BrokenT reacted to firstdefence in Fx Layer effects - outline - inner glow
Why not make two rectangles with strokes set to inside and just have one set at say 10 units in White and the other above it set to 5 units in black, you can make a macro to automate this.

BrokenT reacted to DocCoding in Gradient Pack - uiGradient.com
As a web designer, I find websites like uiGradients.com a quite useful resource, with a massive selection of ready-made gradients (and css code for those).
This palette is a complete (01.09.2018) pack of all gradients alongside their names, hand-imported over the course of an afternoon and a few podcasts.
I don't think you can copyright colors/gradients, but the GitHub repository of the uiGradients.com website is licensed under MIT. I'll try to keep the file up to date with the website, but if there's a missing gradient or a error, please tell me about it.
Enjoy: uiGradients.com.zip
(A preview will follow soon)

BrokenT reacted to Tsetsoh in Free CG Textures
http://www.cgtextures.com/
I have used this resource for years. They have a large, easily searchable catalog. I have never failed to find something I can use for a background, overlay, texture etc.
With a free membership you get a much larger download limit. I find that I have never bumped my limit. Of course, with paid membership one gets an amazing download limit.

BrokenT reacted to Mithferion in Public Domain Pictures
Hi there!
I just wanted to share a list of sites that offer Public Domain Pictures in good quality. Some of them are listed in this thread, but I wanted to add more and publish a list of this kind of content (CC0 License, and also a High Permissive Licenses sites). Also, consider that there may be additional restrictions implied on these pictures, like brandings, buildings, people, etc.
Also, please read each site's Licensing in order to ensure what can and can't be done.
Edit: Since I crated this Topic, some things have changed, so: I removed non-working links and added a few more:

BrokenT reacted to Peregrin in Tutorial: How to Create a Fantasy Map in Affinity Designer
Link to Tutorial:
http://hmturnbull.com/writing/fantasy/map-making/introduction/
Description:
On my website I'm writing a series of tutorials on how to create a fantasy map using Affinity Designer. I've seen a lot of tutorials for fantasy cartography, but they all seem to focus on either hand-drawn maps or maps made in raster software. Using my method, one can create a fantasy map that will scale infinitely and is easier to edit throughout the process.
In this tutorial, I will teach you how to make a versatile map that you can use for stories or role-playing games.

BrokenT reacted to Jangbu in Osprey in B&W
I seldom use B&W for nature photos, but, in this case, like the result. After receiving a tip that a pair of nesting ospreys had taken up residence atop a telephone pole beside a busy local highway, I managed to capture a few images. After conversion to B&W, I adjusted the individual tone curves to blacken the blue sky and produce a range of grey tones. Applied a bit of contrast and sharpening for the final result.

BrokenT reacted to dmstraker in Simple cartoon effect
Here's a quick and simple way I used to create a cartoon efffect.
Duplicate background layer. High-pass adjustment layer (as child of duplicate), radius about 10 (don't use any blend mode). Threshold layer (as child of duplicate), adjust to see outlines (up to 49%). Blend mode of duplicate: Overlay. Fiddle with adjustments to your heart's content. Ole.
Sample below and .afphoto attached.

BrokenT reacted to budaloco in Affinity designer -> After effects vectors
The people of School of motion are a big fan of affinity and today they posted this very detailed and wonderful tutorial on how to export from Affinity Designer® to Adobe® After Effects@.
It may seem a little bit cumbersome, but I think it's worth it...specially if you try to avoid illustrator. The link: https://www.schoolofmotion.com/blog/save-affinity-designer-vector-files-after-effects
Have a nice one!

Just some quick attempt at sky replacement and color grading. Also, a simple idea for a poster using watercolor brushes.

Now that you've mentioned it - that would be a great idea.
Thanks for kind words.
edit: I've seen some Nike/Adidas poster tutorials lately and decided to give it a try with my own, simple concept.

BrokenT reacted to MEB in Auto Trace for Affinity Designer
Hi BrightBold,
Welcome to Affinity Forums
Thank you for your feedback. The Affinity line is being written from scratch to be cross platform and take advantage of the new API's/resources of modern systems/OS's. It's not a replacement or expanded version of the old plus line/code. We hope to offer better/improved features over the old line as time permits. Hopefully we will have an improved auto trace feature later. Bear with us while we improve/grow the apps.

BrokenT reacted to peter in Who do you think you are? My family tree history.
This Easter I took advantage of free weekend access to Ancestry's website. After a lot of digging and cross referencing I finally found the evidence that Dad's mum's uncle was a Labour MP called Davie Logan, 1871-1964. I was told this about 10 years ago by her sister, but it was her son, my dad's cousin who posted this fact on a forum.
It turns out that he was the leader Liverpool Labour Party and had a tower block named after him in his local area (Vauxhall Liverpool 5, otherwise known as Scotland/Scottie rd). This tower block has since been demolished. Housing in this part of the world, seems to either be a 100 years old or demolished after 30 years. I was born in 1970, so I never got to see either so I did some sleuthing and put the photos together, this way you can see how things have changed over the years.
Just wondering, is there a better way of doing this in AD, as I haven't got APh?
