kufloyd got a reaction from deniel in Export to EPS10 for stock vector sites
Hi,
I'm looking into submitting vectors to stock sites like shutterstock. One of their requirements is that the file is saved as AI8 or EPS10: (tip #1 here: https://www.shutterstock.com/blog/6-tips-to-follow-when-submitting-vectors-for-the-first-time)
My question is - what EPS version does AD export? I'm asking because apparently, using things like transparencies, gradients etc results in bitmapping with AI8, based on what's mentioned here:
https://www.shutterstock.com/blog/bitmapping-101-troubleshooting-eps-files-in-illustrator:
"When exporting to EPS-8, you will most certainly get bitmapping if you use these effects and techniques:
1. Transparency 2. Opacity Masks 3. Radial Gradient 4. Linear Gradient, sometimes, not always, depends on opacity masks used, or if output Transparency setting is not 100% Vectors on the Raster/Vector Balance (in the EPS Options window, see below) 5. Drop Shadow 6. Gaussian or Radial Blur
When exporting to EPS-10, most of the problems encountered in outputting to EPS-8 are eliminated, except bitmapping will still occur with Drop Shadow and Gaussian or Radial Blur."
thanks.

kufloyd reacted to GarryP in Question about layering on top
You're welcome.
It's worth saying that the quick fix I gave was only applicable because the flower was on a white background.
In most cases which concern a flower you would need to have some kind of background to the petals - as petals are not transparent - but the colour would need to be applicable to the subject. I.e. The background colour would need to be one of the colours on the petal.
You would probably be best to do all of the painting on the pixel layer - as you have - to achieve a more realistic look as colouring the background layer might result in something that looks less natural (it creates a definite "harsh" edge to the petal which might not look right).

My first shared work with AD! I'm starting a new series with salmon and cherry blossoms as the theme. This one's titled "Wish upon a shooting star: a salmon's dream of cherry blossoms comes true".
thanks to the forum here for patiently answering my questions!

Hi kufloyd,
Thanks for sharing. I agree with @jer - great work on colours and texture. I also like how you have worked the blossoms. I remember seeing another post in other section where you were working with transparency/texture while doing them. The result looks quite delicate, very nice. Glad to know you are enjoying learning the software and mostly, having fun while doing so. That's make things much more easier!
Looking forward for more...

Thanks for the feedback, jer! Appreciate your taking the time to check it out.
I'm having fun with AD. This was my first foray into using pixel persona and am still learning about brushes, but making this piece was both fun and a great learning experience.

kufloyd reacted to J. Ones Designs in My first attempt at designer
I used to use photoshop for everything because I felt like illustrator was too complicated for me to learn but I took on to AD like a fish in water. I watched a few tutorials and have never looked back and have decided to learn something new everyday. I haven't ordered the workbook yet but that'll be up next for me.

Great work, noor! I especially like the cherry blossoms.
For sales: have you considered FAA? It's a print-on-demand website: you upload your work (can be photos, paintings or illustrations), set your prices and they take care of printing, shipping etc. I use it for photography but am considering using it for designs/illustrations also, as I continue to learn how to use AD. You have to do all your marketing but at-least you don't have to worry about the logistics of printing etc.

Yes, they do work (are editable). EPS files generated by Illustrator have an AI file embedded as a comment that lets it load all the data from it as editable objects and discard the rest of EPS data. Since third-party apps cannot read/save this embedded AI file comment (because it's a proprietary/closed format) we have to rely on the official EPS specs to output the file which Illustrator ignores/rasterises when there's no embedded AI file.

kufloyd reacted to CreationsOfKoon in AD T-Shirt design
Hello everyone!
First post in the forums, so here's a little introduction/explanation first: I've been looking for a good alternative to Illustrator (which I use in my daily job) for my freelance work and came across Affinity Designer. I lurked through the forums a bit, saw the introductory video about a hundred times and eventually when Illustrator abolished my last nerve and obliterated any pieces of patience I had left, I knew - Affinity Designer will be the software I use! I thought it would be a cool idea to try and record my first project with the program and share it with the community. It's nothing special, mostly shapes and gradients, but I had to start somewhere, so here goes:
A video of the process: https://youtu.be/QlpYsvdkpEY

Thanks for having a look!
