Canva is a subscription model, as Serif inform us themselves. So much for the 'No Subscriptions' tagline. We'll be 'allowed' to keep our current version, then from the next 0.1 revision we'll be offered a discount.

The writing is on the wall. Serif have sold out.

A few days ago I bought V2 universal and now I wish I didn't. If you will get subscription I think your software will die. It is okay to pay for a new major Version. But if you force to pay with a subscription, you will loose your fans and customers.

I must say this was a shock but not a good one - Canva also bought SMARTMOCKUPS.COM which was amazing and now they are shutting it down - I do hope this is not the case with Affinity.
Canva have the cash and resources and do make the final decision which is a shame. All this companies say at the beginning no no we will be independent but in reality that will not be the case.

Yeah, I’ve not a good feeling about it.

That reads to me as, from v3 it’ll be different.

I really really hope we don’t get any Canva crap to deal with and subscription stays away. I’m not that loyal.

We’ve all been around the block and saw what happened to PaintShopPro when Corel acquired it (and how it turned into a bloated horrible mess). I feel sad that the Affinity apps will head in the same direction. Really is a sad day.

Oh well. It was fun whilst it lasted. As soon as you become a £100 a year subscription service (which you will), I'll just go back to Adobe.

I love you guys, and I have a big load of respect about you, being a big evangelist of Affinity, but I'm not having a good felling on this. Canva is not what I could name a "professional software" partner. They want to be Adobe, not an adobe alternative.
The first insinuation of subscription model will break any trust on Affinity, and for the love of the goddess, I hope Affinity apps don't become a dumpster of stupid and crappy AI and cheap design tools that Canva really is.
I've read the FAQs you published… they don't give me enough reassessment that nothing is gonna change. Your company and your project is not yours anymore.
    I wish to be wrong.

The only question is whether Affinity will offer a subscription in the future? I have bought a lot of brushes for your software. Especially on the Ipad, I am not willing to pay any subscription fees. I have purchased your software twice (v1. & v2). You say there are no plans for subscriptions at this time. But just wait until the Canva bosses change their minds, because greed is a virus in upper management. RIP, Adobe Alternative.

Well holy sh#t, I was about to post the old "what chu talkin bout Willis" line, but thought I'd do a quick Google first, and wow 😲

This is HUGE news, and I'm a little miffed we didn't hear it first from the company we have supported and trusted for many years. I personally hate what Canva has done to the design industry, however I can only assume they have the $$ and resources to actually give Adobe a run for their money, on top of that we may finally get image tracing!! Speaking of money, we should prepare for the inevitable subscription-based model, and / or price increase to return the unconfirmed billion-dollar acquisition to investors pockets.

Overall, I'm quite torn about this news, yet not surprised.

    The honeymoon is over.

This is a bug when switching the line style from one to another doesn't then allow you to alter the pressure curve.  I've given the report a nudge and left a link back to this thread so we can update when its resolved.
As stated in the Help file: 'Properties—Click to edit the brush used as your Texture Line Style via a Brush dialog.'
So making a change via the options shown when using Properties will change to a texture line style.
    It's a bug.

I most certainly do not know why it would be useful for the Node tool, since the normal triangular pointer already affords precise positioning of the pointer at its tip.
For brushes it makes sense, otherwise it does not, at least to me.

    1. I spent an Hour going through Settings and Shortcuts, thinking I had hit something, but couldn't find anything.
    2. I didn't know what it was called - so clearly my search brought no joy.
    3. I did search Affinity Designer why did my Node Tool turn into a plus sign. I watched 10 videos - not one mentioned capslocks.

Timespider got a reaction from Kal in Shapes - Equilateral Triangle
Lately I've needed to create/insert/make Equilateral Triangles.
You would think you could go to the triangle shape & presto make an Equilateral Triangle.
But no you have to go to a different shape maker than triangle to make a triangle like Alfred has said Here .

You can't even create one and save it as a preset as Dan_C has said Here - Why?
Dan says because you already have the shape so can't generate a new preset, but I don't have an Equilateral Triangle and why can't I make 2 of them anyway? The right angle two tringles in there already are the same triangle in reverse. So they really are two of the same shape.
Why do I have to go to a different shape maker than the shape it is, to make a shape that should already exist?
Come on Affinity fix the "Create Preset" or add the Equilateral Triangle as a default shape - Please.

Blame my unaccurate "decimal places for unit types settings here for the 0.x degree shifts" as the whole was for demonstration purposes just via mouse hand drawn & placed.
Then file in a feature request for additions of that under the forums Feedback & Suggestions category. Maybe they will add an exact equilateral triangle one then predefined in/for future versions.

    Thanks for your post @Timespider!
I believe the Triangle Tool is currently working as expected, and is correctly described in the Help file, as @Aammppaa covers above:
The default preset, with the Top Point set at 50%, will create an Isosceles Triangle.
The preset manager for any Quick Shape object is designed to save custom shape values the user has set - as the Triangle Tool only supports the 'Top Point' as a customisable value, this is the only property that will be retained with your saved preset.
This is why you are unable to create an Equilateral Triangle preset, as the Top Point will remain at 50% and this has already been added as a default preset.
I'll move this thread to the Feedback section of the forums for our team to see and consider your suggestions for the Triangle Tool itself - but at this time I'd recommend using the Polygon tool for Equilateral Triangles, as required:
    2024-01-11 12-53-57.mp4
I hope this clears things up

I often use the polygon tool set to 3 edges. As long you are keeping the bounding box at 1:1 aspect ratio it will provide the wanted triangle.

@Timespider, I saw that in your first post and true, it is the Polygon tool and not the Triangle tool yet it gets the job done.

Perhaps I am missing something obvious... but the triangle shape only has one parametric control (Top Point), which defines where the top point sits as a percentage of the width of the triangle. The preset in question has this set to 50%, the middle, which is where it would need to be for an equilateral triangle, BUT...
I can drag out a triangle of any height and click the preset. It will center the Top Point, but it is certainly not equilateral!
If I drag and hold Shift to constrain height = width, again this is not equilateral. Indeed the height should be: width × sin(60)
So, I agree with @Timespider... the triangle tool can not easily create equilateral triangles, and the first preset draws isosceles triangles, not equilateral. Plus there is no way to force the triangle tool to draw only equilateral triangles, nor to save a preset that only creates equilateral triangles.
    And the help agrees too...
Though to be fair the icon does show an isosceles triangle!

I'm curious why these new functions were added to Alignment rather than being added to Transform, though. They feel more like object transformation actions than object alignment actions. Am I missing some aspect of how this works?

I know you can save stroke profiles during the period the document is open.
But it would be better (for me) to have a permanent save so they are available always.
