Well done Serif! Having used Adobe CS - CS4 and CorelDraw 7 - X8 with PageMaker in between, very happy to be firmly in the Affinity camp.

Do I understand correct: You want to buy a really powerful application for a more than ridiculous price and never pay any more for it in future? Dream on!
I, for my part, want paid updates, to assure that the development of this software doesn‘t come to a standstill. To rely on addons is risky, because they (or an appropriate interface) don‘t actually exist and because other scrooges certainly will insist on getting these addons for free too.
So, simply be aware, that you purchase a piece of software for the same price, which you have to pay for a monthly Adobe subscription fee. What else do you want?
By the way: There are many apps in Apple‘s AppStore, which are periodically replaced to „force“ customers to buy a new version. The most popular example in our context is QuarkXpress. This isn‘t reprehensible at all, but simply necessary to maintain future software development.

iMatt reacted to MikeW in Affinity Publisher is not a copy of InDesign - no massive fail!
No, InDesign was a completely new codebase. ID & PM shared zero code. Adobe bought Aldus explicitly for the application code which became ID. Aldus gave up trying to update PM as its code was obsolete and becoming unmanageable and began an entirely new application intended to replace PM completely. There was no issue as regards "copyright" as all intellectual property from Aldus was purchased by Adobe.
Adobe kept patching PM (and selling licenses) once the sale went through in 1994 as well as working on what would become InDesign, which was released in 1999 (29 years ago last Friday). Adobe effectively killed PM once ID 2 was released (they stopped patching it at that time). It wasn't until version 2 that anyone I knew even bothered to think about replacing QXP.

I would continue using PP for all the projects started with PP, if I were you.
I would employ Publisher for all new jobs, though.
This is how I would go about it.

Well done! I have gone from Aldus to Corel to Adobe, back to Corel and now Affinity. No regrets whatsoever.

Whoopee! I've finally finished with Photoshop et al. My annual subscription ended this month & I'm more than happy to place all my photographic eggs in the Affinity basket.
Thanks folks for a great product, it fulfills all my editing needs & I won't be looking back.

It is interesting to note here that someone posted about Publisher's release on the Adobe forums yesterday, and it was promptly removed by the moderators. Posts mentioning Affinity weren't removed up until the past six months, or so.
It is quite telling: Adobe is certainly not liking the new competition, even if Publisher still has some way to go before it will catch up in certain respects.
Anyway, I purchased Publisher this morning, and the Photo link is kinda genius. :-) It's come a long way since the first betas that I tested.

Yes, even if you dont do print layouts, its worth having Publisher for the way it has all the Personas within the same app. That alone kind of revolutionizes the way we all go about designing anything.
And the fact that you can open a Publisher document straight into Designer or Photo (On your iPad if you want) and then back into Publisher after that, is so damn cool, I cant stand it!
    Wow! Game-changing!

    Kudos to the team!
While DTP is fairly tangential to my work, I simply had to purchase Publisher, and with the very pleasant surprise of Studiolink, I'm very happy that I did. And I have a lecture that I'm giving soon and so Publisher should prove very useful in putting together class material.
    Studiolink is a revelation!
I'm impressed with the direction that Serif is taking and the recent updates. The packages have progressed in leaps and bounds with the recent updates and I've now almost completely transitioned to AP for my illustration/concept work. It' adjusting to the workflow but the Brush tool with the Sub brushes is where for the improvements have been most meaningful.
I'm glad that you're persisting with the perpetual licensing arrangement. It's a huge factor for why I was seeking out an alternative to Adobe in the first place. To this end, I'd be happy to pay say, 50 percent of the purchase price for major updates (say from 2 to 3 when that comes about).
Congratulations guys! You deserve the success for your considerable efforts. I'm spreading the work where I can.

Hey Serif, what are you doing??
I'm a ambitious and passionated photographer, switched to Serif because of Affinity Photo. I'm not a graphic designer or DTP artist, but purchased in the beginning just out of curiosity Designer and now Publisher, and what shall I say? It's really fantastic, easy to use, a joy to work with these apps and expand my creativity around photography!
Really, really well done of all of you and thank you very much for that!!

It's actually nice to see the comparisson. Where Serif today put the whole keynote in only one hour, where they show a lot of nice realtime great value new features quickly after each other because there are so many. While last times in the Adobe 'keynotes' on Photoshop or Illustrator there was not much to show and it was more like talking a loooooong time about some new keystroke that people asked for a thousand years and being able to do switch blendmode-previews at realtime, which Affinity had from day one. They have nothing fancy and talk a lot instead, while this keynote was really contentful and had a lot to offer for even only one product alone basically.

I believe Adobe will be shocked too if they see this. Just think about it, they need to fully redesign and -develop their apps from the ground up to accomplish this.
It's actually unbelievable no other (graphics)software company thought of doing this before. They either chose to put everything in one package (which most of the time feels bloated and too big or just not right for the job) or keep everything seperated. This is really best of both worlds.

If upgrading doesn't work: Try opening and closing Designer and Photo and than restart Publisher. It seems like that's nececary for Publisher to know they are there. I just had to open and close Photo because I had the same.

Downloaded! The personas are spookily good. Will take a bit of getting used to this new mindset. I often pondered whether it was ever possible for one related program to be able to share functionality with another by importing icons or simply ''tearing'' them from one prog to another. Affinity makes this pretty much a reality. Good work lads and lasses!

It depends on the level of the user, a graphic designer who studies design and produces work in exchange for money will appreciate the software, and we all know how much of a bargain to have affinity software for $50 and even down to $35 and $40 discounts. Other users might see them just as a nice game to produce cool images or make a document here and there won't value them as much as we do.
While open source software fail to provide professional quality features (having used Inkscape/Gimp and tried Scribus), they still have a value of providing accessible source code for programmers to learn how such software is made and how it works, providing free easy install alternatives, and many libraries/utilities can be even used by commercial software, even Affinity software incorporate a lot of them. Just check 3rd party licenses under Help/About...

Indeed. It's in fact a bargain, even if you're poor. Some people seem to have forgotten the real price of software and just don't understand the crazy amount of time, effort and passion developers, ui-designers, testers, consultants and what not put on software to create it so you can work faster and make more money with these tools.
Great professional software could easily cost hundreds to thousands of euros in a shop. And it used to be like that too for a long time. It has years of experience put inside it making you work so much faster you earn the money back in no time on the job. But some people in the age of 'open source', free apps (actually making money by using or selling your data) and dollar-apps for your iPhone or Android device, seem to have forgotten the real cost and value production software and compare real value software with buggy, but free, open source tools.
I think it's amazing Affinity makes this stable, performant and highly productive and professional software for only 50 euros and I'm very surprised if people are really this picky about this price to be honoust. To me that's a lack of understanding what it takes to create it and what makes it stand out above the 'just not right'-software out there.

Are you seriously thinking about spending or not spending $40 for a pro level dtp software because you THINk there MIGHT be a paid update next year or not?
Either you like Publisher and want to spend the money, or you want to wait until it has a specific feature that you are currently missing and wait until then.
Don't overthink what could be and that you could be disappointed about something that might or might not happen next year and could or not could cost you 40 bucks that you don't need to spend if you don't need or want the new features or not that might or might not get programmed ... this kind of doubt and overthinking just makes you unhappy.

I am sure most would rather Affinity spend their valuable time fixing code and adding new features than trying to appease everyone on the aesthetics of a single splash page.
