  1. I'm trying to draw the legs in this illustration: http://tinybuddha.com/blog/7-ways-decluttered-life-can-result-decluttered-mind/ but am having a hard time getting them to be the right shape. I used the pen tool in pen mode but the shapes just look really odd. I can't figure out how to get it to be smoother. Any ideas? thanks!
  2. thanks to both of you. I tried both the approaches and they work equally great!
  3. Hi, I'm trying to create a guy wearing shorts and am making my way up from his feet :) I have a question about his shorts: I made a rectangle for the shorts and then placed a triangle at the bottom center (to indicate a small break). What I'd like to do is to have the part where the base of the triangle sits on the rectangle not have any border, so it looks like it's the same color as the background. I can't seem to figure out a way to have the triangle with 2 of its sides be yellow and the third side not have a border...any idea how to do this? thanks.
  4. I'm trying to draw feet. I did this by using the Pen tool in Pen mode. I traced it from the top right point all the way down and up to the top left point. My question is: if I want to change the dimensions - such as bring the top of the foot further up - what's the best way to do that? Should I be using the node tool to bring each of the nodes up individually or is there a better way? I find that if I try to bring each node up individually, it doesn't retain the original angles and it's hard to keep the contours the same as before. Also - is using the Pen tool in pen mode the best way to draw this in the first place? thanks!
  5. I'm new to AD and am trying to learn by making objects. One object I'd like to learn how to make is an umbrella like this one: https://www.google.com/search?q=umbrella&safe=off&espv=2&biw=1528&bih=734&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj7s_Ww2LPRAhUN5GMKHfK6ARwQ_AUIBygC#imgrc=waZ0ZALiz2l5SM%3A How do you go about making those 5 semi-circles at the bottom? I started with a segment shape for the top part but not sure how to tie in the bottom 5 semi-circles. thanks.
  6. I guess I could change the rotation of the line to be at 0 degrees..any other ways to do it are also appreciated :)
  7. Hi, I have a basic question: if I'm drawing a line with the pen tool, how do I ensure it's at 90 degrees with regards to the base of the document? Or, in the case of the attached design, how do I ensure that the purple line in the box (towards the left) is at 90 degrees to the base of the box? Thanks.
  8. just came across this topic that answered my question: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/33133-making-image-larger/
  9. I've been exploring AD for a few hours now and have yet another basic question: while exporting, how do you scale up a design's size? the design I'm exporting looks really small (see attached for example). How do I make objects look bigger? Should I have made them bigger while designing them? thanks.
  10. Hi, I just bought a copy of AD yesterday and am playing around with it and have a basic question: I created one shape using the pen tool and did a color fill in that shape. I created a 2nd shape and would like its fill to be the same color as that of the first shape. Besides looking up the color number (H,S,L) for the first shape and matching it to the 2nd one's color, is there a way to 'paste' the color from the 1st to the 2nd shape? Thanks.
  11. also another question: any reason to prefer Mac over Windows as far as AD goes? Is AD version for one OS more stable than the other?
  12. thanks for the quick replies. Question about processor cores: the laptop I'm considering has 2 cores, 4 threads. Is that too slow or is there a significant advantage to having 4 cores? Also, regarding RAM: is 16GB low?
  13. Hi there, I'm starting new in the field of graphic design and am in process of selecting a computer and would like some feedback - what would you recommend in terms of a newbie setup? Would a desktop be better than a laptop? I prefer a laptop due to portability but understand that I pay more for similar performance. I'm considering something like this (link removed by moderator) Any input is appreciated! Thanks.
