will get (and do get with PS Save for Web) at 72ppi. I do use AP all of the time, but in this instance I get superior quality images using PS Save for Web, so I do not need a third party program which I assume Lanczos is. I just wanted to know why I cannot get the same quality web images in AP as I get in PS - see attached compare images.
  13. I have a 417+504pix file called 'image-link image 300ppi.afphoto' (see Screen Shot 1) which is my master image maker with multiple layers. This is approx 6 times ratio of the final intended image size. I have tried doing the following to get a optimum quality image: Resize document .afphoto to 70x85pix (the size of the graphic on the intended website) at 72ppi and export. In 'Export' I have used the quality slider to get the file to about 28k and not changed the pixel field. - (see Screen Shot 2) Using 'Export' I have changed the pixel field to 70x85pix and left the Quality slider at max which leaves the file about 16k. - (see Screen Shot 3) All these attempts result in much poorer images than Photoshop 'Save for the Web' plus odd sizing when brought into my website program. I hope this clarifies my dilemma. Regards
  14. I have been using AP (plus AD and AP) for sometime now and overall I am very pleased. However, the lack of 'Save for the Web' facility (available on Adobe Photoshop) is still causing some issues for me. Trying to save the best image at the right size with an acceptable resolution with rollover image links still eludes me. I have used the Export window 'Quality' slider and tried the Export Persona, but I get irregular bizarre sizing when saving images from the same multi layer AP file. Am I doing something wrong? I have had to go back to Adobe PS to overcome this anomaly.
  15. As Adobe's pricing policy made me abandon their suite that I have worked with for 30 years, I really wanted to use the 'final' program in Affinity's stable. I am a very satisfied user of Affinity Photo and Designer and have recently bought Publisher. However, I thought I would have to continue to use InDesign for updating older files, this looks like a viable option for some files until Publisher imports InDesign files proper.
  16. Seneca, are you saying if I go back into an existing InDesign indd file and re-save as a idml file the content would be identical to the indd file. If so, I assume the idml file opened in Affinity Publisher would be more or less editable, just like the Adobe Illustrator vector files I have opened in Affinity Designer.
  17. Can this be true, we will not be able to import InDesign INDD files into the new Affinity Publisher. I currently use Affinity Photo and Designer succesfully and was looking forward to ditching greedy Adobe after 25 years of using their creative suite products. I have so many InDesign files that have to be serviced that this will block my my transfer from Adobe to Affinity, such a shame that Affinity is going to fall at the last fence.
  18. It was on the Apple palette, but I use the Pantone CMYK coated to build the document and generally use the and Pantone CMYK and Solid palette to design and artwork my stuff. These palettes have the Add Registration greyed out, but I used 'Colours' palette and was able to add the Registration Colour. Thanks
  19. I am having difficulty making a Registration Colour in Affinity Designer from the above instruction, I click on on my Swatches palette and this is what I see - attached image.
  20. David, I have been using Photoshop since 1990 and welcome Affinity Photo and will be letting Adobe Creative Suite go in favour of the Affinity programs when I update to OS Mohave. However, AP is not yet PS in some areas, not being able to key in metadata and 'Save for Web devices' shortcut being but two. The later is very useful when you are building an image heavy website where the images are constantly being changed and updated. I can do it manually in AP but it takes a lot more time, despite using Macros.
  21. The video tutorials were interesting and worth looking at, but I was hoping for a 'one stop' solution like 'Save for Web devices' in PS. Maybe in the future AP will provide an equivilent.
  22. Is there feature for saving images for the web like Photoshop 'Save for Web devices' in Affinity Photo.
