  1. Seemingly the Euro prices got a hike as well...

did apple also change our prices scale? that's annying, it's 5€ more expensive

They could, but that would mean taking on all the costs of international sales & distribution, including complying with all the legal requirements & liabilities various countries impose on such things that Apple handles now as the legal seller of record. They also would have to provide an alternative to the worldwide software hosting services Apple provides, build whatever license-compliance/anti-piracy protections they think is necessary into the Mac versions currently provided by Apple for all apps purchased through MAS, & do the same for providing software updates.

Assuming they sold both through MAS & directly, that would mean three versions of every app to maintain (MAS, Mac-direct, & Windows). If they sold Mac versions only directly, they would forego the promotional value of selling through the MAS app (which do not forget is built into every Mac that can run Affinity).

well regarding the hosting and legal things about selling I dont see the problem. it's not much different than selling the windows software, which also happens directly, the only real problem would be DRM.

also if they just ax the apple store completely this means they neither have to pay a yearly fee, not the 30% from every puchase, meaning they either can get more money or make the price lower, and the best, the windows users dont have to essentially pay more just because affinity uses the Mac Store.

  2. To be honest, the difference between the Apple App Store and the Windows Store aren't that big. That jail actually has quite some nifty features and advantages for end users. But indeed, there might be some limitations to 3rd party support and I was hoping someone could elaborate on the 'problems' as mentioned by R C-R. That's all :)

well one problem to start is that a winstore version wont run on win7. also a UWP piece of software wont run on win8.1 either. axing any of those 2 is in my opinion not a good Idea because both are still in support and Windows 10 still is a piece of problematic software where drivers can fail and a lot of other funny stuff can happen with their system of 2 big updates per year.

and to top it off, you need an MS account for the Win Store which has its implications, especially if it still behaves like back when I tried the Win10 Store the first time, where it wanted to convert your whoole user account into a Windows account, in comparison Win8 let me the option of setting up the MS account only in the store which is way less problematic.

and at the very least I trust microsoft not a bit, especially with their recent path of win10s and even going as far to say it's the "soul" of win10, and having a full lockdown, honestly builds a scary image of the FUture of windows in my Mind at the very least.

  3. well even though the whole update vs upgrade is something people deeply involved with computers should know, the problem is that not everyone is that deeply involved in computers and then again on mac, which is a major platform on affinity, to be exact affinity started on mac (for whatever reason) and ever since 10.6 or whatever all updates/upgrades/whatever were completely free.

and even though version 2 will be a new version it will still be "affinity designer" or "affinity photo" so the phrase "all updates completely free" can be misunderstood.

I have nothing against the practice, it is very understandable and makes sense, you pay for a major version and get all minors included. but advertising language tends to be confusing, sometimes even intentional, although I think (and really hope) that this isnt the case here.

if it would have said something like all updates in version 1.x are free it wouldnt be confusing anymore (and with a link to the roadmap it would be even better since people get quickly to see what present and future features they are paying for without having to search)

  4. Hi Nixeldesign :)

You will get all updates for features currently on our RoadMap for free. Once the RoadMap is complete (most likely version 2.0) however you will have the option to purchase again for future updates or keep the version you have :)

    C

wait a sec I smell something weird. in the worst case you may get yourselves sued for false advertising because:

    https://affinity.serif.com/de/ui-design-software/

at point 15 it says and I quote:

If you buy Affinity Deigner (exactly - buy. Only pay once, no subscription fees!) you will naturally get all future Updates completely free.

that quote by Callum doesnt sound like "all future updates completely free".

the english version sounds a little bit less boasting about the updates, but still says that updates are included, with no stars or footnotes or anything

  5. well as the title already says, how about adding a few line breaks in here.

as you can see from the attachment, the filetype tooltip is wide enough to span one screen alone, but due to the positioning of the tooltip you are never actually able to see all the filetypes that affinity can open, but that would be helpful information imo. so it would be nice adding a few line breaks in here to make that easier.

    thanks.

  6. that's epic, nice to know.

btw is that custom pack also available for windows? might be helpful to mod it to fit the german kb layout.

I probably have to change a ton of keys because symbols like ] arent on the kb by themselves but are for example AltGr (or Strg+Alt) and 9 (and they dont trigger by that key combo)

also might be really helpful to have those in the faq.
