Not necessarily. Their acquisition track record actually isn't terrible from what I can see. The only "bad" results are really Zeetings and Smartmockups, which were both integrated into Canva and closed independently within two years...HOWEVER these were both browser-based products like Canva itself, so that integration is not only easier but was likely planned from the start. On the flip side of the coin, their other acquisitions such as Kaleido AI, Floursih, Pexels, and Pixabay did receive Canva integrations, but still seem to also operate their individual products. In the case of Pexels and Pixabay (acquired in 2019), the integration was as simple as making their images available directly within Canva much like they are already in Affinity. Their respective websites and stock images remain free under CC0 5 years down the road. They did create a premium stock library that was integrated into Canva Pro, but that had no real effect on either of the acquired websites. Flourish and Kaleido AI are available in Canva directly, but also seem to operate independently with no real business model change.
With this in mind, Canva seems to mostly respect the boundaries of its children companies. In the case of Serif/Affinity, I now believe we'll see some level of integration but nothing to the point of Serif's closure and complete integration into Canva--the claims about providing Affinity separately do have backing in Canva's acquisition history. I also feel a bit more optimistic about them keeping to the promise of retaining perpetual licenses...after all, it will be hard to "maximize profits" if you take away the product's largest selling point.

maybe not revoke in legal terms but basically make it EOL shut down activation servers etc is practically as close to a revocation as it goes, also I need to read affinity's EULA again but many of these EULAs in general kinda allow the company to revoke "for any or no reason", so not sure if affinity has that inside

sure they know what they buy, similarly to many other companies, but the problem is not what they buy but what they do with what they buy.
They dont buy affinity to make it better they buy affinity to make money, that can include putting affinity features into canva and letting affinity die, monetizing affinity to hell and back or a mixture of both. or but I cant judge that if they compete in any way it's a neat way to get rid of competition, as has been done often enough.
    literally this.
While I havent been in the business at all really, I'd say this is the case across businesses, when companies acquire each other it generally ends up badly.

    Hi @Jason Gibbins,
    try this:
Group the circle with itself (= hit CTRL+g) Add the outer glow to the group. Make sure that only the group is selected not the circle within. Assign the circle a 100% black fill and set it's fill mode to subtract (in the layers panel). This should do the trick.

everyone is looking at each other and taking what they think is nice. And I would highly doubt that MS and mac decided to make things like virtual desktop or clipboard history or whatever part of their OSes just because something like XEROX or whataver it was called had it 30+ years ago.
they are likely looking at currently available systems and what features users like there.

It has certainly been mainstream enough to not die.all of the other systems died and I doubt windows or mac would now look at extinct OSes to copy from rather than a system that sure is in the minority but well and alive

wait a sec I smell something weird. in the worst case you may get yourselves sued for false advertising because:

    https://affinity.serif.com/de/ui-design-software/
at point 15 it says and I quote:

that quote by Callum doesnt sound like "all future updates completely free".

the english version sounds a little bit less boasting about the updates, but still says that updates are included, with no stars or footnotes or anything

On Mac the shortcut is Control + W, the item is in the View menu. View > Preview Mode.
Or you can turn off Show Bleed in the same menu, View > Show Bleed AND enable View > View Mode > Clip to Canvas.

both sides basically give a big middle finger.
Apple doesnt want alternative boot options apparently and Windows Licenses ARM only to OEMs.

not a very good Idea. The point of affinity designer is the vector environment meaning you can scale this thing without problems up to infinity if you like, and since good .ico files usually have multiple sizes, using a raster image isnt well, the best Idea.

if you can just let the export persona deal with the scaling for the ico files, that would be long story short, awesome.

I have this sometimes too especially if the network share loses connectivity for a bit. (but it was designer on Windows)

I can see why an error message is needed if it cant save, but SERIOUSLY, forcibly closing the document is NOT the right way to go about it, rather spawn a save as dialog.

My1 got a reaction from rubs in (meta) beta and stable using the same icon?
hello, just wanted to note something less about the program but rather about the beta test itself apparently with the re-branding of 1.7 there are no beta specific icons anymore and even the title you can see in the taskbar just says "Affinity Designer" which makes it really ugly since there is only one true place where you can see that you are in the beta and that is the splashscreen which is also used in the about panel.

I think this can easily lead to confusion for people who use both on the same machine and should be fixed sooner or later.

nice to know as I would also totally dig it, I switched my Laptpo to Linux (Kubuntu) last august and it works pretty decently (win10 is ugly and the driver situation of 8.1 which I use as main on my other machines is, well, not pretty), and there are many things which work so much better after some setup which dont work as nice or not at all in windows (like for example having a german layout without the "dead" keys, or NOT forcing a US-Keyboard onto me while writing japanese or the pretty neat circular scrolling feature which doesnt work on all touchpads in windows etc etc)
honestly Linux in my opinion has only 2 things that are actually hard:
    1) the setup (drivers and stuff)
    2) programs (obvious)
and yeah I would totally dig affinity on Linux one way or another.

also I think the idea to have your purchase count as Linux instead of win/mac outlined in that one post pretty awesome:

    Hi,
Affinity Designer displays transparent background as a checkerboard pattern using white/light grey color. When I work with white objects on top of it, they are very difficult to see.
Is there a way to change the color of the checkerboard pattern?
    Thanks,
