I agree completely. The eye strain is particularly a problem on my 27", wide gamut, optimized for photo editing monitor. Not really a problem on a 13" retina display, but a serious photography tool needs to work well with other serious photography tools.

Thanks, this helps me a lot. I prefer the greyscale representation to a red overlay. You can also right click on a mask icon and choose edit adjustment to get a grayscale representation, but it doesn't work for adjustment and filter layers, only masks. I'm a little surprised that there's no toggle available--apparently you have to click on another layer and then the layer you're working on to get back to the image.

OS X seems to store them in Library->ColorSync->Profiles and some programs look there automatically, eg. Preview. To tell Affinity where to look, go to File->Import ICC Profile... and navigate to wherever you decide to store profiles.

I'm don't have much to offer about screen image quality of jpgs as I've only used AP to make prints. I've found the results entirely acceptable, and expect even better once I learn it well enough. You can assign profiles while using the develop persona under the basic tab: view-->studio-->basic. Tic the bottom checkbox and it gives you the choice of any profile installed on your computer.

Thanks for the prompt reply MEB. Unfortunately it mostly reminded me how unimpressed I was when I made that switch. Part of it is inherent with light on dark text--I have similar issues with Capture One. But it is also font size. A large monitor wants an increased viewing distance. Online, I've set my browser at 150% text size, up from 120%. Similar flexibility seems reasonable in a photo editor that I will use for many more hours at a time.
