DanielMig reacted to Patrick Connor in Affinity Designer for Windows Update 1.5.1 Available
We are pleased to announce the first update for Affinity Designer for Windows (version 1.5.1).
The update is described here and can be downloaded from here. Once downloaded, close Affinity Designer and run (double click) the downloaded EXE to install it.
To install this version you will need to have the Affinity Designer for Windows already installed OR you will need to type in your email address and a valid Product key when prompted. When installing on top of an existing version you will not be prompted for the product key. If you need it you can find your product key (and a download button) in your Affinity store account, where you will also find the email address used to generate the key when you ordered the software.
If you have installed any previous beta version of Affinity Designer 1.5.0 or 1.5.1, it can be safely uninstalled before or after installing this release update, they are independent installs. The beta will stop working soon anyway.
Please report any problems you have installing or using this new version in the Windows forum here

DanielMig reacted to SrPx in Affinity Designer for Windows has launched!
The card definitely has its impact. But I have realized the way it is perceived depends on each individual, and also, in the planned usage for the tool.
Illustrator is really, really good. Expecting anything to beat Illustrator might be a stretch. If anything, I would say that Affinity Designer is quite more intuitive /easier to learn for new users (and quite a number of pros) than Illustrator, by far. And yeah, that can be indeed absolutely key. Affinity Designer is very good, and has an extremely good price/purchase option. (and even more considering the other options in the market...)
I would recommend installing a graphics card in your laptop, if that's possible. (one that is supported by it, of course). A powerful average but modern one would be desirable. I for one I can handle stuff with very low performance, as I kind of use many tricks. I have seen many artist colleagues doing this as well. But that path is not for everyone...
If you have a powerful PC or Mac with a normal graphic card in it, I'd recommend that for a better experience.
1.6 is going to be very good. I'd recommend to stay tuned, DEFINITELY. :)

DanielMig reacted to dawid.tuminski in Introduce Yourself
Hi all!
My name is Dawid and I am an Adobe Certfied Expert in Illustrator (should share it here ?;))
I've been using mainly Illustrator for several years now and I have also been creating online courses on that piece of software.
Recently I've decided to give the Designer a try and I am also planning to share what I've learnt on my Youtube channel.
Thanks for reading this!

DanielMig reacted to lfeuln in Google Nik Collection is now free for everyone.
Thanks R C-R! I'm sure the photo was never previously rotated in the Photos app, but it worked anyway. Maybe it's the orientation of the iPhone when I took the pic that caused it.

DanielMig reacted to Stephen Voisey in Affinity Designer 1.5 sneak peek: Constraints and Symbols
Thanks for creating a brilliant solution Serif and to continue to keep improving it. New features look great, and I noticed a little Star maker there also :)
Will being able to hold down space bar allow me to move around objects as I create them? Aka. Illustrator, Fireworks etc. Still miss this :) Either way, keep up the great work. Looking forward to Publisher also.

Currently Analog Efex Pro 2, Color Efex Pro 4, Silver Efex Pro 2 work with Affinity Photo. HDR Efex Pro 2 only works partially.

DanielMig reacted to Matej Junk in (1.5.1.54) Unable to rename a Pantone swatch via "Rename spot..." put as a global colour to my document palette
Hi,
Unable to rename a Pantone swatch via "Rename spot..." put as a global colour to my document palette. If this is intended behaviour, the "Rename spot..." should probably be greyed out when right clicking on the swatch.
Cheers,
Matej

DanielMig reacted to rubs in Too hard to scale wide, thin rectangles
A very common trick I use in UI projects is to use thin, wide rectangles as separator lines. Using straight curves (lines) is no good because they would be always out of focus when exporting. (No AD's fault, rasterization just works this way.) Placing lines at .5 px positions seems a good solution, but it's too easy to misplace these lines when Move by Whole Pixels is disabled (my preferred snap setting). Having lines and open curves with offset strokes would fix it nicely, but this is not planned AFAIK.
The problem occurs when I want to scale these rectangles (i.e. all the time). Below a certain width, AD gets rid of the center control handle (see image), and dragging the corner handles of course change the rectangle width, which is not what I want. What I do is to zoom in, scale, pan, zoom out... a painful process. This is one reason why other drawing apps locate the control handles outside the selection!
Any ideas?
Edit: of course this happens with any small object, or at low zoom settings. The Crop tool also suffers from the "disappearing handles" syndrome.

DanielMig reacted to nickdaum in Google Nik Collection is now free for everyone.
Hi MEB
OK, so it's useless as far as my needs are concerned. I'll continue using it as a stand-alone app and I'll be waiting for the future HDR tool promised for AP.

DanielMig reacted to TonyB in Affinity Designer for Windows has launched!
Affinity has now become officially cross-platform with the launch of Affinity Designer for Windows. It was our trail-blazing first app, and since being launched on Mac the response we have had to it has been unbelievable. It’s consistently been the top paid-for design app on Mac since launch, we’ve won a coveted Apple Design Award and there have been thousands of 5-star customer reviews on the Mac App Store.
For many designers, Affinity Designer has become their go-to app for everything from creating concept art, print projects, logos and icons to UI design, web graphics and mock-ups. And because Affinity Designer on Windows matches the Mac version feature-for-feature, PC users can now experience the same thrilling speed, incredible tools and supreme accuracy which has given Affinity Designer that formidable reputation.
For more information about the launch go here. Product information and how to buy click here.
Many thanks
Team Affinity.

Hi lesliedow,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
The Help file (menu Help ▸ Affinity Designer Help) covers extensively all the features of the program, with step by step instructions.
Additionally there's also video tutorials covering most of the features/tools/funcionality of Designer. You can find them here: In-house Affinity Designer Video Tutorials
For more learning resources check:
- Affinity Review our ezine, also includes some in-depth written and video tutorials covering specific subjects. The iBooks format includes video too (the PDF doesn't).
- and a few more third party learning resources here, including Books, Training Courses and written tutorials that may also help. -

DanielMig reacted to Dale in Affinity Photo is Apple's Best Mac App of 2015
As if we didn't have enough good stuff to tell you today with our amazing pair of app updates, we learned this afternoon that Affinity Photo is the Best Mac App of 2015!
We can't quite believe it, but it's true! That makes it best photo app too, but it’s also BEST ANY KIND OF MAC APP OF THE YEAR! Best App! :) Amazing, thank you Apple! This is what developers dream of!
There's not too much more to say except thank you, to Apple of course but also to everyone that has helped us shape the app into what it is. Pop over to our blog to read and see a little more.
Thank you, Dale.

DanielMig reacted to Andy Somerfield in Affinity TV - Beta Testers Required!
Hello!
We've got a new app coming out - for the latest generation Apple TV (Late 2015)!
It's a learning / teaching tool for users of Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer.
For now, it simply contains all our video tutorial content from the website / Vimeo. We'll of course be adding more focussed, appropriate content over time. We'll also be doing a better job of categorising the content and grouping it together.
If you have an Apple TV (Late 2015) and would like to beta test this new tool - please email tv@seriflabs.com and tell us your email address (the email must be associated with an active Apple ID) - we'll then add you to the TestFlight beta program and you should receive further installation instructions.
Thanks!
Andy.

DanielMig reacted to evtonic3 in HDR persona question
I love the new presets in HRD persona and I noticed that some presets have Tone Map MAIN (first top panel on right) greyed out but most are clickable on or off. Just curious how and why is this possible?
