Thanks for all the options everyone. I still feel like cropping is more difficult than it should be. I will however buy a copy of Affinity photo as soon as business picks up. Currently in a slump with no disposable cash.

I see... I'm more familiar with photoshop but do need the vector editing fro what I'm doing now. Guess I need both programs and to learn the differences.

That works but is a major PITA and completely unintuitive. In this case Photoshop wins for being simple and intuitive.

So I'm trying to crop a photo using Affinity designer and it's pretty much impossible to figure out. In Photoshop I grab the crop tool and crop so simple. With affinity I can't figure it out at all. I tried this tutorial but it's not working and is overly complicated for something that should be a simple task. How can I easily crop a photo with affinity designer?

I'd like to be able to set the ratio when drawing a rectangle so could be 4:3 or 16:9 or 16:3 or whatever. Is this possible? if so where do I find this option? Additionally I'd like to be able to create a fix sized shape. So when the shape tool is selected I could set the width/height and then just place the shape exactly with those dimensions. Again is this posisble? if so how do I do this?

I have a simple repeating pattern that is 100px square that I would like to use to fill a rectangle that is the full size of my project. However when I got to fill tool > bitmap and find the pattern. it fills the whole rectangle by scaling up the image rather than repeating it. Is there a way to do this?

Longterm lightroom user here. I've recently started using Adobe Designer for web design and happy with it. However with my hobby of photography I'm getting tired of the subscription model for Lightroom and with no news about lightroom 7 standalone I'm seriously considering purchasing Affinity Photo. Has anyone moved from Lightroom to Affinity Photo? thoughts, experiences, pros & cons? Any gotchas? Anything missing in Affinity Photo or conversely features in Affinity Photo that Lighroom doesn't have.

In photoshop when I had the move tool activated by default i had it set to select layer. In Affinity I cannot seem to find this setting. When clicking on a design it always selects the top level group, but I would much rather have it select the layer I've clicked. Is this possible?

Me too.. would love to have a simple tables.. I'm working on a web design where one sectoin will have a long table with several columns.

I'd like to be able to open the Guides manager and have the option to select from available guides and have them automatically added to the document or artboard. i.e. add guides and I can choose 960 grid 12 columns, 960 grid 16 columns or similar. Ideally being able to set column and gutter width would be great.
